Serious QB discussion

I’ve officially turned from “cut Milton some slack he’s better than the complainers are saying,” to “yea he’s holding us back and he isn’t anywhere near as good as I’d hoped.”

1.) He’s going nowhere for awhile

2.) I think most calling for his benching are blind, ignorant, or belligerent to how nuanced of a decision is.

But I live in Wisconsin and eat beer and drink cheese so what do I know 🍻 🧀
If you're a GB fan, you know the pain of having a great QB then having a....uh.... QB replace him.

It's hard to not expect to see Hooker-esque plays after last year.

Fulmer had no problem doing it with Clausen. Just sayn! Heupel is too damn stubborn to do it. It's painfully obvious that Milton is absolute trash.
We are going to have to recognize that we are a different team from last year we are ground and pound and I better never see Heupel this year not kick a closs field goal Milton is not dat man. On the free play he could have thrown it anywhere and he runs it he still could have got a first down but he runs out of bounds. Where have we seen that before.

I really doubt there is anyone left who thinks Milton is the guy to get us any kind of championship. But, other than the very untimely INT he is a stabilizing force and when he does run can do damage with his legs. I guess my question is do we stick with his game management and just give up on the passing game realizing our WRs are not exactly world class either or do we go ahead and give Nico his chance? My honest opinion, while likely to be unpopular, is not to throw Nico into his first start at Tuscaloosa. Start Milton but have Nico ready if our passing game is as impotent as it was tonight. We could try the two QB thing too.

I would not put Nico in against Bama, but our next supposedly easy win I would start Nico. Imo we are a much better team overall than last year with the exception of qb

We hear the same thing every week:

"This is the week Joe breaks out, WRs break out, 400 yards 4 TDs."

It's not going to happen. You can't bench him now with Alabama next. That's obvious. I think we know what we've got with him though, and it isn't much. He's not going to win us a game, but he can definitely lose one for us or be the reason we don't win.
Really unfortunate when you consider the raw talent. He just can't get out of his own head/way.

If you bench Joe, you can't go back to him.

The question in his head and everyone's head would be: Why did they bench Joe if they believe in him?

I'd love to see Nico get more snaps if we're up big (or down big) but when he did see snaps all I saw here was: When is Nico going to get some snaps with the 1s (the first team guys.)

I think it's too late to get Nico ready for Bama or Kentucky. We could use the UCONN game to get him ready for UGA. QB situation aside, I really want to see the coaches throw out the lineup and have open competition for the starting wide receiver spots. We've seen lots of signs that Webb and Nimrod are hungrier for playing time than Keyton or Thornton. Let them play.

Just taking a 1000 foot view, the situation with Joe really makes me concerned about Heupel's judgement on the QB position. Remember, Milton was the guy Heupel brought into to be the QB way back in 2021. Hooker only got going in the starting spot because Milton got injured. And Hooker was brought in by the previous staff. Setting aside everything else that's happened, that is a big red flag and does not make me think Heupel is going to move away from Milton unless he absolutely has to. Imagine how the last two years would have gone if Hooker had not taken over the starting spot...

I don’t blame Heupel and co for liking Milton. He is so gifted. The size, the arm, the speed. He looks like a NFL 1st rounder. But, we have enough evidence that he just does not get it. If he had half of Hooker’s instincts he would be in the Heisman conversation.

You wouldn't but I would. I do not think it is fair to "throw away" potential victories because some on this board want to see the "backup" QB play.

We have 5 wins - you are saying you would be okay losing to Bama, UGA, UK and Missouri and possibly even Vandy and/or UCONN. Looks like what you really want is a way to be able to say "fire the coach".
Lol. You need to think better. Milton is a 6th year SR who has been in this system for 3 years and he sucks. Sorry but it’s the truth. Don’t give me the 5-1 because a QBs starting record is a BS statistic. Which game have we specifically won that Joe was the main factor in? Remember last year? Bama? LSU? UF? Hooker was the main component.

You probably are one of those fans that think on Tee Martin won us the NC or Clausen beat UF twice on the road. Get out of here. Just like Martin and Clausen we are winning in spite of the QB.

Next year Nico is the starter. Behind him is who? Moore and Merklinger? Nico needs experience. He should have had plenty by now. Fire Heupel? No freakin way. I love Heupel. But I wish he would play Nico. Also, how do you know Nico wouldn’t come in and spark this passing game? He could.

Joe was bad tonite. WRs were bad too. Tennessee is very average at WR right now.
I think we have some good receivers, only 1 drop tonight, the rest of the incompetes were not thrown good. And we are getting receivers open. Joe just can't throw with accuracy.

How about we give Joe 1 or two reads and tell him to tuck and run ? When Joe wants to run he is capable. Saw that tonight. Want to see more. I believe Joe has a confidence issue. He has talent. Make it easy

He’s on pace to having similar stats to Anthony Richardson. Don’t be surprised if teams and coaches with big egos are attracted to his cannon of an arm thinking “we can fix the inaccuracy.”
AR isn't looking that bad for a rookie the few times I've seen him.
That being said NFL does have WR's that go and make plays even on bad passes.
He could go late 5th round. Doesn't really cost you much at that point if you're an NFL team. He really needs to show he's willing to run though

And Nico if things continue as they are will be starting with very little game experience. Nico should have been playing a lot since the second game of the season. It will take him as things are going 4 or 5 games beginning next year to really start going.

That's kind of where I'm at, stop looking for someone to get open, two looks and then go. Don't give him time to sit back there and think
