Shaka Smart=Stan Heath.

You know Tennessee never had any problems with the NCAA until Kiffin and Pearl came.. We need some one like Butlers coach Stephens to clean us up and get us on the right track, instead of being called cheaters..

GO VOLS!!!

So Smart has won 53 games and never finished better than fourth in conference play and we're mentioning him with Donovan and Coach K?
It happens every March. Somebody has one good week and everyone falls over themselves to hire them.

Happens in football, too. Someone pulls an upset or has one good season with some random team, and it's "Imagine what this guy could do with SEC caliber players!"

He could be the next Stan Heath or he could be the next Billy Donovan. Every coach within hiring reach is a risk. Jerry Green had a proven record and look how that turned out. I feel taking a chance is justified.

Why take an unnecessary risk when there are many, many other proven candidates that we could potentially hire? It would be stupid.

small addition

Y'all have definitely rearranged my opinion on this issue. Going to the Sweet 16 = guaranteed future failure. I feel lucky to have received this memo in time.

Let's hire a nameless Tar Heels assistant whose only past head coaching experience was high school golf. Worked one other time for Kansas and it's important we stick to proven methods.

Do you have difficulty reading? No one said anything resembling that.

Bruce Pearl was high risk. High risk = high reward. I don't see Smart as an "unnecessary" risk. Maybe a calculated risk. Any coach you hire will have upside and downside. Smart actually has outschemed opponents this tournament. He didn't just luck into the Sweet 16 and judging by his personality I believe he would be charasmatic and a great recruiter.

He did out scheme the CAA to a fourth place finish.

Settle down, I'm just reacting to the "flavor of the week" pile-on. I don't know if it's your avatar, but I always imagine you're about to blow a gasket.

Haha. I'm calm. We obviously don't share the same opinion about Smart. That's fine. Carry on. :hi:

Agreed. If we learned anything from Pearl, it's that a non-traditional power like Tennessee can benefit greatly from having a charismatic, exciting face on the program. In fact, it might be indispensable.

Bruce Pearl was a significantly more proven coach than Smart is.

I just heard for the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th/7th time that VCU finished 4th in the CAA. They should disband the program.

Yes who cares what place you finish in your conference, I mean he did present himself well at a summer camp and the kids loved him
