Shaka Smart=Stan Heath.

there isn't a nick saban of basketball that's coming to tennessee.

so, there will be risk no matter what happens.

Pearl built a nice reputation for himself that UT benefited from. It will be interesting to see where we go from here. I assume we go back to the "nice little program" under the radar. That's not a terrible thing. Yes, we'd all love to be Sweet 16 caliber regularly, but is it realistic?

Do you find it worthwhile to say stupid stuff on an opponents' board?

not like they beat a #1 seed to get there... didn't they beat a #13 seed to advance?

4th in their conference with their talent is not indicative of great coaching. They might have had good coaching, but their results don't reflect it. Stumbling backwards into a 13 seed and winning 1 good ballgame isn't much to go on.

I dont see this turning out good at all.People might be wishing Pearl back.I was 50/50 on the Pearl situation.A part of me thought it was time to move on and the other part I thought we would wind up with a joke of a coach.

True, true, but you never know when that diamond in the rough is going to be priceless, like say a Coach K. It might be wise to consider an up-n-comer with unknowon sactions pending. You can always kick him to the curb when they are over and hire the coach you really want, that is if the up-n-comer doesn't wow you with his performance.

He also happened to shred three teams in a high-pressure situation recently, which doesn't hurt. I think he has star potential, and even in the situation we're in, I'd rather take someone with huge upside than someone who's been plodding nicely along somewhere and doing three-and-a-half star work.

Is three-and-a-half star work finishing 4th in CAA?

Just to clarify how much of a diamond in the rough Coach K was: 73-59 (and final season 9-17) at Army, then 38-47 first three years at Duke. We would have fired him before it all started falling into place. (Incidentally, when I was complaining about the Dooley hire, THIS is what people should have thrown at me.)

I'm back to: I like what Shaka's team looks like on the court; I believe that with him you'll get good results immediately and great results soon after.

I've missed where you walked through his team, being one of the most talented in the CAA, yet finishing 4th. Doesn't compute.

In the end, he's as 3 happy as any coach in America, including Donovan and K. That can work for a couple of games, but will lose far more than you should win if you're talented. If you have no talent, it's a very good plan.

I'm not sure including K and Donovan in your post illustrates your point too well.

You beat me to it.

If Shaka Smart could bring us what Billy the Kid has brought UF 3 National Championship Games and 2 titles.
Clean with the 'AA. I would be fine with how many 3's the team shot.

Coach K-- enough said.

gold. pure gold.

So Smart has won 53 games and never finished better than fourth in conference play and we're mentioning him with Donovan and Coach K?

He might parlay that into his own VH1 special. You gots to thinkout of the box, man!

To clarify, I in no way am advocating for Smart. I don't think he's ready yet.

I just don't think adding K and Donovan made his point very well.

To clarify, I do hope UT hires Smart but he is probably too 'smart' to take the job.

The problem: everyone who is a great coach was unheard-of first. However, that doesn't mean everyone who is small potatoes will eventually be great.
yeah but obviously Smart is the straw that stirs the drink.
