Shouldn't we be concerned?

Data trumps you again:

Ainge fine as frosh.
Disaster as soph.
Ainge fine as jr.
Ainge fine as snr.

Coaching was fine. Ainge changed.

Ridiculous. Ainge was fine to the point of beating teams we were supposed to kill - part if the time.

Fine isn't competing with Brent Schaeffer for PT. Fine isn't having your field limited to the sidelines for your entire career. I don't know if you've ever QBd or been around any, but the 3 yard slant guys are the ones that can't think.

Exactly. Here's the problem -- Dooley is getting whipped by Saban, Auburn, Richt, and pretty much everyone for targeted recruits. Here's the record so far against those 3 for regional targets:

Dooley vs. Saban
Dooley - 1
Saban - 10

Dooley vs. Chizk
Dooley - 0
Chizk - 8

Dooley v. Richt
Dooley - 1
Richt - 6

This isn't a good start.

Starting to worry now....... THIS is the metric of the 300-mile radius.

Star watchers should take a look at Boise State. They don't play in the best conference, they don't get the highest rated recruiting classes, yet they lay the wood to most of the highly touted programs they play (see Oregon and Oklahoma). Speaking of Oregon, they don't have top ten recruiting classes year in and year out, either.

As far as comparing Dooley to all these other coaches (Saban, Richt, Chizik), its ridiculous. We are a program that has been kicked in the teeth by Kiffin, and churned into complacency by Fullmer. Its going to take at least a year for Dooley and staff to get their lines built into high school pipelines. You can't claim we're in trouble recruiting and load it all onto CDD. Fact is, we have at least seven years of less than UT standard football and some serious coaching debaucles to blame for our current state of affairs.

CDD will be fine. We have a great staff, the best stadium in the NCAA (I *might* be biased here), and the best fans (even if some are negaVols). It will take us a couple of years, and we will be fine.

Uh. Randy Sanders and Fulmer specifically have said Ainge couldn't handle the playbook when they tried to "throw everything at him and see what sticks" in 2005. Shockingly, the same approach again failed definitively in 2008.

And are you seriously that stupid to think that the coaching didn't change from sophomore to junior?

Dooley is recruiting California, Louisiana, Florida, and I think we've gone after an Arizona kid, too. But, then again, I rarely sign off with a self-proclaimed victory, so what do I know?

You must have missed the memo, like most stories or facts you don't like, you pretend just don't exist. It's no secret that Dooley plans on a regional recruiting focus.

And? He's specifically said there was no regional recruiting handicap for him. Gibbs implying that Dooley was ignoring national recruiting is quite clearly incorrect.

Looks like a decent class but will need to be picked up next year in order to continue to play among elite teams, Like it that he's filling roster needs.

Dooley's strategy is clearly not a national recruiting strategy; it's much closer to Saban's than Meyer's or Carroll's or Kelly's or Weis', where the focus is very heavily on regional recruiting rather than national recruiting. We are going to rarely do much in California or the northeast or the upper midwest or the plains or the desert, by intent under Dooley, who doesn't think it worth the risk-time ratio.

Do you think UT can pull recruits nationally right now with the state the program is in?

Dooley said we would pursue guys regardless of where they were from if they demonstrated interest in UT. That way we don't waste resources chasing someone who has little to no interest in UT.

We'll be fine in recruiting though. This is one of the best Oline classes we've had in quite a while. We're raking in talent at DB, some of which will likely be converted to LB. We are in on some premier talent along the Dline. Have Smith at RB who is criminally underrated. The only area of concern for me is DT to this point. This will finish up being a top 15 class baring any major catastrophe and will fill needs better than a lot of higher rated classes of the past.

And? He's reaching outside the 300 mile radius force field. Over a fourth of our players are from outside.

Notre Dame could be winless and they are still going to have a solid national recruiting plan because of all the catholic feeder schools they have across the country....So that eliminates Kelly and Weis (why is he mentioned?)... As for Meyer and Carroll, first, they don't really need to have strong national recruiting (and if you look at their roster, the overwhelming majority come from their home states), but it's much easier to recruit nationally when you win national championships...

It's to early in the season to be worried about recruiting. By the time it's said and done, we'll end up with a top 15 class, maybe even as high as top 10. Just wait and see. Go Vols, and DDwill get it done.

Dooley didn't say never; he said his focus would be on regional recruits when it came to high-targets. His national recruiting has not been on highly-targeted recruits for the most part.

FYI -- Juda Parker isn't a regional recruit, but he isn't exactly being targeted by national competition. His offer list is Wyoming, Hawaii, Weber State & New Mexico State. If that's your definition of "national recruiting," congrats!

I'm referring to a methodology. Meyer & Carroll openly sought after high-profile national recruits; by contrast, Mack Brown & Saban generally focus far more on regional recruits rather than national high profile targets. Doesn't mean Meyer & Carroll ignore regional recruits nor that Brown & Saban ignore national recruits; it just means they prioritize their time and focus on one over the other.

What is new for Tennessee is Dooley moving away from the broad-scale national focus of Majors & Fulmer, and choosing instead to focus more on regional recruiting. Whether it works or not is another matter, but the fact he is doing so is not really in dispute except for those who want to pretend otherwise and ignore Dooley's own statements and national press reports documenting the same.

Look at his higher-profile target lists and where he's sending his coaches; Florida & Texas are about as far as he will spend much time in national recruiting of players getting high-end offers.

Note: I'm not saying it will fail as yet; I am saying it is openly admitted to be much different than before, unless you think Dooley is lying when he himself said it was different and national media reporters are just making it up to annoy the "in-the-know" message board posters as yourself.

I see you've borrow gibbs tried and true method of making stuff up that you can argue against convincingly. I'll now let you go quote the post that says Dooley isn't recruiting regionally or the one that I'm "in the know" on anything relating to Dooley's recruiting strategies.

You ever going to provide the name of Phil's top OC target?

Are you making this up as you go? We've pursued high ranked recruits in CA, TX, MI, and OH. We've pretty much hit all regions of the country where there is interest of connection to our program. Does CDD have to hit all 50 states for you to consider us taking a national approach?

I thought by now someone would have mentioned that we picked up a 4* LB today. One that Kiffin recruited too. What are all the "The sky is falling" people going to say now?
