Shouldn't we be concerned?

I thought by now someone would have mentioned that we picked up a 4* LB today. One that Kiffin recruited too. What are all the "The sky is falling" people going to say now?

They will say things like "AJ Johnson is overrated" and "Kiffin is actually responsible for getting him interested, therefore he should get credit for this pickup" or "Kiffin lost interest and encouraged him to look elsewhere" Blah blah blah yadeh yadeh yadeh.

Ha! It does seem like most of the Chicken Little's were big time Kiffin fans.

Dooley didn't say never; he said his focus would be on regional recruits when it came to high-targets. His national recruiting has not been on highly-targeted recruits for the most part.

FYI -- Juda Parker isn't a regional recruit, but he isn't exactly being targeted by national competition. His offer list is Wyoming, Hawaii, Weber State & New Mexico State. If that's your definition of "national recruiting," congrats!

Up to 26 on Rivals, up from 35 I believe just by adding AJ Johnson. Most of the teams ahead of us have more than 15 commits as well. We'll finish Top 15 easily imo

GO VOLS

Just think if we add Richardson, Clear, Arnett, Dallas (who should be a 4*), & a couple more DT's.

I'm encouraged by the fact that Johnson has decided to re-commit, says a lot about this staff and their ability to show that they have a clear vision of how they are going to rebuild our proud program and are able to convince young men like AJ that Tennessee will be the place to be. I'm very encouraged to see that we are able to close on some of our higher targets and think we'll be in the game for many upper tier prospects all the way until signing day. I'm less concerned about stars as long as we address our needs with high quality players. We'll get there, may take 3 years, but we will get there.

Exactly. Here's the problem -- Dooley is getting whipped by Saban, Auburn, Richt, and pretty much everyone for targeted recruits. Here's the record so far against those 3 for regional targets:

Dooley vs. Saban
Dooley - 1
Saban - 10

Dooley vs. Chizk
Dooley - 0
Chizk - 8

Dooley v. Richt
Dooley - 1
Richt - 6

This isn't a good start.

And? He's specifically said there was no regional recruiting handicap for him. Gibbs implying that Dooley was ignoring national recruiting is quite clearly incorrect.

Apparently there is a big regional handicap for him.

Apparently he is focused (as I said) on the regional recruiting strategy.

Apparently it's Game, Set, and Match again.

gibbs, some of your posts aren't all that bad in all honesty, but you marginalize yourself big time when you start declaring you've won the argument all the time.

If you could, you know, try to focus on what is actually being argued from time to time it would really help you avoid looking like a ****ing idiot.

Are you making this up as you go? We've pursued high ranked recruits in CA, TX, MI, and OH. We've pretty much hit all regions of the country where there is interest of connection to our program. Does CDD have to hit all 50 states for you to consider us taking a national approach?

Wow -- you really didn't read any of the news articles or pay much attention to Dooley's press conferences. Here's an article to help you out.

To help you out, the cliff's notes version is: a) that Dooley's approach to recruiting at UT is a "new approach"; and b) that what is new about it is that prior UT coaches "had more of a national philosophy when it came to recruiting" whereas Dooley will focus on "five hour, 300-mile radius from Knoxville" and only "spot recruit" outside that radius for players already pre-interested in Tennessee.

I am concerned about our lack of top tier talent that we have committed. I know some will scream at me for mentioning it, but with the majority 3* and only a couple of 4*, an no 5*, we will wind up in the bottom third of the conference. And I do not have confidence that some on here have that this will be fixed by 1. Every 3* we have will suddenly magically become 5* 2. The remainder of the recruits we get will all be 4* or 5* players. 3. Dooley's assessment of talent is so far above all other coaches that if he recruits them the all must be the best in the country regardless of the thoughts of other coaches and recruiting services 4. This coaching staff is so far above all others that the are able to take sub par talent and win regardless of the talent opposing them. Just my thoughts. I hope for the best, but I am not so sure. As always, GBO.

Fair to say that we were at least competitive with UF? This is the lowest talent and depth in probably several years. We just have to get some depth to be competitive and show some stability in the coaching staff. I have complete faith right now based on what I've seen.

Nick Saban trusted him, I will do the same. Outside of Harris and Power, pretty sure every other guy has a pretty good offer list.

We will pull some great talent with our remaining spots. Some of the guys we got are underrated and our coaches like them so we have to have some faith.

I heard CDD's press conference I also heard him say we would still pursue players outside that radius.

Jesse Williams
Shaq Thompson
Noah Spence
Danny O'brien
Brendan Bigelow
Hayes
Arnett

Those are just a few that we've offered and pursued.
