I thought we saw quite a bit of progress last year over the previous years regime. We came within a hair of beating GA and Vandy. A couple of calls or plays went different in those two games and we're sitting at 7-5 instead of 5-7. At least we played hard until the end.
Unlike the year before when Dooley threw in the towel against Mizzou with time left. My fist still clinches when I think of that game.
I thought UGA and USCe were good signs. I take absolutely NO comfort in "almost" beating Vandy.
UT was also blown out 4 times for the first time in at least 50 years, fielded its 2nd worst scoring D in program history, and "almost" lost to a 6-6 mid-major.
I have rationalized these negatives with the idea that Jones may have been coaching two different teams last fall. The one focused on the Srs who weren't going to be there long enough for him to develop and full integrate into his system and then one focused on the future. I think it makes sense in light of him RS'ing Maggitt and M Jackson when both could have helped. I think it helps explain who they played on the DL when it now seems obvious that they'd rather play smaller and faster on the DL.
The staff didn't get all they could out of last year's roster. My hope is that they were strategically investing in the future.
