Socialism Fails Everytime ...

I don't see how that works. If we can both survive on the basics but one of us works a little harder, smarter or is just plain luckier and gets more how in the world can anyone in their right mind consider them greedy?
NO ONE EVER SAID THAT WAS GREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you enter the land of the abstract.
If he catches 11 and keeps the extra, I would imagine the other 9 would view that as "NOT GREEDY".

If he catches 15 and keeps the extra 5 while some seem to need more than the one a day, I would imagine the group would find that to be a "little greedy."

If he has a great day and catches 37 and keeps the extra 27, I imagine the group would find him to be "EXTREMLY GREEDY".

But if the group is just sitting back and not contributing to the catch aren't they the real greedy people on the raft?

For those few who can only grasp the concrete..............

A line worker goes up to Henry Ford and says "there's a problem with the steering wheels we are installing today, I'm afraid many will break and lead to accidents."
Ford says "keep quite and go back to work, we can't lose the money, but I'll look into it later"................greedy.
Ford says "keep quite and keep working, I'll look into it now"..........still greedy, but not as much.
Ford says "halt production and lets look into it".......not greedy.
What?

Sure. Anyone not chipping in and doing what they can while expecting someone else to provide for them is the epitome of greed.
It's a horrible thing.
The whole mindset of "get as much as you can, however you can" without regard to others is sick.

I haven't seen you label anyone in particular greedy but you have agreed with Luther on his completely subjective terminology on who is greedy or what defines greed.
I see Luther wrote: Greed Definition: a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed (material goods) Counterpart: Generosity, kindness. I don't see any dictionary definition to the contrary. It's the qualifiers selfish and excessive that are subjective.

The only thing you have posted in this thread that I agree with.

Very much so, hence it's not a good definition.

Greed

Description
Greed is an uncontrolled longing for increase in the acquisition or use of material gain; or social value, such as status, or power. Greed has been identified as undesirable throughout known human history because it creates behavior-conflict between personal and social goals.
Biblical commentator John Ritenbaugh describes greed as a “ruthless self–seeking and an arrogant assumption that others and things exist for one's own benefit.”

Again, I'm not a religious person, but .......................
What Are the Seven Deadly Sins? A Biblical Guide

Many think the deadly seven are recorded in the Bible. Even though each of the seven is a sin, this list is not contained in Scripture. The history of this sin categorization began in the year 400.
Two centuries later, Pope Gregory 1 refined the inventory to seven. Almost every sin can be placed in one of these seven categories. Isaiah 14:13-14 tells us pride and selfishness are related to each of the seven and are viewed as the root causes of all sin.

7. Greed
Definition: a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (such as money) than is needed (material goods)

Counterpart: Generosity, kindness
By the definitions you have posted it is.
These are the definitions I posted.

I grew up in south central Kentucky. I would bet that easily half my high school class were tobacco farmer families. I remember cutting for $10/hour cash back in the 70s. GREAT money back then. I went back 30 years later and they had teams of Mexicans cutting and they were still paying $10/hour. I was back there about 10 years ago and I was surprised that there wasn't a tobacco patch to be seen. Now they are growing government subsidized FrankenWheat.
$10 an hour was indeed big bucks. I got $2 an hour for cutting and hanging burley mid-70's.

Back to socialism..Government is the biggest greedy takers of all. Their greed is causing massive hardships for families with their inflationary greed.
Altruistic kind hearted governement

Government Greed

You’re confusing stupid and greed. The greedy answer is “I’ll fix the problem, so I can continue selling cars in the future, because I desire more”

Actually I posted that first. That definition is one that we all meet. It’s one that everyone you buy from also meets. Your car was built by an excessive desire for more, your house was built by the same, the groceries you bought were there for the same reason.

On which part of that could you possibly disagree.

So can we mark you down as being against the .gov paying off student loans?

Sorry for the misattribution. I have no reason to believe my car or groceries were produced further to an excessive and / or selfish desire for more. There was surely desire for a profit but there's nothing to indicate the desire was excessive, nor is there indication it was selfish.

Greed is, I guess for this discussion, wanting more than one's 'fair share'. Capitalism is just private ownership of means of production. Greed is not the central column nor the root of capitalism, private property is. Greed as a human trait existed long before economic systems came into being. As an aside, if you want a system that really encouraged greed, look at mercantilism. Capitalism does run on profits, but I think we all agree that a aiming for fair profit is not greed (sure there's debate about what is fair).

You got your opinion, I have my opinion. May we not pine that this is so.
