Yes, when I label someone as greedy then I have to have a reason.
If you can't deal with nuance and the abstract than you look like an imbecile.
It's of course subjective, What may be normal for me may be greed for you and vice versa.
For those few who can only grasp the concrete..............
A line worker goes up to Henry Ford and says "there's a problem with the steering wheels we are installing today, I'm afraid many will break and lead to accidents."
Ford says "keep quite and go back to work, we can't lose the money, but I'll look into it later"................greedy.
Ford says "keep quite and keep working, I'll look into it now"..........still greedy, but not as much.
Ford says "halt production and lets look into it".......not greedy.
I stated MULTIPLE times yesterday that EVERYONE is on the continuum. Are you willing to admit most businesses and/or people are greedy?
If so then you have to accept that your privileged life is a result of the greed of others. Very few innovations are made with the desire to break even, or just meet your own needs.
I grew up in south central Kentucky. I would bet that easily half my high school class were tobacco farmer families. I remember cutting for $10/hour cash back in the 70s. GREAT money back then. I went back 30 years later and they had teams of Mexicans cutting and they were still paying $10/hour. I was back there about 10 years ago and I was surprised that there wasn't a tobacco patch to be seen. Now they are growing government subsidized FrankenWheat.Tobacco use is a choice. Just like eating foods with hydrogenated oils or high fructose corn syrup. Both bring pleasure to the consumer. Tobacco farmers have nothing to be ashamed of imo.
Glad to see you enter the land of the abstract.Let's revisit Luther's 10 people in a life raft scenario.
Out of the 10 people 1 can fish, really good at it. He can usually catch 12-13 fish per day while others that tried it only get 1 or 2, is that guy greedy if he demands that he gets any fish over 10 he catches?
And for Luther: yes all the fish are the same size species and everyone is eating them raw, nobody has a knife.
The only thing I could personally think of would be an equal percentage of one's income for taxation. Take all your income... from ALL sources.. multiply by... say 10%.. and send that amount in. I don't care if you make $12,000/year or $12 million. Everybody needs to have skin in the game.I despise the term "fair share". Can you define what that is and if you can you will be the first on this board.
define 'need'.Glad to see you enter the land of the abstract.
If he catches 11 and keeps the extra, I would imagine the other 9 would view that as "NOT GREEDY".
If he catches 15 and keeps the extra 5 while some seem to need more than the one a day, I would imagine the group would find that to be a "little greedy."
If he has a great day and catches 37 and keeps the extra 27, I imagine the group would find him to be "EXTREMLY GREEDY".
I stated MULTIPLE times yesterday that EVERYONE is on the continuum.
It's just like lying. Everybody does it - so that can't be the point.
The point then has to be: how often, what types, for what reasons, are they trying to lie less, do they even recognize that it is bad.
Continuums...........grey areas...........subjectivity.
