Socialism vs Capitalism

Are there people that actually believe the result of increased minimum wage will be companies eating the losses?

"Under the bill, most of California's fast-food workers will be paid at least $20 per hour next year. And a separate bill will increase healthcare workers' salaries to at least $25 per hour over the next 10 years.

Chains such as Chipotle and McDonald's said they planned to raise menu prices as a way to offset the costs of higher wages in California.

The law affects 557,000 fast-food workers at 30,000 restaurants in California."

I imagine they both already have an automation plan ready to go to eliminate jobs.

How has socialism bankrupted us when we’re not socialist?
Obamacare and medicare....socialized healthcare
social security....socialized retirement
food stamps...socialized food program
housing...public education....minimun wage....

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The United States spends approximately $2.3 trillion on federal and state social programs include cash assistance, health insurance, food assistance, housing subsidies, energy and utilities subsidies, and education and childcare assistance. Similar benefits are sometimes provided by the private sector either through policy mandates or on a voluntary basis. Employer sponsored health insurance is an example of this."

It's not captialism that spends a country 34 trillion into debt with nothing to show for it. Dems have the US taxpayers in the biggest debt trap in the history of the world paying about a trillion dollars each year (and growing) just to pay the interest stealing ungodly amount of wealth away from the taxpayers,

A favorite restaurant closed recently for they could not find workers. A restaurant I ate at last night have cut their operating hours a lot due to inability in finding enough help. No one wants to work but just sit and draw a gov't check.

So you mean the welfare state. Yes, screw the poor; let them starve or die from untreated disease. We can get rid of libraries and public roads and parks while we’re at it.

Not all gov't spending (building roads) is socialism. True compassion is getting everyone a job so they can take care of themselves not by filling up welfare rolls.

You got the roads part right. I agree that gainful employment is the ideal, and we should push harder for that instead of handouts. But a lot of folks who can’t hold jobs still have bills to pay.

It's been the Dems plan for decades to entrap as many people on gov't welfare to buy their votes..and it's worked

why can't people hold jobs and should taxpayers be penalized for their inability to hold down a job?

Age and infirmity are two reasons. There are others.

people save their own money for their retirement and can buy disability insurance to protect if they become infirmed. Study after study has shown people are better off saving for their own retirement.

I for one am sick and tired of seeing disability plates on expensive luxury cars while others are busting their rear-ends off working hard jobs just to afford a good used car and have taxes taken from them so others can live the life of Riley.

actually government funded roads are socialism. just because they are a net positive doesn't mean its not socialism. Except for issuing permits/licenses I am not really sure what any government does that isn't socialism.

Until post WW2 there were very very few public roads or means of transportation, rail or water. and the few that were were tolls that paid off the work. you can thank Eisenhower for that particular bit of socialism growing into the monster it is today.

Is it a bigger kindness to try and lessen the disease, or to try and lessen the chance of getting the disease?

Is trying to lessen the effects of the disease really a kindness if by doing so you increase their chances of getting said disease?

Is it a kindness if that while you are trying to lessen the effects of the disease you remove or inhibit the individuals controls on various other aspects of their life, and negatively effect other 3rd parties?

none of the items you listed afterwards would qualify as "welfare state".

the failure of our welfare and welfare in general is it is centered on giving man a fish instead of teaching the man to fish and getting him started.

33% of our population receive some for of welfare. we are far far beyond the "others".

And no one asks, and how many of those people are on welfare because they were priced out of private options due to the costs of providing welfare. we saw it with Obamacare. more Americans were priced out of private insurance and had to get on the Obamacare, than had no insurance and got on Obamacare. that type of "welfare" is definitely a net negative.

Yep. This is exactly why all this talk about blacks turning to the right is a bunch of crap.

I would disagree. Building roads is a basic function of government. All those who drive on the roads pay taxes/fees for the building and maintanence of those roads. Roads do not take wealth away from one who does not benefit and give to another that does benefit...roads benefit all who pay the taxes. Even though users pay taxes to build the roads all use, each user must buy their own vehicle. Socialism is taxing one person's money away so another person can have a vehicle for nothing.

Roads are just one of many public resources that require users to pay for their use.

Roads would be something along the lines of a cooperative. Most individuals do not have the money to build their own personal roads, so all individuals cooperate in paying taxes where there can be roads to benefit all. Likewise it would not be financially feasable for everyone to build a power plant in their back yard for electricity. So all individuals cooperate and build one large power plant where individuals can tap into it and pay for what you use...use a lot, pay a lot....use a little, pay a little which is fair and no one is harmed finacially by another person. Socialism is forcibly taking money from one person hurting that person finacially and taking away their freedom in handling their own money they earned to pay for other people's utility bill who benefit from another person's financial loss.

I believe when the founding fathers wrote "provide for the general welfare" they meant building roads, bridges, libraries for all to use and not the focible taking of money from one person to suffer financial loss for the personal gain of another.
