Socialism vs Capitalism

I would disagree. Building roads is a basic function of government. All those who drive on the roads pay taxes/fees for the building and maintanence of those roads. Roads do not take wealth away from one who does not benefit and give to another that does benefit...roads benefit all who pay the taxes. Even though users pay taxes to build the roads all use, each user must buy their own vehicle. Socialism is taxing one person's money away so another person can have a vehicle for nothing.

Roads are just one of many public resources that require users to pay for their use.

Roads would be something along the lines of a cooperative. Most individuals do not have the money to build their own personal roads, so all individuals cooperate in paying taxes where there can be roads to benefit all. Likewise it would not be financially feasable for everyone to build a power plant in their back yard for electricity. So all individuals cooperate and build one large power plant where individuals can tap into it and pay for what you use...use a lot, pay a lot....use a little, pay a little which is fair and no one is harmed finacially by another person. Socialism is forcibly taking money from one person hurting that person finacially and taking away their freedom in handling their own money they earned to pay for other people's utility bill who benefit from another person's financial loss.

I believe when the founding fathers wrote "provide for the general welfare" they meant building roads, bridges, libraries for all to use and not the focible taking of money from one person to suffer financial loss for the personal gain of another.
So you mean the welfare state. Yes, screw the poor; let them starve or die from untreated disease. We can get rid of libraries and public roads and parks while we’re at it.

There’s an epidemic of fatties in this country and nobody is starving and the only people dying from untreated disease are the addicts.

Well the actual founding fathers did very little of those things, so I am pretty sure they would disagree with you.

the roads wouldn't be by individuals they would be by company's who would then operate via tolls and that way ONLY the ones using it pay for it. There are examples of that still today, and typically I have found they are typically better functionally than the "free roads". My taxes are paying for remote stretches of interstates where there are relatively few drivers, roads that I will likely never drive on. it is wealth distribution. Does someone who pays a million dollars in taxes driving 2 miles down West Paces Ferry to his office in Buckhead really using the "same" amount of road as the guy making 30 bucks an hour driving an hour down the interstate to get to work.

again, the agree-able-ness of the matter doesn't dictate if its socialist or not. and just because you can't imagine another system doesn't mean its not socialist.

people save their own money for their retirement and can buy disability insurance to protect if they become infirmed. Study after study has shown people are better off saving for their own retirement.

I for one am sick and tired of seeing disability plates on expensive luxury cars while others are busting their rear-ends off working hard jobs just to afford a good used car and have taxes taken from them so others can live the life of Riley.
What is wrong with disability plates on luxury cars? You don’t get a free car with the plate.

I do not see where you proved that the gov't building roads is socialism.

Yea you are wrong.
Well, in all fairness, sometimes they do, and some people get ‘mailbox checks’, and some people get crazy checks, but some people for whatever reason do not qualify with certain handicaps.. having worked with it firsthand, some of it seems quite arbitrary and random TBH

His faux outrage over people with nice cars, who have handicap plates, is one of the dumbest things I've seen posted here.

Well, it’s kind of human nature.. I got pissed that Boar’s Head cheese at Publix had WIC stickers on it, I mean it’s $6.00 cheese 😂 that is not cost effective lol, but I went on about my day lol.. human nature

I suspect MOST vehicles with disability plates receive disability checks.
Wouldn't make sense. To get disability payments you have to be able to show you can't work for 12 months. My dad was in a wheel chair for several years before his passing bc of a stroke. Kept working. My second mom had polio and was fully handicapped. Worked as an office secretary until her retirement. What about those in the military who were hurt? Stop being a judgmental prick. Your ****** car is a you problem

There are those who get disability checks whose mobility is fine. As one such person whom I know about who has not worked at a job in 2-3 decades and gets disability checks and drives one of the nicest trucks taxpayer money can buy that pulls one of the nicest trailers and fishing boats taxpayer money can buy. It's the dream of many to one day build a house but they cannot afford to do so. I know of a person who gets about 40k a year in disability checks who has built as many as 2 maybe three new houses. Lives in one a some years, sells and builds another. I've seen him mowing his yard, cleaning out gutters, etc. So do not feed me this garbage that I am not paying for others peoples cars, houses, boats, vacations, etc.

As Ladyvolette pointed out, there are millions getting 'crazy checks' and 'mail box' checks. I know of those who get a 'crazy check' and are working a full time job.

So snitch him out. You’re part of the problem if you don’t.
By the way, what kind of disability payments would give him that kind of budget? It sounds fishy.

In Alabama I rented a duplex..neat clean little complex with 4 units on owner land..and only 450 month.
Nice land to look at, but trailer across the street with a family fat guy in a wheelchair..lived there years and oneday look out window and he is walking around. Always wondered if he has a real disability or was just fat and lazy. Prob combo.

Obesity is obsene these days.

uh, they are using tax payer money to build them. not everyone, or really anyone, will drive on EVERY road that their taxes pay for. you can't convince that the 6 million people driving in Atlanta taxes only pays for Atlanta roads. they are also paying for ALL the roads outside of Atlanta in Georgia, where there are far fewer people, but the interstates are no less expensive.

they are taking money from the richer areas and using it to pay for services in poorer areas. that is socialism. even if you agree with it.

I have a SIL who get a disability check from the militray for a knee injury...she get 2700 a month...and works full time...runs everyday and has no knee issues....does it piss me off as a person who actually needs a disability check?? Yes..but that's her issue..she gets fraud charge it's not my problem...issue is that too many I'm government are happy to keep allowing this scam as it allow more of the population to rely on big government to live.

I've got 2 guys working for me that get military disability, don't know what they are getting disability for but neither seem to be disabled. The way they explained it to me is everyone getting out of the military these days ends up with a disability, they find something you qualify for.

One of my coworkers got 10% disability when he left the Air Force. Said he could have asked for more but would have felt like a pos because much of the disability claims are bs. Tell them you can't sleep. Have headaches. Ringing ears. Pain in back or joints ect.

A previous co-worker of mine had 100% disability from the Air Force I think it was. Said it was something with his back. Maybe he was hurting. But physically he moved fine and didn't show it if he was hurting. 3rd co-worker of mine....I don't know if he has any military disability but he should. He was a helicopter mechanic in the army I think and his back is trashed. He's tried everything but back surgery, but you can tell when he's hurting. Disc problems.

I have friends who stayed in and retired and I'm pretty sure all of them have a pretty high disability rating but of course you aren't doing 20+ years in the infantry and/or special forces and not have your body wrecked. The guys that work for me were only in 4 and were surveyors.
