Something that caught my eye....

Yeah, and getting the worst players if you are in C-USA is somehow better than the worst players that come into the SEC??

They've lost to two of college football's 5 worst programs the past two years. I'm not sure how much lower they'd drop.

Wake Forest and Northwestern have done relatively well without the lure of the nation's best conference.

I don't have to act any way. You mocked everyone for acting like they know better than Dooley when you didn't even know what Dooley was saying.

Once again, if you don't think when we spin things negatively that it effects these kids, then you are wrong. It happens, and it happens on a wider scale than any of us will ever know, IMO. The coaches can't just come out and let us know every little instance it happens, or we would all probably think completely differently than we do now.

I think our football program is headed straight down the crapper. Why should I pretend otherwise?
What you think does not make you right or wrong. It is an opinion. Pretending has nothing to do with expressing an opinion.

Three head coaches in 3 seasons has put this program in a rebuilding mode. If I am a kid who thinks I can play at the SEC level, Tennessee, with its facilities, history, and the support of many of its fans, would be a place that I would be very interested in checking out.

Reading and listening to negative 'opinons' from folks about a coach who has yet to coach his first game at the school serves what purpose? :hi:

SGMVols bashes the coaches, he boos the team when recruits are in the stadium, he belittles the players. What a smart guy he is. He probably beats his dog and sprays water on his cat. The sky is always falling. He reminds me of the old HeeHaw song: "Gloom, despair and agony on me. Deep dark depression pain and misery. If it warn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all......."

This doesn't even have anything to do with Dooley though, this is an overall attitude that effects the program and the people around it. If anyone else were here, most of these responses would be different, and there would be people who aren't ready to go into battle with Dooley, that would walk through fire with their wanted coach.

Taking it.

Way.

Way.

Way.

Too serious.

Why does it seem that VN has this same conversation everyday? It just goes in circles. While it does pass the time, it would seen to get old after the first couple times....

I don't necessarily think a recruit would be turned off by fans bashing the coach. This happens in too many places. They would have a hard time choosing most any D1 school outside of Florida or Alabama where the fans love the coaches. (although, come to think of it, they do get the best recruits.) But, what really does bother me is seeing the bashing of prospects during recruiting season. If I was considering signing with a school, and saw the fans saying I sucked before I ever stepped on campus, you can bet your last dollar I would weigh my other options.

Great. Change the original post to say this rather than silliness that is currently in place there.

It has everything to do with Dooley. We wouldn't be hearing any of this if we didn't hire "some guy with a losing record in the WAC" that's gonna "take the program down the crapper".

Who gives a rat's furry rectum if whiney fans don't like the hire or not? They should have known that UT was NOT an attractive gig when Kiffin abandoned the Vols less than 3 weeks from NSD. Quit moaning and groaning daily... ad nauseum.

Just be a fan and stop spinning everything negative and way out of proportion. Knowing the history of many here... I'm asking the impossible.

Yeah... and your hero constantly suggested about the roster being the reason he couldn't win... a roster that produced 6 NFL draftees... you can be sure that there won't be that many one year from now.

If you don't believe depth was an issue, you're an idiot.

I should have known you, Captain Businessman, would have been in "if you're a fan, you can't be negative" camp.

I don't see how I was extremely negative in asking DD to win. Nevermind that Osama Bin Laden has made more public appearances in the past few months as DD. And when he does speak, it's to b**** and moan about negativity.

That sounds so familiar to the piece of garbage that ran this program into the ground in the last decade.

The negativity from trolls on this site is ridiculous i thought this was VOLnation not TROLLnation what is going on is everyone going to just bash a guy before he gets the chance i mean if he's no good let him coach a game at least before deciding that and if you mention his day at LA Tech he turned that program into something up and coming and very special and by doing 2 jobs AD and coach i say give him a chance and if you dont have anything nice to say then shut up its not just you that looks bad while youre talking like this about your supposed team its also how you make our fanbase look. I for one am very disappointed in all the stupidity ive read on these boards i say shut up and lets see what happens!

What's worse then... The one who calls it the way it is, or the one who takes the "wait-n-see" approach then acts surprised when the results are fecal?

Oh yeah, bashing coaches, players and prospects certainly helps recruiting and performance. It's what they all want to see. If I were a recruit, I couldn't wait to get to a place where I am criticized, booed and get death threats. Oh yeah!!!!!! Gimme some of that!!!!!!

If somebody takes a wait and see approach, wouldn't that mean that they are not sure how it's gonna go? Why would they be surprised by a bad season?

There are places recruits can go where coaches never get criticized. The problem is that they all play in D-2 or lower.

Why should they? He only had a losing career in a joke of a conference.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see a whole lot of bashing players or recruits.

CatsPause is maybe the most vitriolic message board on the Internet, but I don't see John Calipari's recruiting suffering because of it.
The only negativity by the one sport blueblood crowd is directed at anybody who says anything negative about the cheatingest college basketball program in history. Calcheat and UK is a match made in NCAA prison. :hi:

I think there's a line between Disney-injected fairytale where the underdog team overcomes all adversity and marches into championship triumph and Dooley's going to go 0-24 in the next two years and get fired.

These recruits we're chasing may not understand everything we argue about, but they do understand that we're a program facing an uphill challenge. We're going to get prospects who like that, or who playing time is important to. It's going to be up to Dooley to coach those guys up, and if he can't do it we're going to be sinking in the quicksand rather than treading it like we've been doing.

There's just no point trying to call the fanbase to arms and expect the whole cavalry to line up in a big group hug. In the end, we all love UT football but there's always going to be pessimists, brainwashed optimists, and Switzerlands in between.

I'm flying my Swiss flag high right now.
