Sure you were. Go back twenty five and we’re still better than Iowa State. You’re like Kentucky fans who extrapolate two wins out of four seasons as something significant…discounting the previous FORTY. Your program played us two out of three seasons in our worst era playing in the premier conference in college football and then YOU have to go back to the 50’s for scoreboard material. We KNOW what’s not good…your background static means nothing.I don’t really care about the depression era. The last 25 years I looked over. Was shocked
Tennessee is trending back on track. You’ve had a rough sled of head coaches but Heupel has done an excellent job. He’s rebuilt your roster and the important thing is that you have a QB. But all this nonsense that OU is going to struggle in the SEC is silly. Our program is on solid footing. We know we aren’t going to dominate the SEC like the Big 12. I mean we won 14 and Texas second with 4. Our roster isn’t there either. But we aren’t some pushover either. Us thinking we are coming here as UGA or Bama threats is getting way ahead of things but you thinking we are coming in at 7-5 is as well.Sure you were. 7-5...if you're LUCKY! One of those 5 WILL BE on September 21st.Tennessee is trending back on track. You’ve had a rough sled of head coaches but Heupel has done an excellent job. That’s not my argument (or care). Reality happens with or without consensus. This is the toughest competition your program has ever signed up for. How your fortunes progress is an unknown quantity.Tennessee is trending back on track. You’ve had a rough sled of head coaches but Heupel has done an excellent job. ohh look the Oklahoma troll started drinking again lol.FIFY Tenn doesn’t focus on the past because we are always 7-5. LMAO no wonder you guys so starved for us to join you at 7-5. No conference titles in the last 25 years. You remind me of Iowa State in the Big 12.
I’ll respond but only speak for myself, no other vol fan.Just getting caught up on this thread. There's a lot of takes that I find interesting.
For discussion, here's a few meaningful areas where our fanbases appear to differ:
1) Sooners feel that highly touted OL players under an elite OL coach should produce very favorable results during this season (and quite possibly by the Tennessee game) even if most of the 2-deep have not played together. (Several OU OL players which should be big contributors during 2024 are either from the transfer portal or are re-shirt freshman.) Vols appear to think that the SEC line of scrimmage play is much different than Oklahoma has experienced and anticipate that our schedule will result in over 5 losses given the fact that these players haven't played together.
2) If you divvy the 16 SEC teams into 4/8/4 (4 Elite teams, plus 8 Mid-Tier teams, plus 4 Lower-Tier teams) Sooners feel like they will start Mid-Tier and make an Elite Tier appearance within 3 or 4 years. Vols feel that Oklahoma is over-rated due to inferior competition, and that OU will need to go through a long adjustment period. That is, OU will not sniff SEC Elite Tier (which I'm defining as the SEC's top 4 teams) in the next 3 years.
3) And here's the biggest one in my opinion. While the SEC's Elite has clearly been the best in CFB over the last 15 years, any advantage held by the SEC's mid-tier and lower-tier teams over mid-tier/lower-tier teams from other conferences during the last 15 years has been overblown. Moreover, Sooners feel like they will start in the top half of the SEC based on resumes built over the last 10 years; Vols predict that Sooners will start in the lower half of the SEC. [Related to this: Sooners feel that ESPN covers the SEC in such a way that exaggerates the SEC's strength relative to other conferences; this bolstering effect is seen in the mid-tier and lower-tier -- the SEC's elite tier has certainly earned the praise they've received.]
I'm sure that some Vols would disagree with my characterization of their thinking as represented in the above 3 points. Further, I'm sure that some Sooners disagree with the above 3 points.
I’ve said it’s tougher constantly. But here goes…If you don’t think the sec is more difficult I can’t help you.
In 2023 OU faced 3 teams in the top 50 talent composite-tx, tcu, and wv. Weat Virginia was ranked 50th, and all sec teams with the exception of Vandy had more talent than WV.
In 2024 OU will face 8 teams in the top 25 of the talent composite. Four of these games are on the road, and two of those opponents are coming off of a buy, and lsu gets vandy before. You get UT and Bama in norman.
I suggest running to the sports store and picking up a cup.
I reserve the following statement for extreme cases: you’re retarded.I’ve said it’s tougher constantly. But here goes…
The big bad wolf (SEC) came to the house made of bricks and said, “Hey, little pig, let me in.”
“No, no, not by the hair on my chinny chin chin,” replied the pig. (OU)
“Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house in,” said the wolf.
So the wolf huffed and he puffed and he huffed and he puffed and he huffed and he puffed, but he couldn’t blow the door down. He soon realized he couldn’t open the door by huffing and puffing.
Then, of course, the wolf became angry and decided that he would come after the pigs through the chimney.
But the three little pigs knew what he was planning to do and they had hung a water kettle over the fire. And just as the wolf came down the chimney, he took the lid off the kettle. The hot steam reached the big bad wolf and with a big howl the wolf shot up!
“Ouch, ouch, ouch! Oh you pigs! I will get you some day!” and the wolf ran away as fast as he could.
And after that? The big bad wolf never came back again, he was too scared of the three smart little pigs.
And the pigs? They lived happily ever after, together in the house made of bricks.
We gonna be just fine.I’ll respond but only speak for myself, no other vol fan.
1.) my feeling was based on your spring practice reports and some fall reports. I know you’re talented in paper. But I do think your OL will be be better later in the season.
2.) I think Oklahoma is a top 8 program in the sec. I’m not sold on venables. I think with a decent line y’all will have a 8-4 season. I think 9-3 is about your ceiling. The odds are against you making the playoffs. Y’all could be top four at some point in the next 3 years, but I doubt it because I don’t believe in your coach. Oklahoma has heavy weight potential.
3.) y’all are top half and almost all of us believe so. We just don’t think you’re top 4, and I think we are.
you may feel that way about espn. But the second best big12 team produced as many draft picks as the 10th best SEC team. Lol. They just cover the best players and teams. That’s concentrated in the Southeast.
Our OL coach turned down Alabama for 1.5 million in January. You gotta get a new scriptThey’ve been playing big boy ball for a while and y’all haven’t. Things change. For example, your #1 OL coach might just be middle of the pack here.
I imagine it’s strange going from conference royalty to being just another team.
Gearing up for your super bowl is different than playing a good team damn near every week. Teams like Mississippi state, South Carolina, and Kentucky would compete well against either kansas school lolWe gonna be just fine.
Oklahoma football's record vs. SEC teams all-time
The most important and consequential move in the recent wave of college football conference realignment will find the Oklahoma Sooners heading to the SEC, unitiwww.si.com
Any time someone says not even debatable, it’s almost assuredly debatable. OU has had a lot of offensive lineman in the league the past decade but I could argue the conference style of play and level of competition played a role there in attracting them and creating visibility. How about head to head? Last 50 years… Tenn vs Big 12 in bowl games? 1-3 How about vs OU? 1-3.
I visited and toured Neyland circa 2009. There had been a renovation on one side. Got to go down to dressing room and like the middle of the end zone entrance. The venue with the river is special. Knoxville is probably the best college town in the SEC.
Should be a good game and evenly matched come Sept. We were all shocked when Bob Stoops fired Josh and to this day the only OC he ever fired. Josh expected to replace Bob. I thought it was unwarranted. Bob never fired coaches. I expect Josh to have extra motivation to beat OU. It’s going to be a lot tougher game than OU fans think. They don’t fear Tenn much because of your poor success against us.
As others have mentioned we’ve got some unknowns. We have an entire OL to replace and inexperienced QB not a great recipe. Luckily we have the best OL coach in CF. Not even debatable. The SEC will be much tougher than the Big 12. ESPN has you #14 & OU #17. AP Tenn #15 OU#16. Right now we are favored only because we are home.
You need to spend less time watching “Days of Our Lives” and more college football. Our record speaks for itself.Gearing up for your super bowl is different than playing a good team damn near every week. Teams like Mississippi state, South Carolina, and Kentucky would compete well against either kansas school lol
You’d better head to Vegas
Well the NFL doesn’t mess around. Anton Harrison was a rookie tackle starter for the Jags last year and Tyler Guyton will start at LT for Dallas as a rookie this year. It’s because of their coach. He has them NFL ready.Any time someone says not even debatable, it’s almost assuredly debatable. OU has had a lot of offensive lineman in the league the past decade but I could argue the conference style of play and level of competition played a role there in attracting them and creating visibility.
This year will be a big test to that statement. Care to make a friendly wager as to OUs success in running the football and protecting the qb?

From "DunkelIndex"
The Oklahoma Sooners have an over/under of 7.5 wins set for the upcoming 2024 college football season after they won 10 games last season (10-3) but lost in the Alamo Bowl. They are -122 to hit the over and -102 to go under their win total in 2024.
