the state is not really the issue. I have yet to see someone pushing an amendment like this without mentioning God/Bible/etc. Heck, CA probably has as many Christians as any other state in the US

Sorry you think I'm a douche. I have never called you a name, at least that I can recall:). I am a very sarcastic person by nature. That's just how I am. Name calling, ie "douche", is not my style (unless I am being sarcastic about what someone else says and use their word against them- see negavol). It's a cop out. Glad to let you know that I am a well-adjusted very happy MAN (you called me "kid" when you were making fun of my "pirate" avy which is actually incorrect. It's a logo for a saltwater fishing tackle company whose equipment I make use of often.) of 40 years of age (I wasn't kidding when I said "I'm a man! I'm 40!") with 2 beautiful, very intelligent, well-behaved, and immensely sweet daughters and an amazing wife of 17 years (1st and ONLY marriage. We took the vows seriously). I don't whine and cry over a less than ideal health situation. I still work every day (I could take legit disability) and feel the fact that I do still work is a good example for others to not quit no matter the situation. I have a great deal of compassion and help others readily even if it's not convenient or beneficial to me.

I have no issues with people attacking my positions. This is a message board designed for the exchange of ideas. I even have no problems with people attacking me. I am a big boy. I can take it. If one is easily offended, best not participate in a mostly open forum. I am kind of torn by the revelation that I am your least favorite poster. On one hand, I wish that you wouldn't take things (particularly my sarcasm) so personal. On the other hand, I am absolutely stoked that I am #1 in something (even though I'm pretty sure there is at least one person in the vastness of the universe with a higher degree of anal discomfort than me). (See, that's sarcasm right there.) Again, let me reiterate. This is a message board designed for the exchange of ideas. Not all those ideas will coincide with yours or mine. Have fun with that; I sure do. Don't take everything personally and get all butthurt over it.....:whistling:

Good morals are human nature. We don't need religious texts to tell us murder, theft, perjury etc is wrong. No religious justification is needed to make the morality argument here.

However, we do need religious texts to tell us things like blasphemy, homosexuality, sabbath, and a host of other make believe crimes actually matter when they really don't. I could use the lords name in vain every day of my life and never hurt another human being. The only definition by which I am being immoral by doing so...or homosexuality matters is because of religious texts.

More than half the states see things the way I do. None of these are 100 year old standards either. All these have been passed in the last 10 years.

just can't say it's completely disconnected that the US economy is tanking while our elected leaders continue to focus on gay marriage and abortion. Of course NC sent Shuler to congress so I'm not really surprised

Oh, and to be honest, I am a Christian as well. I just subscribe more to the notion that I am flawed and have enough difficulty in taking care of myself to worry too much about others. I also feel that the best way to win others to Christ is to show the love and compassion that Jesus showed to the most vile of sinners. Passing laws, in a sense demonizing, a group is no way to get them to come around to your way of seeing things. I know it may not be an attack on gays, per se in your eyes. But, I assure you, it's seen as an attack by them. Not too many would be willing to listen to the message of Jesus which is peace, love for one another, and forgiveness if they feel like they are witnessing hate, perceived or real. Last night in church the lesson was about not even having the perception of evil- not just don't do evil- because it may be a stumbling block for others. Trying to disenfranchise a group in favor of 'defending' something else is seen as hate in the eyes of many. The perception of hate, which is evil, is a stumbling block for these individuals. There's no way these folks would be open to listening to the position of those that want gay marriage outlawed. As a result, they will see what should be a message of love as a message of hate and condemnation.

I lived in CA for 30+ years. Anyone asserting that CA is not absolutely chock full of bible thumpers don't know shat about it. As someone else pointed out, the Catholic community is huge. The Talibani wing of the Christian sect is very vocal there, just as they are in NC and TN.

Religious activists who want their particular interpretation of their religion to be the law of the land and force everyone to adhere to their sect's moral and religious views, under penalty of law, are very vocal in CA, NC, and TN.
