Spurrier takes another shot at vols

Spurrier is talking out of his arse. When Bama was going through the Dubose and Shula years, getting beat by UT something like 8 of 10 years all the bammers were underground. Rivalries are usually cyclical. Saban will move on and some other teams will rise up.

Spurrier is a great coach but for all the talk about how great Carolina is.....one division championship while he has been there and then got his rear handed to him by Auburn. UT has been down for six years or so and he has still managed to lose to us a couple of times. His biggest accomplishment there has been his run on Clemson.

Spurrier grew up a fan and would've been a Vol had he fit the system. His knock represents USC's interests (they have an OOC rival in Clemson and schedule wise the permanent rivalries do nothing for them). He's also logically correct that the TSIO doesn't do anything for us right now (we hang onto it because of our fandom and the history - we know the series will turn but it's not like playing Bama helps UT right now).

He's also no worse than any other negavol or much of our fanbase (can't tell you how many jokes about UT not being able to be x high school I've heard from Tennessee fans in real life) - his favorite target is UT and I doubt that will change because he grew up a fan and truth be told still has a soft spot for us despite being 'the enemy.'

You can take the boy outta the hills but you can't take the hillbilly out of the boy. Personally, I find him funny and never mean-spirited with his jabs (he's always been as hard on his own teams).

Graham is that you?

I think the Ol" Ball Coach is breaking out his "Vol shtick" because things are starting to turn UT's way, finally.

I don't remember Spurrier saying too much about UT while Dooley was running the show, around here. I think it was because, frankly, he knew that he could always out-recruit and out-coach Dooley...and our facilities, tradition & fan base couldn't overcome the disparity.

Now... the Vols, even during this rebuilding stage, are a much different animal for Spurrier to deal with. Spurrier can see himself retiring in 3 to 5 years, and leaving South Carolina right back in the same shape they were in when he took the job. (Scrapping to win 6 games & hoping for a Music City Bowl trip...)

The ole ball coach needs to find his ole bottle of prune juice.

He will feel better after a good purging

Tennessee fan or not, I still love to hear what he has to say, one of the few coaches that will actually speak his mind and not hide behind the coach speak!! That guy cracks me up! There happens to be a bit of truth to what he is saying also, Alabama every year is a very tough rivalry for us right now but I would never give it up bec as bad as it feels to lose to them, its that much sweeter when you win one or two!! That time is conning too imho!

Well the "Ole Ball Sac" is good for a few one liners.

You Can't Choke a Chicken without a Game Cock!

Yeah, too bad he doesn't spend more time getting under Saban's skin...A little midget slappin!

As much as he has been a thorn. I would have thrown top dollar at him (highest in NCAA) over kiffen because he is a great coach...And Spurrier could have recruited so much better for UT than he ever would have at USCe. Even at top dollar, Spurrier would have been a bargain over the buyouts and coaching carousel that we just went through.

Getting to play other west teams more often sounds like a fair deal to me.Not saying we should run from a fight but taking the path of least resistance is never a bad idea.We can worry about how a weak schedule affects us when we get to 10 and 0.Go Vols and HTTR!!

Worked for ohio state.

Steve Spurrier on permanent rivals: “South Carolina and Clemson like each other. I don’t know why Clemson would keep liking us though.”

There fixed his quote for him.

I'll always pull for my Vols, but the Ole Ball Coach is a funny man--and a legend. I hope he coaches and ribs everybody else in the SEC for at least ten more years.

I just can't believe this will be his TENTH season at South Carolina. He was at Florida twelve. I remember when he went to South Carolina just thinking he would be there a few years and retire. He has now made as big of an impact there as he did at Florida just about, but to me I will always remember him as a gator. But it's still crazy that he's been at South Carolina so long

Even as a fan of my state school and hating the fact we couldn't beat him those several years I've always found him funny!

He is hilarious! When he does retire, he will be missed, and USC will go back to wining six games a season soon thereafter.

People take Spurrier's jabs way too personally.

I thought it was funny.

I heard someone say " I would hate to see him retire or stop coaching because he is the one coach " I love to hate" what he is saying is ----he would be missed and take away some of the fun of the game
