Star Wars 7?

I know in this day and age its all about the animation and digital effects but I really hope they limit it and actually make real sets in the new movie not just a few actors in alien costumes in front of green screens for two hours like in episodes I, II, and III. I am happy Lucas will only have limited involvement(personally wish he would have none.) Disney has done pretty well with some movies in the last ten years or so. Pirates of the Carribean was pretty good. the new marvel films, and I even liked John Carter a good bit. As long as Jar Jar, Jawas, and Ewoks are only involved in slaughtering roles I think it will have a good shot at contributing to the Star Wars legacy

This a million times. Part of the reason the prequels sucked was the reliance on green screen/blue screen.

I really liked how Peter Jackson used his sets. Mostly sets and minatures with some CGI. I think this would be a good move for the next three.

Is it going to be a trilogy? I just saw where Episode 7 was announced, nothing about a new trilogy. Maybe I missed it.

I'm really surprised this isn't bigger news. It feels like everyone is kind of "eh" about it.

Yes...2015, 2017, 2019.

Time table doesn't seem feasible if they plan on doing it right. They have to tab someone to write it (or adapt it if they base it off a previously published Star Wars story) and then of course there will be re-writes. Adding in casting, location scouting, and everything else involved in pre-production and it just doesn't seem possible to have a quality movie by 2015. All the filmimg and then post-production, I'd think 2017 or 2018 would be more realistic IMO.

I will say thank God Lucas is finally surrendering control. I admire his original creation immensely, but his God complex was too much to take when it came to listening to fan input. The prequels could have been so much better.

Personally. I hope they set it a ways into the future. The original cast could not pull off the Thrawn trilogy and seing anyone else playing such iconic roles would be a huge disappointment. Also, I would hate to see them write off the history established in the novels. I've enjoyed the continuing stories and feel like they have added a lot to the Star Wars mythos. I think it would be cool to set the next trilogy around Ben(Luke's son) and Jaina(Han and Leia's daughter). Maybe that's why there are currently no novels set to publish focusing on the timeframe after Fate of the Jedi.

Whatever happens, I just hope they do it right and please don't let them screw up the Star Wars mythos. I love Star Wars. I read all the novels. Yes, I'm that nerdy. I'd hate to see them throw aside all the history the novels have established because they have truly fleshed out Star Wars in a way Lucas never could. But I'm afraid that's what they're going to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of that has already been worked out. Disney wouldn't have announced 2015 if they weren't well into the process already.

I have some serious doubts about this whole situation. Now there's talk about a completely original story line set in the Star Wars universe. While that's probably the inevitable way to go, they're going to isolate a huge majority of the fan base. It will almost certainly create a whole new generation of Star Wars fans but it just won't be the same without Han, Luke, Chewie and the gang. One thing is for certain, the merchandising juggernaut that is Star Wars will continue on into the future.

The gang just doesn't look like they used to

That's almost exactly how you can describe episodes 1-3; "eh."

Apparently Lucas did the story treatment.

After a hefty amount of speculation on what inspirations Disney and Lucasfilm would use for the plot of Star Wars: Episode VII, the latest reports claim the new movie won’t be based on any existing source material. Forget Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy , the video games and the graphic novels. The next Star Wars is a brand new story.

EOnline is reporting from a source inside Lucasfilm that Episode VII is an original story that we’ve never seen before. Does “original story” mean all new characters, set in the same universe? Or does it just mean a new version of what happens to the characters we know? Also, it appears as though the treatment that Disney purchased for the new trilogy was written by none other than George Lucas himself — as his last act before stepping away from the series.

The unnamed sources are also debunking rumors that various directors are attached to the picture — nobody has been signed up to direct just yet.

I think Lucas providing the story is fine. He's a good idea guy, just not a good script writer or director anymore. I'm also fine with it being a brand new story. I don't want to see something rehashed. No more Empire, none of this dark Jedi crap.

I think most would agree that the best of the original trilogy was ESB which is when Lucas stepped away from the directors chair. Outlining the treatment is one thing, but screen writing and directing are not his strong points.

If it won't be based on any existing material then I guess that rules out any of the children of the original main characters that are profiled in the novels. Also the consensus seems to be that it's set after the original trilogy, not necessarily a bad thing but a story in the Old Republic could have been cool as well.

I was thinking perhaps a trilogy revolving on the Jedi/Sith wars that took place a millennium before the events in The Phantom Menace took place.

Knights of the Old Republic has endless possibilities.

And I am so happy that a new Star Wars is coming out...I needed something to take my mind off of the fire coach, hire coach, we are keeping coach rumors.
