Star Wars 7?

It looks like Disney isn't wasting any time!!

Toy Story 3's Michael Arndt to Draft Star Wars: Episode VII?

Arndt, who also wrote Little Miss Sunshine (winning him an Academy Award) and the upcoming Oblivion and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, is a noted fan of George Lucas's seminal film series and has publicly lectured about their merits.

The site is also reporting the rumor that Arndt's treatment includes the characters of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo...

I can't wait for this. I hope they bring back Jar Jar. He was one of my favorite characters of all time from this franchise. He would have to be like 300 years old by this point, though.

At least Hayden Christiansen wont' be in these.

And what a shame. I was hoping for more well-delivered and memorable lines such as "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth."

Or the ever so intimidating "You underestimate my power!"

Pretty sure NOT serious....

The movie officially has its script writer.

Yesterday, it was reported that Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt had written a treatment for Star Wars: Episode VII, and would possibly write the script. Well, it's official now! Arndt will indeed write the screenplay for the long awaited film. The news was confirmed by Lucasfilm who says that Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have begun story conferences with the Academy Award winning writer.

Arndt has also written films such as Little Miss Sunshine, Oblivion and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I have no doubt he's going to do a great job bringing it to life. He's a talented screenwriter and a huge fan of the series. Click here to read more about his love of the franchise.

We've heard that the studio wants to bring back the three main characters of the original Star Wars trilogy; Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo. There's no confirmation on that yet, and there are no deals set in place with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford yet, but it's looking like that is all going to happen.

I don't buy that for a second. They can create a (new) successful villain without it being Darth Vader. Just look at Darth Maul. As ill-received as the prequels were, his face is plastered all over Star Wars merchandise now, and he was only in 1 movie. They even brought him back for the Clone Wars, in a round about way.

Only way I see him coming back is as a ghost, and then it would have to be Anakin (please no more Hayden Christensen). In one of the original drafts of Jedi, Luke battled Vader while Obi-Wan's ghost battled the Emperor.

The new villain doesn't even have to be a Sith. In fact, I think that would be way too redundant, since the whole point of Jedi was the Sith being erradicated. Lots of ways they can go with it.

Some good news. Larry Kasdan, who co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back with Lucas, has reportedly sigend on to write one of the sequels.

Also, for some fun:

Stuff I've read suggests they are spearheading the franchise for Disney and the plan is to crank out out 2-3 movies PER YEAR much like how Marvel does. These would be expanded universe movies and not just episode sequels.

I'm really pumped about the potential of this whole thing. If they retcon it and recast the originals it's dead out of the gates, and I would have to imagine that Disney knows this. I'm hoping they do a "soft" reset, and use the original cast in their current age as the new Obi Wans to a new generation of characters that face an all new evil. Not much of a fan of the EU at all, so a reset on all of that would actually be a good thing in my mind.

And LOL at Harrison Ford "hating" Han Solo. Mr Ford, I have been a die hard fan since those days and you have been nothing short of awesome in all of your movies. But end of the day, if it weren't for Han, you'd still be a carpenter today. I never got that. Yes Lucas was a drama queen and probably a total pain in the butt to work with, but that pain did have a huge pay off for you.

If the Star Trek and Star Wars universes somehow intersect, I may put a contract out on Abrams.

The young and old Lukes will meet at the end. There'll be something confusing about the timeline as well.

Disney makes another billion and my head explodes.

I like most of Abrams work. His Star Trek was very Star Warsish any way. Kind of odd that he will be helming the two biggest Sci-Fi franchises.

Just further illustrates that Hollywood lacks any imagination and recycle the same scripts/directors.

But anyways, it may work out.
