Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

I just saw this movie over the weekend and I honestly do not understand the hype on it. Outside of visuals there was nothing special about this movie. Seriously, what was so great about it?

Also, and I am sure it has been discussed in here, but why in the hell would a dude that works in sanitation know everything about the classified weapon on the Death Star 2.0?

Would it really of been that difficult to come up with another story, one that didn't feel like a refresh of a previous movie?

Kylo Ren also was trained since a child, yet he couldn't beat a janitor and scavenger (who have never even used a light saber in battle). Kylo was the worst villain ever. Wasn't he a Knight of the Round Table? Where were his friends?

When did Rey learn how to speak Wookie? and how does she know how to instantly fly the Millennium Falcon?

Annnnyyyywayysss....Maybe everybody just hyped it up to much for me and I walked into it with high expectations.

I was a little underwhelmed when I first saw it too but to answer a few things.

Kyle was hurt. Fin had been trained for mele combat as a Stormtrooper so it's not inconceivable that he could hang briefly. They made a point to show Rey battling with a staff earlier combined with strong Force abilities made the scene more plausible.

As a janitor, Fin may have very well been all over the base and made astute observations.

I would say he knows about the inner workings of the system. Our custodian knows how to flip the power in our building and that is basically all he did.

Kylo never finished his training, and by his attitude, he probably wasn't a good student. Just very raw natural ability. And he was hurt. He is a Knight of Ren, not King Arthur. Not sure where the others are or if they're still alive.

If the theories are correct, Rey is a descendent of Luke or Obi Wan, making her incredibly force sensitive (she can see things before they happen, more than likely), which would attribute to her natural ability with a light saber and flying (similar to Luke and Anakin). She also used a staff as weapon, which couldn't hurt her ability to melee.

As for knowing Wookie, she lives on a planet with a lot of different races running around, so it wouldn't be uncommon to know multiple languages. Kind of like living in Europe.

She can fly the Millennium Falcon probably because she's force sensitive and can see things before they happen (this is how Anakin was able to Pod Race).

Those are my best explanations. Sorry you didn't like it. Did you like the previous six?

:good!: Makes sense when you put it that way. Don't get me wrong it was a good movie, but I was expecting it to be much better based on what I heard people say.

I like the original 3 and I liked The Phantom Menace when it first came out since I was young. (Darth Maul was awesome) I can't watch I-III anymore though, the dialogue is just awful.

I think this is overcomplicating it. She referred to herself as a pilot. I'm sure the Falcon is a bit different, but I would assume if you know the basic functions of flying you can figure out how to fly the Falcon. And Rey was extremely knowledgable on the subject.

Yeah, I'd say she could definitely fly it, being a pilot, but I was mostly referring to her maneuvering it through the Star Destroyer like it was nothing. It felt like Anakin in TPM with his Pod Racer. At least that's how they explained his ability to drive it so well in the book.

I hear ya. I liked TPM for the same reasons. I was like 13 or 14 when it came out, but as I got older I began to resent it for all the silliness. Same with the Ewoks in Jedi.

Not sure if this was already mentioned, but theory is that Rey is either Luke or Leia/Han's (leaning towards Luke's) daughter. She actually has had jedi training, as she was trained along side Kylo when he turned. She was put into hiding to protect her. her memory was altered/wiped with false memories implanted. This would be similar to how Bastilla/the Jedi Order did (Darth) Revan in Knights of the Old Republic. Her flashback from the lightsaber was some of the memories coming back.

Also it is noted that Jedi have the innate ability to understand most all languages, thus understanding Wookie.

My theory on Kylo Ren's seemingly odd changes in level of power is that his lack of emotional conviction (he even admits he feels the emotional pull of his parents) causes him to "lose power". In the beginning he is sure of what he is doing and seem to wield almost absolute power (how awesome is stopping a blaster shot in its tracks and holding it while doing other things. Even Anakin/Obi-wan never did this). When doubt creeps in this power seems to lessen. As well, he is notable undisciplined, throwing fits at least twice I remember. I have to say I like the Kylo Ren character, knowing that this will be more fleshed out in a further trilogy. He is both good and evil and I expect to see this play out more in the future films. Really until ROTJ, Darth Vader was very uncomplex. He was the "bad guy" and Luke was the good guy who would fight him.

It's only been mentioned for about 25 pages now.

I'm starting to like the daughter of Luke, granddaughter of Kenobi theory.

Surely Obi Wan didn't just hang out at his hovel in the Jundland Wastes the whole time and got a bit lonely. So he had a daughter which Luke later encountered while on Tatooine waiting to spring the crew from Jaba. And mom didn't know how to get in touch later on and moved on.

The look on Luke's face said he knew exactly who she was at the end of VII. There has to be some relationship there.

Yeah, I think she was a youngling before Kylo went dark side on Luke and his trainees. Little girl Rey is played by an 8 year old, so she could have been getting as advanced as the little boy who tried to take on the Clones in RotS. I definitely saw a similarity with Revan from KotOR with the visions and memory loss, but since that story isn't canon, I don't know if that is a thing in this universe. She could have also just suppressed a traumatizing time in her life (hell, I don't remember 8 at all).

I also liked Kylo Ren. He's getting a lot of hate, but he's showed more as a character than Darth Maul or Darth Vader did in their early parts.

Oh gotcha. Yeah good point.

Not a fan yet. He just seems fairly petulant and his temper tantrums got a bit old. (though the scene where the storm troopers stopped and turned around was funny) Maybe I've been ruined by the emo Kylo twitter account though lol

Of all the Sith in the entire series, I believe Darth Maul had the highest ceiling with the least amount of development. I know they brought him back in the Clone Wars series, but I'd love to have seen him expanded more on the big screen.

Not going to lie, after last year's Florida game(this year I think I half expected it), I pulled something similar to one of his temper tantrums. Kylo is likely mid 20s (the movies are set 30 years after ROTJ, but unless Leia got pregnant right away there is no telling exactly). I was still pretty wild in my mid20s a

Sorry, I was referring to the part about Rey having actually trained under Luke and after the purge had her memory altered/got left on Jakku to keep her safe.

Well same answer, it's been brought up, but it's all good. I'm just being snarky. I realize the thread is massive now so if you're just coming into it, there's little chance you could have read everything to catch up.

Well that could be he remembered her has the youngling he had hidden away, and that itself wouldn't mean he's her father. But I do think she will end up being either his daughter or Kenobi's granddaughter (or both).

I really hope they don't make Rey Leia and Han's daughter, because that's the lamest of the options IMHO. And for all the complaints that it copied the older movies too much, having split up siblings would be even more fodder.

BTW, if Luke did end up hooking up with Kenobi's daughter, you think Luke ever had moments where the mood was killed because he was afraid ghost Obi-Wan would pop in?

Luke: "Is there any way to tell how many midichlorians our offspring will have from this?"

Obi-wan: "I... uh..... just forget about the whole midichlorian thing....."

Yeah, he is bratty, but I think his acting skills surpass Hamill and Hayden's, so his cry baby attitude was at least more believable lol he's great in Girls (if you can tolerate Lena Dunham).

Yeah, Maul could have been a true badass villain. Maybe if Kylo hadn't shown his face so soon, it would have been better for people?

Yeah, I definitely wasn't as levelheaded as I should have been in my early 20s. Hell, I'm 30 and when the Gators scored the go ahead TD this year, I had a fit similar to his in the control room when he destroyed the computer panels. It had been a while since I had an uncontrollable string of GDs, MFs, etc/throwing my drink across the yard. I can see getting angry over what he did and acting similarly if I had his powers.
