I just watched a new hope 2.0
Seriously this movie was WAY to much like a new hope
I do dock The Force Awakens a bit for that, but I can't say it detracted from my enjoyment of the film. So for me, the lack of originality made this film like an 8.5/10 instead of a 10/10. Still a VERY enjoyable movie and a big step in the right direction for this franchise.
I agree. One of the main goals of this movie was to wash the taste of the prequels out of the fans' mouths. I think they went a little too far trying to hit the nostalgia chords but overall they did a good job of establishing the new characters and storyline going forward.
The ironic thing about that is that my favorite parts of the movie had nothing to do with the old characters. I loved the new cast and thought they were strong points of the movie. The only exception was seeing Luke at the end. That was awesome.
I didn't mind similarities to prior movies except the planet destroying organic "death star". Seemed ****ing lazy
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I didn't like the new super duper Death Star, especially when it seemed even more of a letdown than the first one. Plus when you factor in ROTJ, that's basically 3 movies now with exploding Death Stars, and add in numbnuts Anakin blowing up the droid ship in TPM, that's 4 movies that end with fighters blowing something up against "all odds".
Plus you'd think by now they'd figure out a way to keep a handful of fighter pilots from blowing up their big weapon. It's like a Dr. Evil skit writing itself.
To be fair this one did require a small group of people setting explosives inside the station before the fighters had a chance.
And Han's gamble to come out of Hyperspace in the planets atmosphere was pretty cool.
My biggest complaint is that it felt tacked on. The plot of the movie should have focused on finding Luke and that's it. The Death Star 3 seemed like a distraction.

If I've said it once, I've said it 1,000 times: Rogue One will be better than The Force Awakens.
I thought seeing Carrie and Harrison in the film (and their shoddy respective acting jobs) just served as a reminder that the franchise will never come close to a New Hope or Empire.
There was nothing new in it, even the aliens/monsters were boring.

The Force Awakens was better than A New Hope.
