Star Wars: Rogue One

This is pretty spot on. I've mentioned in various Star Wars threads on here that I actually appreciate the prequels more over the last few years watching them again (and the Clone Wars which I skipped when they aired) with my kids. The story is there. Problem is Lucas needed some people around him to reign him in a bit. And someone to get more out of the actors (I still think he did one take and ran off to the FX room to add a bunch of crap in the background).

As for TFA being forgettable. Maybe for older fans but there is a younger generation out there that love it. I don't know how many Rey costumes I saw this Halloween. The only thing really going against it is the amount of SW films coming that could drown it out.

My disappointment with TFA was the actor/character for Darth Vader's grandson and Han Solo's son just came across as a petulant punk with power rather than any type of true villain...

Wasn't that kinda the point though. He wants to live up to Darth Vader's Legacy but can't.

Why though? He knows Vader turned to the light side at the end? Does he want to go to the light side?

I'm going to assume in, for lack of a better term, present day, Vader is still highly regarded as one of the greatest dark figures of all time in the Star Wars universe.

Any newcomer would certainly envy him, especially offspring.

The only witness to that was Luke and Kylo could easily dismiss any recount of the story. Vader spent almost 25 years doing some evil stuff across the galaxy.

Just got back and the non-spoiler review: Simply amazing.

*Beware Spoilers*

The first 1/3 of the movie was slow and boring I thought. Honestly the whole Saw Gerrera character arc was pointless. I also don't think they did justice to the Galen Erso & Director Krennic characters. After that the movie was really awesome. K-2SO is my favorite character and stole the spotlight in every scene he was in. Probably my favorite thing they did was make use reevaluate the Rebel Alliance. Lucas made them super-heroes so to speak, in this film they tend to operate in a moral gray zone while fighting the Empire (Case and point when Cassian kills the informant to stop him from talking).

The Scarif end battle was off the charts. My particular favorite was the space scenes. Seeing that rebel ship ram the disabled Star Destroyer and sending it into the other Imperial Star Destroyer was great. Also seeing Darth Vader's SD shrug off the impacts of the fleeing rebel ships was cool as well. Truly captures how awe inspiring Imperial Star Destroyers are. Overall I think we got an instant classic and I'd rank it right behind the OT and ahead of the PT and Force Awakens.

I think these are all the Easter eggs/throw backs to the OT:

* Jyn running into the characters Obi-Wan kills in ANH on Jedha
* CGI Tarkin playing a role larger than I expected
* Red and Gold Squadron leaders being used
* Red 5 being shot down during Scarif thus creating an open slot for Lue
* Bail Organa & Mon Mothma appearing
* C-3PO & R2 on Yavin
* CGI Leia and the rebel blockage runner escaping from the battle
* General Syndulla's name being called out over the Yavin intercom (Star Wars Rebels character)
* The Ghost appearing at Scarif
* I didn't see it but some people have mentioned seeing Chopper at Yavin, this is the droid character from Rebels.

I think that's all the ones I remember seeing in my first viewing.

My biggest question though is this:

Te movie makes it feel like the Rebel Alliance literally just formed. Everyone is wanting to simply go to ground or surrender at the council meeting before the final battle. I just don't believe that, why would the Imperial commander on the Death Star say that the rebellion is a big threat if it just formed? The old canon had the rebellion and the Galactic Civil War starting two years prior to the Battle of Yavin but under this new canon it hasn't been stated when it starts.

That was unbelievable. The third act is everything you have ever wanted a Star WARS movie to be. Absolutely unbelievable. Going to go see it again tomorrow.
