Star Watching (merged)

I don't think 3 is an issue. It's another step the coaches have to take in the recruiting process, that is all. Simply point to any other SEC school's recent track record and compare it to your own.

The other points are right on and a likely culprit. Record will matter less than simply seeing the product on the field, though. You can recruit to a school like Tennessee coming off a poor record.

i know it was a factor last year. Seastrunk told people he wasn't allowed to visit UT cuz of what all went on here which I always thought was kind of ironic coming from him haha.

And I seen Chris Martin say with my own 2 eyes that his mom wouldn't let him visit UT cuz of what we were doing off the field.

ours are just so much worse than the other schools and it's all happened in one year.

at UGA and UF they get in trouble for getting a DUI (falling asleep at a red light haha) or possession or something like that. that's typical college stuff.

at UT it's much more serious. it's guns with serial numbers scraped off, along with marijuana, wreckless driving, drinking in the vehicle. it's armed robbery. it's half your team getting into a brawl at a bar while sending 2 guys to the hospital with one being a cop who was left unconscious in the middle of the street. or it's a former basketball player and a football player being connected to murder.

I think you are forgetting all Florida and Alabama have had happen the past few years. There's no way it is worse here.

I'm sure there are a fair amount of players whose parents won't let them go to Florida or Alabama for the same reasons.

these are the 3 main reasons imo.

- 3 coaching staffs in 3 years. cannot understate how much this hurts a program

- we are a .500 program the last 2 years and will be in that area again this year. we just aren't doing anything on the field to get anyone excited

- we have had 3 MAJOR off the field incidents in the last year plastered all over the news. we are viewed as a thug and out of control school

2012 will be the year to really judge this staff imo. we are sitting good with 5-10 big time prospects there already.

Best post in this thread yet :eek:k:  :good!:

Not taking away from Dools, but I think the difference is we really weren't in on Nuke, Jackson, and Teague prior to Kiffin, whereas Kiffin had already done some legwork for the guys Dooley landed.

Dooley only had 2 weeks. Seems like this would work against him with Hunter, Rogers, and Stone. "Ahh UT is getting a new coach and I have no idea what's going on. I might as well stay where I know what's going on."

There is no way Dooley could get in on news guys in just 2 weeks and sell them on the program. Kiffin did at least have 2 months.

They both had their problems and pulled in really good classes considering the circumstances.

It's not like a Florida player has ever fired a gun in a crowded apartment or an Alabama player has ever sold cocaine in a university parking lot.

if they have been out with guns in a vehicle, attempted an armed robbery, been connected to murder (Vinson was still on the team at this time), or their best players got in a huge brawl leaving a cop unconscious in the street then I have not heard about it.

so would robbing students at gunpoint in a dorm fit in that?

Yet you are using year-old situations to try and back up your assertion. :hmm:

lol yes I am using stuff that have happened in the past year cuz that is what is in people minds and what they're talking about.

i guess i could go back to '06 or whatever and talk about Andre Caldwell and all those AK-47s, but i don't think that stuff has as nearly as much of an impact as what has happened recently.

But the caliber of players we have recruited up to this point is very disappointing. Some of these guys will undoubtedly end up All-SEC type players, but your odds are much better with better rated talent.

I understand it's a process, but if Kiffin was able to convince high-profile kids to come to UT then we already know it is possible. Unless this recruiting class takes a real turn, it appears that we will be forced to rely on under-vauled players to build our future team upon and please do not delude yourself, that will make it nigh impossible to compete with the Floridas and Alabamas.

This is not an evaluation of our coaching or recruiting abilities, merely a sobering examination of where we are as a program right now.

Another Star Watching CLOWN !

No one said anything about '06. And Seastrunk's situation did not have anything to do with the past year.

Trust me, you are making way more of a thing over this than it is in reality. Like I said, it's another thing coaches have to overcome in the recruiting process. No more.

I have my opinion. You have yours.

And I'm just telling you what Seastrunk said. You can say he's a liar or whatever, but he said it.

Taking a healthy look at an offer list and calling it what it is is not star-watching.

I'm real happy that some of you guys are fine with mediocrity. That's great for you, but I want to beat Alabama so bad my blood boils. It's the competitive fire that makes us "fans" and makes this fun. Without it, what's the point??

I was being sarcastic with the last comeback, for real though, here's a list of the players that we have verbally committed with their other offers that I think are significant enough to list.

Darr (10) Dooleys Steal though: USC, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Northwestern, Purdue.

Worley: Arizona State, ECU, Florida, FSU, UK, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Standford, Texas Tech (lots of good schools for QBs)

Crowder: BC, Duke, GTEch, Maryland, NC state, South Carolina, Vandy, Virginia Tech,

Coleman: Kentucky, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Southern Mississippi, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Carson: Illinois, Kentucky and Mississippi State

Saulsberry: Arkansas, Mich State, Oregon

Downs: Duke, Maryland, Miss. State,

Randolph: Florida, UGA, G. Tech, Maryland, Miss. State, Okla state, South Carolina, Stanford, Vandy

Smith: Wake Forest

Posey: Cinnci, Clemson, G Tech, Maryland

And we have moved up to 35th overall on a list of 120 schools.

I know it's not the best class so far, and trust me, I want the best class we can get. All five stars is what I would like to see. But our program is losing it's stability quick. Recruits wanna know who their coach is going to be and make a commitment to him and the school. but the school doesnt come to their house and talk with Mom and Dad, Coach Dooley does, or his recruiters do like Lance thompson...

Give the coaches a break, you couldn't recruit any better, Im guessing, I know I couldnt and I want it to be my job some day, God Willing.

GO VOLS!

No, you are. You are forgetting the problems that other schools have had as others have pointed out pretty plainly.

Why would I call Seastrunk a liar? You're not even making any sense now.

Anyone who thinks the program is better off after Kiffin than when he first arrived is delusional. He did in fact leave the program in shambles. The attrition rate is much worse now. That is common sense. 3 different coaches in 3 seasons. We lost a lot of players when Kiffin took over and then lost more due to the fact he left. There would have been attrition with whoever replaced Fulmer, however, the fact Kiffin jumped ship after one season doubled the normal attrition rate. It is much worse now.

add Florida to Crowder's list.

add LSU to Posey's list.

you should add Malik Jackson too imo. CDD did a great job of recruiting him.

we have moved up 19 spots in the recruiting rankings in the past 4 days.

however, the fact Kiffin jumped ship after on season killed double the normal attrition rate. It is much worse now.

I don't know about that. It definitely cut down the 2010 class which was slated to address a heck of a lot of issues that badly need fixing. Losing Aaron Douglas really hurts and Bryce Brown leaving sucks, but that's not doubling the attrition rate or anything.

As for the players that left when Kiffin rolled into town, I really don't miss most of them.

I missed the part where I was harping on the coaches!?? I mean, from the beginning I said it wasn't an indictment of the current staff's recruiting ability.

Gimme a break with this stuff.

who are putting so much thought into the stars that Rivals and Scout put on a player. You guys who are bashing Dooley make me sick! I remember having this same argument last year and you were crying like little bitc*es about how Kiffin wasnt bringing in any talent and we all had to talk you off the ledge and say it takes time...he only had a few months before signing day to create relationships with these kids... and then we saw what kind of class he was putting together before he left. And for some reason all of you negative Nancy's forgot that in THREE WEEKS before signing day this past year Dooly pulled Da'rick and Justin Hunter. Do you really think that Thompson and Chaney forgot how to evaluate talent? Do you really think that after all the time Dooley has spent under Saben and in the NFL that he doesnt know what a good player looks like? REALLY!? Do you think that with all the pro bowlers that Bagget and Hindstead have coached that they dont know who can play and who cant?

Let me break it down for you simpletons....Dooley knows more than all of us...they have watched countless hours of film and seen these kids in camp. If DD can pull the likes of Rogers and Hunter in the final hour than I am more than confident that him and his staff can and WILL get the people they need to be successful. Most of the kids they are getting still have their senior season to go and will be evaulted more closely during and after their senior years. Just because they dont have every school in the country offering them schollys as a junior doesnt make them 2nd tier players. So get off your high horses and once again let Dooly do his job. Also rememeber that several players will be taking a wait and see approach to see what kind of offense and defense DD puts on the field...so quit crying!!!

No, your opinion is not a fact Sab. It's an opinion. You may think isn't a fact, but it really isn't bro.

On Seastrunk:

"And Seastrunk's situation did not have anything to do with the past year."- this is what you said

He said that it did have an effect. So you are either calling him a liar or are wrong on your facts.
