Star Watching (merged)

No doubt. Dont dare merge this. This needs to be required reading for everyone.

I'm not going out on a limb to defend anybody here (on the board or coaches). If Dooley doesn't recruit elite players, his tenure will be short. On the other hand, I don't think Kiffin ever intended to be around more than three years. He was an ace recruiter, but we should all admit that they simply did not bring enough lineman to the table last year. I also think he had more leverage to slow play recruits. Dooley doesn't have that luxury right now.

The only possible reason it could be worse is due to the fact that those programs are winning and we are not thus it is magnified.

Well the reason we aren't winning is because our situation is worse. We are in a mess. We don't have a stocked roster like Bama and Florida. Bama's roster never dipped this low when Saban took over. They had attrition but then it stopped because he didn't up and jump ship after one year.

who are putting so much thought into the stars that Rivals and Scout put on a player. You guys who are bashing Dooley make me sick! I remember having this same argument last year and you were crying like little bitc*es about how Kiffin wasnt bringing in any talent and we all had to talk you off the ledge and say it takes time...he only had a few months before signing day to create relationships with these kids... and then we saw what kind of class he was putting together before he left. And for some reason all of you negative Nancy's forgot that in THREE WEEKS before signing day this past year Dooly pulled Da'rick and Justin Hunter. Do you really think that Thompson and Chaney forgot how to evaluate talent? Do you really think that after all the time Dooley has spent under Saben and in the NFL that he doesnt know what a good player looks like? REALLY!? Do you think that with all the pro bowlers that Bagget and Hindstead have coached that they dont know who can play and who cant?

Let me break it down for you simpletons....Dooley knows more than all of us...they have watched countless hours of film and seen these kids in camp. If DD can pull the likes of Rogers and Hunter in the final hour than I am more than confident that him and his staff can and WILL get the people they need to be successful. Most of the kids they are getting still have their senior season to go and will be evaulted more closely during and after their senior years. Just because they dont have every school in the country offering them schollys as a junior doesnt make them 2nd tier players. So get off your high horses and once again let Dooly do his job. Also rememeber that several players will be taking a wait and see approach to see what kind of offense and defense DD puts on the field...so quit crying!!!

They hate you too!

The off-field issues aren't Dooley's biggest problem...they just add to the staleness of the program. Using Florida & Bama's problems to illustrate how our own shouldn't be an issue for Dooley doesn't make sense...those programs are actually winning & winning cures quite a bit.

Absolutely correct.

We are talking about off-field incidents here.

What about incidents of: leaving the scene of an accident, battery, obstruction, sexual battery, in addition to the typical presenting a fake id to an officer of the law, disorderly conduct, underage possession/consumption, assault, resisting arrest and the dismissal of the AD after an arrest? That's just at one school and within the past several months.

Again, we are just as bad as any other SEC school. Simple conversation for the coaches in a living room. It's the same conversation Florida and Alabama have to have with recruits.

What point are you trying to get across exactly, Sab? Like, you're not impressed with offer lists of recruits? That you're not impressed by the class so far overall? Just trying to gauge how much you're trying to act like you know what's up.

I was being sarcastic with the last comeback, for real though, here's a list of the players that we have verbally committed with their other offers that I think are significant enough to list.

Darr (10) Dooleys Steal though: USC, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Northwestern, Purdue.

Worley: Arizona State, ECU, Florida, FSU, UK, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Standford, Texas Tech (lots of good schools for QBs)

Crowder: BC, Duke, GTEch, Maryland, NC state, South Carolina, Vandy, Virginia Tech,

Coleman: Kentucky, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Southern Mississippi, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Carson: Illinois, Kentucky and Mississippi State

Saulsberry: Arkansas, Mich State, Oregon

Downs: Duke, Maryland, Miss. State,

Randolph: Florida, UGA, G. Tech, Maryland, Miss. State, Okla state, South Carolina, Stanford, Vandy

Smith: Wake Forest

Posey: Cinnci, Clemson, G Tech, Maryland

And we have moved up to 35th overall on a list of 120 schools.

I know it's not the best class so far, and trust me, I want the best class we can get. All five stars is what I would like to see. But our program is losing it's stability quick. Recruits wanna know who their coach is going to be and make a commitment to him and the school. but the school doesnt come to their house and talk with Mom and Dad, Coach Dooley does, or his recruiters do like Lance thompson...

Give the coaches a break, you couldn't recruit any better, Im guessing, I know I couldnt and I want it to be my job some day, God Willing.

GO VOLS!

exactly, if whining helped, problems would be solved.....the ignoring of the reality of what dooley is dealing with and acting like the last 10 years didnt happen is annoying.

When did I say I knew what was up? That never happened. All I can offer is conjecture. My point has been made several times and I'm not going to make it again purely for your benefit. Go back and read the thread.

I will agree we don't look any worse than Bama or Florida as far as off the field issues. But we do look worse from a national perspective in the sense we have had all the coaching changes. That just doesn't give a lot of recruits a warm fuzzy. For the most part, recruits want to see a coach is going to be where they commit to for a while. Now if Dooley has a decent season and the team shows an improvement throughout the year, I look for his recruiting to step up big time for the next class.

There's no question, but that is not the point that was being made.
