Star Watching (merged)

it means that 1. their evaluation isn't based on stars and 2. their avg. stars per recruit will still be the highest in the nation

I do not think there is a right answer to the question. The question is founded in ignorance thus any response would be perpetuating the ignorance. JMO.

But the caliber of players we have recruited up to this point is very disappointing. Some of these guys will undoubtedly end up All-SEC type players, but your odds are much better with better rated talent.

I understand it's a process, but if Kiffin was able to convince high-profile kids to come to UT then we already know it is possible. Unless this recruiting class takes a real turn, it appears that we will be forced to rely on under-vauled players to build our future team upon and please do not delude yourself, that will make it nigh impossible to compete with the Floridas and Alabamas.

This is not an evaluation of our coaching or recruiting abilities, merely a sobering examination of where we are as a program right now.

This recuriting class is going to be under the radar from our standards but I believe if we have a good year then next years class will show it. Until then no one with "5 stars" will want to come here until Dooley proves he can coach. Just my opinion

good grief. OK we probably won't have the #1 class next season. Happy? Point it we don't necessarily need it to be successful. Yes Saban could do it but very few (if any) could duplicate that. Still doesn't hide the fact that your constant need to bash UT's staff is ridiculous

Saying we won't be #1 isn't bashing Dooley...I would have said #1 was unlikely (albeit much more likely than now) last year as well. However, Dooley probably won't even be in the top 10, which isn't going to help us catch up with Bama and Florida.

and more times than not Bama and Florida win.

Do you have a point that you are trying to make or is it just the same ole Dooley > Kiffin garbage that others around here are trying to pass off as a legitimate argument?

I cannot wait until you phreaks get the picture that nothing upon nothing has anything at all to do with Dooley vs. Kiffin.

Translation - even if he has no stars yet, Florida wouldnt have offered if he wasnt good enough. Its OK for them because they are Florida. We cant afford to do this because we need star power to make more fans happy. JMO

He needs counselling. He's hung up on Kiffin like some HS girl who stalks the star QB after he uses and discards her.

A couple of guys here just can't get over Kiffin. They're convinced he's a football god. He can do no wrong so by some irrational extension Dooley can do no right.

CLK discovers an undersized LB like Taylor and he must be good regardless of stars. DD finds a guy no one has picked up on and he must be a dud that will contribute to the utter collapse of the program.

It would be high comedy if it weren't so pathetic.

Surely you jest.

Of course I JEST... This whole thread is a JEST... My point is, do you not think that some of these commitments will be replaced if someone better comes along? We do still have a few months before NSD, don't we?

Just wonderin'?

Excellent post.

Kiffin didn't build his entire class on guys no one has picked up on...I think that's the point Sab is trying to make. But yeah, I'm bashing Dooley because I don't think we will have the #1 class. Keep up the genius thinking.

Which is the more likely scenario:

one zero star recruit at florida proves to be a diamond in the rough

or

several 2, 3 star guys all prove to be 4,5 star quality?

Excellent post.

Yes it is. I wouldn't go as far to say UT is toxic right now but our image has taken a hit. Most of the players still recognize the name and with some solid play on the field we can get back to that.

I think it is much more likely that several of them end up satisfying the star watchers by getting a 4th or 5th star.

I don't think the staff is taking commits right now from guys they don't believe have the talent to win championships. This staff isn't a bunch of rookies who don't know football. They also know their jobs depend on getting to a championship level before fan patience runs out (3-4 years).

It would be career suicide for them to take commits from guys who they consider second tier. Maybe you do that in January or on NSD... but not in July-August before they play their senior season.

If he lives up to the SC standards in recruiting ill never speak another foul word about the man.

from beginning to end of course.

Sab's right. It's sad but it looks like UT will have a whole lot of mid-range 3* recruits this year who aren't highly sought after. The same fools who loved UT's '08 and '06 recruiting classes will laud it for being full of "sleepers" and "high character guys". Dooley is certainly taking a different approach, and only time will tell if if he can make it translate to wins on the field, or if he will go after/get more high profile recruits in the future. I'm not at all confident, but I wish him the best. JMO

When you are winning, it is a lot easier to hold the fall backs at bay. It sure would be nice to have a few more three star DTs with a little size this year to help with the rotation.
