Also, for those complaining about the status of a particular recruits ranking in July, the ranking do change about 5 times between now and NSD. So, don't get you panties in a wad just yet.

Try again.

Yeah, we know who was a 3, 4, or 5 star back then right?? No, in fact, a lot of the guys weren't even ranked and there was only Rivals back then, and their rankings were subject at best. He may or may not be right, but to sit there and act like "you know", is foolish. I'll be happy to show proof of this as well.

General Neyland didn't have star ratings, he had a bunch of country boys from Tennessee and taught them to play football. He taught them the seven maxims of Tennessee football and left that for future coaches to use. That is why Tennessee has been one of the most successful programs in the country. It wasn't the Stars.

my only question to people who try to support all of our 3star commitments is:

if we had a 4 or 5* verbally commited in place of every 3* we have now, would you guys all be complaining saying "but where are all of the high character classy 3 stars?"

i am ok with the commitments we have now, and i think a few of them will turn out better than advertised, but i would like to see some more top talent guys commit before NSD. its a long time til February so hopefully Dooley will make it happen!

lol that's what's hilarious. we had 6 or 7 commits last year who moved up star wise. people are dumb if they don't think that will happen with 3 or 4 guys this year.

i know this can't be counted on for sure, but there are on average still around 15 5stars and 70 4stars yet to be handed out. that means 85 guys who are 3stars now who will end up gaining another star by NSD.

there were quite a few services besides rivals back then. I know this because we used to sit and go over the mags all the time. There was a time when being a recruiting expert wasn't so easy

People that say this drive me bananas.

It's July and the ranking ARE NOT FINAL!! Most 3*s right now have offer lists that are conducive to be a 3-4 star, but there are quite a few that haven't been fully evaluated yet. So, please, step off the soapbox until like December.

i dont disagree that some will become 4 stars, but a majority of them wont. and way to totally ignore the question! lol

So, are you saying this because you don't feel that ours won't?? Everyone has a shot to right now, and A LOT of it happens after camp circuits and their senior season. What if Tom Smith becomes 6A offensive player of the year in Florida?? Don't think he will jump up to at least a mid 4-star?? It's TOO early for this argument.

No, you just take no approach and fall into line with all the others jumping on people that they feel to be wrong. I've been around a long time on here my friend, and this place has evolved from being a good conversation based place, right or wrong, to a daily pissing contest between those who actually stick their neck out with an opinion, right or wrong, and those who just want to try and take everyone down. So, please don't stop, or then all the people you look up to on here will start attacking you for having an opinion.

I take a side on nearly every post I make. Just because you continuously get raked over the coals on here for your brilliant picture of Nick Reveiz overlooking a lake doesn't mean that his site has evolved into anything.

I don't even remember most of the names but rivals doesn't even ring a bell. There were at least 4-5 different ones that put out mags/info

Compared to the more accurate ratings today, I would still say they were still iffy at best. There are those "can't miss" prospects, I get that, but the marginal ones are the problem when looking back at that time frame in following recruiting. The internet has revolutionized recruiting, for good or bad reasons.

double negative is kinda confusing there. what i am saying is yes i feel a few of our guys will move up, but a majority of them wont. some people on here act like since all of our commits are 3*s, they automatically move up to 4 stars later on.

Yeah, and it's typically the same as most every half-brained comedian on here that disagrees with a certain set of posters. I know you have had some good stuff too, but you follow way too close to them from what I see. That's just me, and in fact, I would probably just ignore me if I were you, since I don't bring anything of substance or good discussion the board. See, that would be too easy for people to do though.

Your just not happy with where we are as a program right now, it's pretty obvious in your posts today. At least we have good kids wanting to still play for UT at this point, given all the crap we have went through. Just be patient, because we have fallen far and still have a long ways to go.

all the internet has allowed is for people to argue about those marginal prospects. The can't miss guys were always identified the same way. The huge number of 3* shows that they are just lazy IMO. THere were quite a few recruiting buffs that were way more educated on players than the people getting paid for their opinions

we will have 3 or 4 move up based on probability.

we will sign 5 or 6 guys who are already 4stars.

and now we are solidly in the top 15 and approaching a top 10 class.

im not unhappy with the program right now. i feel we will finish strong and end with at least a top 20 class, but i also understand that it is very possible that we dont even finish in the top 30. i am just tired of people every time we get a 3* commitment acting like its better than any 4* or 5* because he is either a "high character guy" or a "diamond in the rough". Yeah, occasionally, dooley will get an underrated guy, but sometimes people just need to understand that Dooley just may not have gotten his guy at a certain position and had to settle for a little bit of a less talented guy.

Sure Freak. Havent you heard what great things Urban and Nick have said about Dooley? They sounded happy.

Happens at EVERY program, just some programs are sitting in hotbeds of talent and the difference between that talent is marginal at best. People freaking out about any rankings in July shouldn't be at all.
