Stokes dropping out?

If for some reason he would be drafted and get a guaranteed contract, he has to go, and noone should have a problem with it

Agree. His reasons for leaving are very similar to Harris and Hopson's reasons. The chance to enter a weak draft class and avoid a strong one. Let's hope he is viewed by the NBA as a first-rounder if he leaves.

I get him leaving if he gets good feedback. Heck I said that prior to the season myself, as did many people. However, I think there is a fairly wide gap between leaving if he gets good feedback and "jumping at the chance to leave early". Perhaps just a bad choice of words for Lewis to use. It just gives the sense that he can't wait to get out of here, which is never an impression I got.

Yea maybe just worded poorly, because these two bolded sentences kind of contradict...one sounds like they're saying if he gets a first round grade he's gone which nobody I don't think would fault him for, but then they're saying if he gets any indication he will get drafted he gone. So which is it, 1st round or any indication??

"Finally, we're aware of all the speculation regarding Jarnell Stokes that took place on Thursday. While we've said all along that it's our firm belief that Stokes would love to bolt for the draft if he had a realistic chance of being taken in the first round, we haven't heard anyone suggest he's going to get that kind of feedback from anyone associated with the NBA.

Again, if he gets any kind of indication from league sources that he's going to be drafted, we expect Stokes to jump at it

Did the post you quoted give you that impression about me?

Not at all bud. I was just making a point on the comment you made, which you were clearly joking, that these UT players have it made. They get free UT gear, they work out in the best of the best facilities, they get free help in their classes, and most importantly they get to wear the power T on game day.

I thought at the beginning of the year that Stokes was a for sure thing leaving this year, because of the weak draft, but as the year went on, I could see that he isn't ready. There are a lot of guys that are not ready and go anyways. One thing that I could tell though is that he doesn't seem happy here and looks frustrated most of the time on the court. He didn't have that look last year. CCM better pray that he doesn't go though. I see another failed NCAA tourney bid without Stokes.

very good rebounder, terrible offensive player. He needs work before any NBA team would give him a sniff. Come on back and use that time to learn to shoot and jump higher than 2 inches. We need you and the NBA doesn't want you right now.

That's the part that has surprised me about Stokes. He seemingly just doesn't have much lift in those legs.

The guy has a handler who answered all his interview questions for him....It was obvious college was just a stepping stone for him. I hope he has changed in a yr and a half but I will be surprised if he stays if he has any opportunity to go at all.

Yeah, I choose to kid around when the discussion turns towards our run of bad luck.

Any big playing here would be frustrated with the guards we've got.
Only chance he had to succeed was to get the ball off the glass and a coach that told him so.

Yeah, well you just wait until the year after next year!

It surprises me that Stokes really didn't even try a 10 foot jumper all year. I think his longest shots were at the ft line. Looking at his stats the only real improvement was a couple more rebounds a game versus last year when he was suppose to be just playing on raw talent.

I think you need to reread pal I was looking for a fact check not spreading a rumor, what this forum does with information isn't my problem.
Except you are the first and only person to bring this to light. You are, in fact, spreading a rumor. No other way around it.

His PPG increased as well.

I was surprised by lack of mid range shots, was that on stokes or coaching is what I wanna know. His freshman year he attempted a few three pointers, not suggesting I want him to go all Wayne Chism, but he wouldn't even look at the basket this year from that far out. Instead of progressing that jumper it almost seemed to digress.

His ppg increased but fg% decreased slightly so I'm counting that a wash. I too think he should have attempted a few 3 pointers. Making a half dozen this year at least would give him the appearance of having an outside shot.

Zach Randolph has a money jumper and excellent footwork and can drain FTs. None of which Stokes can claim.

He has also been in the league for 12 year and has mastered that shot. While at Michigan State his freshman year, he shot 63% from the free-throw line. Whenever basketball becomes a career, it becomes very easy to work on a jumpshot and free throws.

Like I said don't know if that was coaching or stokes...if he wants that first round grade though he's gonna have to show an ability to hit some 18-20 footers though IMO.

Tell that to Shaq and Dwight Howard.

It is not only that but he has no post moves and his footwork is questionable at best. He gets away with it much easier at this level because he is bigger and stronger than everyone else. Won't be that way in the league. No way he is ready for the NBA.

But Shaq and Dwight also have abnormally large hands. Harder to shoot. Stokes may have an easier time learning to shoot
