It's OK to be dissatisfied with the class at the moment, I'm one of those people. That being said, there's no reason to panic YET. Come on guys! Win and they'll come!
You might have put a little too much weight on the bar there champ.
We have four of the top 17. We are trending with Smith and Chandler. We are also looking pretty good for Javonta Payton if his grades pan out. If we sign all of those that would give us 7/17 of the top guys in the state. Rodgers, Richardson, and Stevens were never coming here so just cross them off. The only recruit that we really wanted that is committed elsewhere is Higgins and who knows how that pans out on NSD. Things aren't as bad as they look. So simah down nah!
Was thinking the same thing. Surely Butch is looking at what the elite SEC teams are getting and won't stand pat with what he has.
Butch did say when asked about having so many early commitments and said it's the result of building relationships over time. He also said it's just getting started. Maybe that means gitshirts coming, or maybe it means keeping these 23 committed till NSD will be the staffs focus.
Maybe you can explain what he means. It doesn't make any sense ...building relationships over time....recruiting is always about building relationships over time. This year shouldn't be any different.

And we lost the #1 and #2 ranked players in the state to out of state schools. That should never happen!
#2 was never coming here anyway so it is hard to lose something we never had. I don't know what happened with Tee but I know he hasn't signed anything yet. You never know. So before we go and declare the football program kaput maybe we should watch the season and see how it all plays out. Mmm Kay? :hmm:
The main thing that frustrates me is our staff's inability to land our top in state recruits in this class. I get that you don't land them all but Tennessee isn't Florida or Georgia when it comes to churning out a ton of blue chip in state players. We NEED those prospects and we need them to commit early to help build momentum to attract other blue chip players outside of the state. Losing Tee Higgins hurt. Losing Jacoby Stephens hurt. Losing the son of the last QB to win Tennessee a natty hurts! And frankly I'm not optimistic about Ty Chandler or Trey Smith either. I'm baffled that suddenly in state guys are passing on their state school to play elsewhere, despite all the work Jones and his staff have done and knowing that we are on the cusp of blowing up in the East. Why is there suddenly this disconnect after 2 straight years of great in state recruiting? I just don't understand it.
Tee ain't coming unless there's some unlikely dumpster fire at Clemson this year. He basically punked the entire state of Tennessee with his fireworks display.
