Stop with the complaining over 3* recruits

Unfortunately that's not really true. The class "looked" like it was small. In reality it wasn't as it was 25 because there were 4 blue shirts that were part of it. The average star rating also goes down when you factor them in.
So if you're going to go that route and claim the blueshirts counted towards'16 then the '15 class was ranked even higher. Or would you prefer to counting them toward both classes so it fits your narrative better?

Also this is a perfect example of someone that looks at stars only.

Do you know who Arkansas offered at RB and tried to get before Hayden? Trey Coleman. I hope Bielema, notorious for finding great running backs, checked the stars first or he was wasting his time with Coleman.

The funniest part of any of these star discussions that we don't really know what the star ratings are from the coaches perspective, only what the service ratings are. For all we know they could all be 5*, and the coaches could be giddy as schoolgirls while VN is wringing their hands. With the depth we have now, they have the luxury of changing the rating metric to highest ceiling and best fit, rather than current ability.

The strongest stone wall is built from stones that fit best together, not the prettiest stones the pile.

Good job butchna, both for his response plus seeing stars.

Maybe you haven't been following our recruiting lately. Best in the country? Lets get real here. We are grabbing kids with Toledo, East Carolina, and other crazy looking offer lists. We are passing on kids going to Arkansas, Michigan, and Ole Miss. We are passing on kids who are national top 250-400 to get commits in the 700-800's. If you are talking best in the country, it seems very much backwards my friend.

Lastly, lol at the offer list argument. Do you think Chase Hayden had a committable offer to Michigan and the other big schools when his final three were Ark, OkSt, and Mizzou? Haha

"Still"? Do you realize JUST HOW BAD we were when Butch took over? That first pro day, our PUNTER clocked the fastest time! This was a REBUILD...from the ground up! And the foundation of it was set by the third year. Last season's team could (and did) compete with the best in the country! We had leads on two of the playoff teams. That not a "frustrating" feat. Some of us refer to it as pretty freaking amazing.

You misunderstood me. I'm not frustrated with Jones and the progress he's made. I'm frustrated that some of our top in state recruits aren't buying in. Now, WHY they're not buying in is what I'm questioning and in Tee Higgin's case I think it absolutely has to do with how poorly our WR's have been coached and performed.

Missed it then. :hi:

Actually I mentioned Michigan as it was said we passed on Nate Johnson last class as he went to Michigan. We made a great choice in Corey Henderson. Of course he didn't qualify though. The issues didn't start with this class, they started last year. Coming in at 14ish points to it.

It would affect the 2015 class very little. Those 4 didn't do anything in 2015 but bring down the average star rating. Overall class rank wise, wouldn't matter. Yes, they should be counted in 2016. The class wasn't 21, it was 25.

I actually think last years class is extremely underrated. Pound for pound very solid class and speaking of receivers, since you chose Henderson to make your argument, it was an under the radar very good class with the 4 we got. I feel like the roster is pretty stacked for the foreseeable future and maybe 17 is the depth class that you all thought 16 was.

Of course it was underrated. If this one is 20th, it will be as well. I know, I know.

What happened to blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah?

InVol is saying of you count those BS's for 16 then the average rating for 15 goes up.

Ok. I was saying if you remove them from 2015 I'd guess the ranking stays the same. Yes the average star rating would increase slightly. I've never had an issue with 2014 or 2015 other than the number of guys already gone. Those 2 classes are where we need to be. 4th-8th, will have us competing for titles beyond 2016.

Butch made a statement in his PC for Media Day that I think rings true. Football players require development. They develop at different rates and have different expectations. However, the players that have stuck it out and allowed themselves to be developed are primed for a great year. All those players from the 13 and 14 classes that have bolted already are gone, with exceptions, because they didn't allow their development the time that it needed. It doesn't matter if a recruit is a 3, 4, or 5* they still need development. So if a player doesn't "get it" until their Jr year that is ok. Whenever the light comes on they will start to play winning football. If they are impatient and don't want to wait they will transfer and let the development process happen elsewhere. Regardless of who stays and who goes, Butch and his staff are great at developing football players and we will see that on the field in a couple of weeks.

No, you choose to try to pull our lowest rated recruits from the previous class in an attempt to make this class look worse.

Trolling is a delicate balance of trying to seem rational and logical while irrationally and illogically interpreting everything in the most negative or most emotionally charged way. And yet some here manage to pull out off. Kudos.

Nonsense. Just counting the 2016 recruits as part of the class they belong with. Helps do away with the silly notion that we signed a small class. It was 25 as they took all they could COUNTING the blue shirts. It wouldn't change the 14th place ranking. It would drop the average a bit.

For those who believe we need to consistently have top 5 or even top 10 classes to compete for nat'l champs, take a look at what Nebraska did from 1990 - 1995.

Year Recruiting Final
Class Avg. AP
Ranking. Ranking

1990. 28.33
1991 28.0
1992. 9.67
1993 17.5. 3
1994 21.75 1
1995 7.67 1

It's not all about recruiting rankings, it's about finding talented players who fit your system, and the coaches ability to get the most out of each player. Another poster mentioned Gary Patterson at TCU, and they are spot on as that program shows you don't have to have top ranked recruiting classes. The key is did you identify the right players who can play at championship levels given enough time to grow and develop.
