Stop with the complaining over 3* recruits

And anybody who has a problem with last years signing class is just trolling imo. Vols signed some ballers in that class! Best QB in the country, best secondary class, 3 great OL prospects with high ceilings, great wide receivers, number 1 athlete in the country in Byrd, and King Kongbo. If you don't think we can win with that class I don't know what to tell you. If they would have gotten Brown there would be no questions, but still the class was outstanding and Butch is fixing the lack of DLs in that class in the 2017 guys

Last years class may well end up one of the most, or the most underrated of all time. I know a lot of you fellers think I'm a downer now, but not about that class. It is special.

Actually I did address your question. Is there a real difference in a 3* and a 4*? Yes. As I said, history shows stocking classes loaded with 3* talent will not regularly be a title contender in the SEC. You have to get a good ratio of 3* to 4-5* talent. 6-8 4* and 15 or so 3* will not get it done. 15 4* and 10 3* IMO is where we need to be minimum. Mix in a 5* now and then. Why was 2014 so good? 16 4*'s. Yes, it matters.

Epic failure response. Continue your foolishness.

You make some nice points but the reality is we have signed a ton of 3* recruits. Butch wants to sign 25 scholarship players for 2017. We're at 23 players right now. That's 2 spots left.

People are saying let Butch allow 10+ commits to sign elsewhere. Really? How would that make Butch look & the media would have a field day in him doing this.

Now, if he allows a couple to go elsewhere to sign a 5* & a 4* player then that would seem fine in my eyes. I'd say at most 3-5 players would be fair to let go. No, not 10+ players. That's just not going to happen folks!

If he wants to let a few go in order to sign a couple better players then so be it. I just can't believe Butch has decided to allow 23 to commit this far away from NSD. He knows what he's doing though. He's the coach & we're the fans!

First off, we haven't signed anyone.

Looking at the makeup of our current roster, we have exactly 50% 4/5* and the other 50% 3/under. And the general consensus is that we have a damn good team on our hands. So, entire 4/5* signing classes are not required to build championship caliber teams.

Next (for star gazers), if we wanted to maintain that 50% roster composition, we should aim to recruit at that level or better. With a 25 signing class, we need 12/13 4+ stars:

Right now we have 3 4*s on the Composite; we need 10 more. We have 7 commits who are not composite 4*s but who are 4*s on at least 1 site. It would not be unreasonable for any of them to get bumped on the composite. And that doesn't include Fant, who was injured all of last year and is expected by many to blow up this year.

Let's say half (4) get bumped up. That would put us at 7. We have 2 more spots to fill. They will both be 4/5*s. That puts us at 9. We part ways with 3 or 4 players, and you have your class. A good/solid class that is on par with the roster we have now as well as the previous recruiting classes. And it's around a top 10 team.

For the non-star gazers, let's continue to trust the staff's judgement and ability to develop talent.

What statistics? All I see are a bunch of "IMO(s)" scattered about.

It was stated that we need 60% 4*s minimum at 15 4*s to 10 3*s. But later it was stated that the reason that '14 was so good was because of the 16 4*s, which made that class 50%. Contradictions galore with as much negative spin on BS as possible - that's what you're applauding.

I'm good with 16 4* in 2014. Reality is classes of 32 isn't a normal thing. Unfortunately I believe about 10 of those 32 didn't make it very long once they got to campus.

It's OK to be dissatisfied with the class at the moment, I'm one of those people. That being said, there's no reason to panic YET. Come on guys! Win and they'll come!

Agree. Not panic mode yet, but I think it's reasonable to be a little concerned

The problem with signing so many 3* recruits this early in the cycle is that the better ones will have their recruitment blow up as NSD approaches. Once that happens there's no telling where they end up signing. Keep an eye on kids like Bembry whose recruitment is starting to heat up. For those of you who want to make room for higher ranked players, I wouldn't worry because some of these 3* will likely flip, clearing the way for higher rated players.

Bembry is one we need to keep so you Dawgs just keep walking.

The title of this thread says it all. I agree that folks might be less than thrilled with the class as it is but there is a whole season for these kids to play yet. Who knows which kids will have a switch flip and totally ball out their senior season ending up a high 4*. Also, UT has a whole season to play and for all indications it should be a great season for us. The constant negative of "certain" posters just really drags this place down. We don't all have to be sunshine pumpers but Catbone, who is as cautious with the optimism as can be, says don't panic. The ones that are still beating the dead horse narrative of Butch is washed up or Butch didn't prioritize the instate recruits are either trolls or just incapable of seeing anything positive. People keep responding to them and feeding into their shame spiral day after day causing the rest of us to be muted as we look forward to our football team kicking off in 22 days. In 22 days we will see Big Orange Football and we spend most of our time reading posts about Butch failing in recruiting. So let's let recruiting bake for a little bit and see how that cake tastes in a few months. Right now let's get ready for the main course and watch Team 120 wreck some fools! :td:

What's really funny is that if we got a 4* Rivals player, Leb would be the first to point out if he wasn't a composite 4*. But his fellow troll uses Rivals to try to make a worse case for our class, and Leb pats his back. Even he must see the hypocrisy here. BTW, even if SC added JW, they would still be behind us in player ranking, but keep going with whatever helps you sleep at night.

Leb cries, day after day, about how Butch has lost his recruiting stroke- Chandler, and Smith are the only big fish we will land, our class will be outside of the top 25, etc.

But with all this all said, Leb, expects CBJ to have a top 5 class, but with refraining from dropping any current commits. And when he does, goes on a rampage about how CBJ is a dirty recruiter, and a liar, etc.

This is Impossible. Unless some and/or a lot of our commits get bumps, our rating will be lower than the norm.

The point of this post is to show how hypocritical. Illogical, and pessimistic Leb is.

I'm starting to think he's Dooley w/ that irrational mindset.

Don't take em if you're going to dump them. IMO a reasonable mindset. Why take a commitment from a guy in June if you know you have several uncommitted guys interested who are higher on the board? Lots of folks on the board love to preach "wait". IMO our coaches could benefit of doing a little waiting in some of these cases.
