Stop with the complaining over 3* recruits

So how is that a UT failure instead of a personal decision by Tee? You make it sound like you are blaming Butch for not doing enough to land the top recruits in TN. Out of curiosity, what do you think Butch should have done better, specifically, to land the top instate talent?

He committed to us initially then de committed. Yes I see that as a failure on our part for not being able to hold onto him. We lost him for a reason.

In terms of what should CBJ have done better to hold onto Tee, not have a team of underachieving wide receivers and a mediocre WR's coach would've helped. Not blow 4th quarter leads that kept us out of Atlanta last year. That would've helped. I guarantee you Clemson used those factors to negative recruit against us.

CBJ has definitely made some game decisions that didn't make sense. I think he learned from them. As far as the receivers go, some of that falls on the coaches but some has to fall on them too. Additionally, CBJ has had to rebuild the line from the ground up. The cupboard was pretty bare when he arrived. Anyone who expected more than what he has accomplished has set the bar to high. If Tee didn't want to wait and see how the team did this year then something else is going on and I doubt Butch has much control over it.

It just feels a bit insulting because Tee is such a high profile in-state guy. I understand it happens from time to time and some kids just want to play elsewhere, like Jacoby Stephens. I get that. But we had Tee committed and lost him. In situations like that, yes I think that absolutely does fall on the coaching staff.

As far as the other in state kids we're going after, I'm frustrated over the fact that we don't have them committed already. Why all the deliberation? Those kids should be the FIRST ones in line to commit. We should have our program in a position where those should be the easiest ones to get because they're in our backyard. And before anyone says "Florida, Georgia, Texas, etc don't keep all their in state recruits either" just stop! Those states have far more in state blue chip players than those schools can even take in a single year. We don't have that luxury. So to see us lose any of the few blue chip players we DO have, yeah it pisses me off a little.

Agree. Still have to hope things will change before February. Some will come and others will be told to look elsewhere. But as of right now, it feels average

Tee committing to Clemson was a gut punch for everyone. I'm willing to bet it was for CBJ too. I am also willing to bet he isn't sitting around the football complex day after day pining over Tee. He is getting team 120 ready to show Tee and the rest of the country that UT is not the same UT that operated under Kiffin and Dooley and even him the past couple years. This is now a loaded experienced team that has depth and will compete year in and year out for championships. When we show that the recruits will be committing early like you want. Until then they are gonna wait and see the results. Let's see how recruiting in state looks after a few games this season. I think it will look a little different. If Tee sticks with Clemson then all I have to say is that is his decision and IMO his loss.

I hope you're right. I guess that's another thing that frustrates me in that we are heading into year 4 under CBJ and we're still having to "audition" for some of our in-state recruits! I get the realities of where we've been as a program but as a Tennessean and a Vol fan I still have pride and it just feels insulting as hell.

"Still"? Do you realize JUST HOW BAD we were when Butch took over? That first pro day, our PUNTER clocked the fastest time! This was a REBUILD...from the ground up! And the foundation of it was set by the third year. Last season's team could (and did) compete with the best in the country! We had leads on two of the playoff teams. That not a "frustrating" feat. Some of us refer to it as pretty freaking amazing.

I understand and fully agree that UT should be able to walk with pride through our state and cherry pick the best recruits. It just speaks volumes to how badly the previous regimes destroyed our once proud program. Let's pop some popcorn and enjoy this upcoming season!

Sure I was. Not as frustrated as I was watching Dooley's leftovers chase legit P5 players in the first season. You also need to realize that every coach has to develop their style IN THE BIG LEAGUES. Nick Saban didn't start out killing it at Michigan State. He had to see what did and didn't work and emphasize the DID. Butch IS stubborn, but his move to Shoop and the previous hire of DeBord (and his finite changes in emphasis) were admissions that the status quo wasn't going to cut it. This is the first year under Butch that we're going to be favored in practically every game. Let the beta test play out...it's going to anyway.

Why do so many people insist on being dragged kicking and screaming to success? I think BraveVol will be ok. He just needed a pep talk. Others won't be satisfied unless we fail so they can say "I told you so!"

Love coaching searches. They never realize how mediocre they are until they sign on. :)

Saban and Harbaugh are heralded as two of the best coaches in the game. What about Michigan last year trying to run the clock against Michigan State, muffed the punt, Michigan State runs it back to take the lead as time expires. What about a couple of years ago when Bama is tied with Auburn and tries to kick a 50+ yard FG for the win, and Auburn runs it back for the win instead. Do you think all coaches are perfect?

Jones made some head scratchers, but there aren't many coaches that could have gotten us from where we were to where we are in this amount of time. Like Butchna said, his personnel improvements illustrate his willingness to make necessary changes to keep the program going in the right direction. He's put in the ground work to make this program great again. He deserves the opportunity to coach the team he's built and to prove whether he has it or not. I also believe he's learned from his mistakes. And he won't be outworked.

By improving in every season Jones has been here, there is no reason to question the direction of the program. And until he stops showing improvement, there should be no reason to question the end product, as we haven't seen it yet. Be negative or positive; it won't change the results. But it is more fun to be positive and enjoy it.

Amen. Does your husband sit back and let you handle the football talk during games? :)

I would.

Honest question, would you rather have a roster full of Tennessee players and go 6-6 every year, or the best players from the country and win 10+ games a year?

Maybe you haven't been following our recruiting lately. Best in the country? Lets get real here. We are grabbing kids with Toledo, East Carolina, and other crazy looking offer lists. We are passing on kids going to Arkansas, Michigan, and Ole Miss. We are passing on kids who are national top 250-400 to get commits in the 700-800's. If you are talking best in the country, it seems very much backwards my friend.

The only player they passed on was Hayden. The other players weren't passed on, they chose other schools. They didn't feel like Hayden fit their offense, plus they liked where they were with Chandler.

Also, I wasn't insinuating that we have the best in the country on our commit list. Our commitment list sucks, whether Hayden was on it or not. If we win this fall, we will have a top 15 class. If we don't, it will look Dooley-esque.

Also this is a perfect example of someone that looks at stars only.

Do you know who Arkansas offered at RB and tried to get before Hayden? Trey Coleman. I hope Bielema, notorious for finding great running backs, checked the stars first or he was wasting his time with Coleman.
