Stranger Things

I don't understand the constant criticism of the cheezy 80s cliches from people. It has been a huge and very intended element of this show from the very beginning. I don't see why anybody that does not get or like it even watches it. I mean not doing it would be stupid at this point. Like changing personalities or something...🤔

This is not really directed just at you..it is just curious to me..like griping about a documentary not being exciting enough..weird.

I don’t mind the 80’s cheesiness to a certain degree. I just thought they laid it on way too thick this season, and it honestly isn’t even necessary at this point. The characters and plot are good enough to carry the show, and a little 80’s nostalgia sprinkled on top works wonderfully, but it doesn’t have to be injected into every scene. That’s overkill, and it almost detracts from the show’s actual strengths.

Just finished season 3. I'm so pissed about...

Them killing off Hopper! He was by far my favorite character on the show!

Also...

I hate that Billy died too. Sure, he was a prick but I liked his character.

Also...

I kept wondering who the token gay character was going to be. I was honestly surprised at who it turned out to be.

Also...

I know the show can be silly/funny at times but the whole Neverending Story musical scene was a bit too far imo. It was very groan-worthy.

Also..

I got genuinely misty-eyed at the ending with Eleven reading Hopper's speech.
I agree with most of these, but I kind of liked the never ending story song, it seemed to fit as this would probably be one of their favorite movies.

Just finished episode 1, it was so bad. I don't care about love I want destruction. Literally every character has some form of love nonsense going on.
I understand wanting more action, but 10 of the main characters are teenagers, romance/sex is literally on your mind all the time at that age. It kind of makes it feel more realistic to me.

It was fine the rest of the season, the first episode was just overkill as every single character was just chasing after someone. I'm not really that worried about realism in a show about kids fighting monsters from another dimension.

The Neverending Story bit was hysterical. From wondering if Suzie exists to her being more concerned with having her boyfriend (Dustin of all people) sing to her. I loved it. Like she knew a mindflayer was taking over Hawkins. She just wanted to hear her Dusty-bun sing. They hadn’t spoken in a week! That’s like 8 years in young teen love.[SPOILER/]

Y’all know that actress for Nancy, Natalia Dyer, is from our neck of the woods, right? Nashville

And I just finished season 3. I liked it. It’s not as good as season 1 but better than season 2.

Yes and she needs to eat a sandwich or two.

I still don't understand the point of the episode in season 2 where El ran away and met all those super people. I thought that was going to be a returning storyline in season 3, but it appears it's just some filler weirdness they threw in to get to 8 episodes.

I hate Mike so I was really disappointed when...

The Duffer brothers chose not to let the Billy/Mike's mom thing play out.

That could tie into season 4?

Season 3 did better sticking with the plot and with the attention to detail.

Season 2 was 9 episodes. I didn't care for it, but it did 3 things IMO. 1-She developed her powers. 2-It drew her line in the sand. It put her in a position to decide whether or not to cross a line. 3-Sets up potential future characters.

Couldn't she have gone to the moon to do all that?

I’m 5 episodes in. I thought the 80s stuff was going to be over the top, and it is when I stop and think about it, and distracting. But it really isn’t too intrusive in the moment. A lot of it is just the way the 80s were and unavoidable.

A big deal was made about the New Coke cameo but in the same scene there was a Jolt Cola too.

One 80’s saying that I hadn’t heard in forever that cracked my up was when Max opened Billy’s porn drawer and said “Gag me with a spoon!”

Story has been pretty decent so far. Good cliff hangers that kept me up late watching about 2 episodes past my bedtime LOL.

My biggest compliant is Winona Ryder is looking younger in this season than the frazzled single mom from season 1. That is distracting.
