No, 32 regional hosts. Still have 64 teams but each regional is 2 teams. Then you could actually pair the overall 1 seed with the 64 seed. But this makes too much sense for the NCAA to implement so it will never happen.
The current system is fine--and more efficient. You don't need to play 32 two-team series; it's silly. As is, all four teams in the regionals play until
they lose two, which is certainly and perfectly fair. The only thing no sport needs--college or pro--is to further length the season. We're already getting that stupidity with football--and in that case it's just obvious greed and playing the fans for dupes.
