Syrian Kurds are close to declaring Independence

No none of it makes since. Erdogan called his bluff and Trump never thought he would. Which has now caused chaos not only in Syria but through the would power structure. Now you have a situation where the balance of power has been tipped and the hegemonic stability is Now unstable.

I do believe that you are being a tad hysterical.

WTF did you read?

No I believe it because Trump has a habit of not thinking or listening to the expertise of advisers who are not yes men.

Erdogan is a mad man, he staged a coup just so he could assume total control over the country. Why wouldn't Trump think he would have struck with or without or troops in the area? Say he did strike and we suffered casualties, would you support a war against Turkey?

I'm not quite sure Carlos is reading that Axios article correctly.

Basically, it states Erdogan called Trump's bluff. Sounds quite the opposite.

Erdogan: "I'm going to invade!"

Trump: "I've been telling you for two years not to..."

Erdogan: "I'm really going to do it this time!"

Trump: "Okay, enjoy the mess you're about to get into and let me pull my troops back..."

If the Turks will shoot at positions known to have US troops why do people think withdrawing US troops was a green light? How would standing our ground and forcing two NATO allies to fight be a good decision?

A small regional power would not fire on a superpowers military positions unless they knew said superpower would do nothing in response.

The American troops were strategically placed to try to prevent what we are seeing. Your hypothetical after the withdrawal is a moot point, wouldn't you say? Seeing what's happening and thinking what could have been a silly game redhats like to play. At ;east we don't have the war hawk Hillary in office, at least our troops weren't killed, at least they couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt Trump conspired with Russia, at least we got out of that bad nuclear deal with Iran and the arms treaty with Russia.

Except Trump never thought he Erdogan would actually do it. Now we have an situation that was controlled and now is pure chaos. Throw in the Russian Air Forces bombing the positions of Turkish militias today a new added element.

We should never have been there in the first place. And Trump has stated he wanted to pull us out. That is consistent and I don’t care if both parties war hawks are pissed.

And if you want to split hairs on allies the ONLY factual treaty ally we have in the fiasco is Turkey. Erdogan wanted to be the big boy. Trump warned him. Erdogan was clear on his intentions regarding invading. Trump got us the hell out of the way. Good.

And we never should have started in 2011 with the CIA and SF in there in the first damn place.

Bingo. And we should and did get the hell out of the way. Kudos to Trump.

Without striking Turkish troops with airpower how would they have prevented "what we are seeing". I guess you are making the assumption that their mere presence would have dissuaded Erdogan from attacking? So I must ask you why do you think that? What has he done to make you think he is rational and wouldn't risk conflict with the US?

Controlled for how long? How long are we supposed to stay in these shitbox places? Until Kurds and Turks and Sunni and Shiite get along? Will Jesus oversee the withdrawal ceremony? When do we say enough is enough and stop babysitting the world?

HTF do you know what Trump was thinking? My take is that Trump did think he was serious and was going to attack.

That isn't an assumption, that's what it was doing. Now we have ISIS fighters running the countryside. What has Trump done to make you think he's rational?

It was doing? Erdogan previously announce "we're going in" and I I miss it?

Getting our troops out of the way of the Turkish attack.

Good grief.

And I get accused of mental gymnastics

You think we would invade Turkey? Come on now.
Lol at saying we wouldn’t invade Turkey but insisting that Turkey was going to attack our troops.

No, we wouldn’t invade Turkey. But we would definitely destroy every troop Turkey threw at us.

I don’t believe Turkey would purposely attack our troops. However in a battle with our troops in close proximity to the combatants I could easily see us getting friendly fire. Thus get our troops out of the damn way
