Tajh Boyd

I'd much rather have a qb that could throw the ball 40 yards accurately rather than have a qb who can throw the ball 60 yards. All I know is that T. Boyd was considered by Rivals.com ans Scout.com that he was the 3rd best accurate passer in the 2009 recruiting class. That has to be worth something surely. The height between Boyd and Brunetti is not a difference at all so I'm just curious if there was more to his reasoning as to why he didn't like Boyd in his system.

No it doesn't.

volcrazi i was wondering the same thing.. Boyd's accuracy was considered a more accurate passer than all the QB's we are looking at now.. except for the guy from USC..

and in a pro-style system, you HAVE to have an awesome accurate passer.. just like what Matt Leinart was, and Carson Palmer for USC..

and from what i gathered, boyd's arm was strong.. I guess he doesn't have the velocity that kiffin wants, but geeeeez..
Boyd looks like a damm good prospect to me.. and he is going to play pro-style, not the spread, he's said that numerous times..

i wanna elaboration on why Boyd wasn't the right fit.. because its not just his ARM STRENGTH ! he has a helluva arm

The beauty of a head coaching job is that you don't have to elaborate on why you do anything, you just have to get results. One of the greatest atributes that Carroll praised Kiffin for was talent evaluation. I am positive that Kiffin would not let Boyd go without extensive evaluation of tape. Kiffin knows what he wants in a qb and it isn't Boyd. I felt like it wasn't a good move at first also, but really this is what we hired Kiffin for so just let him do his job and see how it turns out.

Good post.

Agreed.

My first reaction was --- "We are now sure that the new coach has a pair."

SC mods were asked if they will go after Boyd because he has shown interest. Even their mods said he was not a good enough passer to merit an offer. Kiffin did the right thing here.

I get your message and point is well taken, but a side note......... please don't give any credit to anything that has to do with USCe and football. Maybe something that has to do with USCe and how to tolerate watching bad football in a compost pile, but that is about it.

I am glad that we won't be getting Boyd. After learning just how much his father is involved in his recruiting and how hateful of a man he seems, Boyd can go elsewhere since this decision doesn't seem like it's up to him.

Im with eric, if he comes with all that baggage I dont want him. Thats all this team needs now is a dad causing problems. I am also glad we lost Petty, I would rather give a cheerleader a scholly.

After what he had to say about PSU, I can almost say without a doubt that Boyd's father is the primary contact and will tell his son where to go play. That's what I have read and I could be wrong.
alright well since eric's opinion is that we shouldn't get him then i guess we shouldn't get him

The thing about this situation is that it sets Kiffin up for winning the trust of other recruits and their family...

Imagine this conversation with Teague for example...

Kiffin: "Look Marsalis....I just turned away a 4* QB that was just invited to the Army AA game cause I really didn't feel like he fit my system....so obviously I want the best not only for my team but also for a player like Tajh and I'm not going to BS anyone into coming here"

Teague and family: (watching intently)

Kiffin: "Now here's the thing...you're the kind of player that I want on my team....I know you will fit right in to my system and I want you to come here and be a star for me"

Teague: "Well coach...I am really interested in playing for UT and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you mean what you say because of the way you handled Tajh....so you've definitely earned my and my family's respect and I'm now going to put UT at the very top of my list(in a perfect world)"

My point is....alot of people have doubted Kiffins decision on Boyd but I think moves like this will do great things for Kiffin's reputation and therefore his ability to earn the respect and more importantly the committment of future recruits

I have wanted us to get Boyd but i respect Lane choice. My thing is how do we fault his father for trying to get his son into the best school for him. I mean the guy is his father isnt that part of his duties as a father. I just hate seeing this kind of banter i dont want this kid because of his father or mother. Guys this isnt Pee Wee football I mean what kind of problem can the father cause the University.

Boyd is going to Ohio State, he's officially announcing it at the Army AA game.

Redshirt first year, and when Pryor leaves for the NFL, he'll be starting as a Soph. Not a bad deal for him.

He will fit in well at OSU. I wish him all the luck in the world.
