First, I don't consider this a military blunder. This is a political blunder but to answer your question in no particular order.
Operation Eagle Claw was an unforgivable military blunder. This one is completely on the military brass.
Our drive to the Yalu river during the Korean war, should have stopped in Pyongyang at least until the supply chains caught up.
Eisenhower approving Operation Market Garden.
Battle of Mogadishu (this is both a military and political blunder)
Why in the actual F is a teacher still there? This has been in the works for literally months.
There is some chatter that the Chinese and Russians may have played a role in preventing US air support.I was comfortable with the advisor/air support role the military was performing, as it was very low risk and the only way to keep the Taliban from taking the country back. I would have also been fine with cutting our losses and handing the country back over to the Taliban if there had been an orderly withdrawal. But this isn't orderly, it's a cluster. Leaving Bagram in the middle of the night without transitioning it over to the Afghans was colossally stupid. Allowing the Taliban to take Tarin Kot, Kandahar, and Mazar-i-sharif without giving the Afghans air support was stupid. Leaving 10,000 civilians in the country was stupid. Having to beg the Taliban to allow us to safely evacuate is a major embarrassment.
Of course this will hurt with creating allies in future endeavors. But I'm of the opinion that there shouldn't be future endeavors like the one's we've been involved in the last 20 years. My biggest concern regarding foreign policy is that our adversaries will be emboldened (i.e. China/Taiwan) that could pull us into the future endeavors I would prefer to avoid.
Do you have any other card to play? Any one at all? Biden is POTUS he owns this withdrawal 100% it’s HIS plan.
all I could point to is that guidance from State was that there was no rush and that the mass evacuation was yet to come (per comments from administration that they didn't want to do a large evacuation first since it would signal lack of faith in the Afghan govt/military.
I'm not a military mind, but wouldn't you think it would have made sense to pull out the civilians and Afghan helpers before any military left?Would have been identical because he would be getting the same bad info that Biden did. In fact, it was that same bad info that caused Pompeo and Trump to make the deal they made.
You do not understand the point.
Forget the merit of the criticism. The point is that the usual players would be taking the position opposite to the one they are taking if the tables were turned.
BS.
If Trump pulled the troops out before the us citizens got out I would be just as pissed and done with him.
This crap handling at its highest level.
yet if they look to the embassy and State on what to do and they are told there's no rush that clearly factors into the assessment of how stupid they are
