Would have been identical because he would be getting the same bad info that Biden did. In fact, it was that same bad info that caused Pompeo and Trump to make the deal they made.

they had a different set of conditions than those utilized by Joe

maybe it would still be as bad a cluster but this isn't merely the result of "bad info".

Given Trump put a mark on the wall for May this year it is reasonable expect it would have been even worse if he tried to make that date.

Anybody with even half common sense living in a third world country where extremists are taking over the country in record time should know to leave.

Was the Embassy saying flat out not to leave?

our administration didn't have the sense to see extremists were taking over the country in record time...

I don't know the particulars and nor do you; however it's clear the official message from the administration was that there was plenty of time to get out. Not hard to imagine that some took that to heart and believed what they were being told.

So why are there thousands of US citizens still trying to get out?

Anybody there not on official state business was and is not the responsibility of the military. They are there on their own accord.

There is valid criticism about state and DoD people left behind without adequate protection and resources.

But now we have a large contingent trying to get out. That doesn’t mean some weren’t able to get out and chose not to.

Because they didn't take personal responsibility for their own safety and GTFO a year ago when Trump announced we were leaving.
So did we forget to tell our allies we were leaving too? Why were the Brits and French and who knows how many other allies left out of the information loop? You can't blame this on Trump because Biden and his merry band of millennial **** ups are responsible.

who knows? The Taliban wasn't in control of as much of the country then and if the withdrawal was handled differently it could have been considerably less chaotic.

Given the May deadline was not adhered to by Biden it shows they already changed the terms of the withdrawal. Between Pompeo and Blinken I'm pretty confident the terms would be tougher under the former.

But you aren't mad at him for handing over 5000 taliban fighters including one of the current leaders all to secure an Afghan Peace Accord that didn't F#cking include Afghanistan?

Why put words in my mouth?

Personally, I have a kill em all and go home mentality. I don’t believe in occupation at all on any level as that is not militaries job. You complete the mission and kill the leaders and leave.

I am not a fan of hardly any handling of foreign affairs in my lifetime including Reagan, Bush and Trump.

But this is whole other level screw up.

There are screw ups that are included in books and then there are scree ups that books are written about.

This will have multiple books written about it.

EXCLUSIVE: Son of exiled Afghan president Ashraf Ghani REFUSES to comment on unfolding crisis - as it's revealed he's an economics professor living a quiet life in a $1.2 Million Washington, DC townhouse with his Democrat Powerhouse Wife

  • Tarek and his wife Elizabeth Pearson make quite the power couple. She is Senator Elizabeth Warren's legislative director
His Afghan government leader father reportedly fled Kabul in a helicopter stuffed with $169million in cash and four cars - but Tarek Ghani leads an altogether different existence as an economics professor residing in one of America's most genteel neighborhoods, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Life for the 39-year-old son of exiled Ashraf Ghani could not be more different to the horror unfolding on the streets of the Afghan capital where the Taliban are beginning to exert their rule of terror and killing.

He and wife Elizabeth Pearson own an immaculate $1.2million red-painted town house just a mile from the Capitol building in a charming Washington DC enclave, its patchwork of streets lined with trees and other similar upscale properties.

The administration should have been more forthright. I’ll agree with that.

But these people could have left before they were trapped.

But he is trying his best to, isn’t he?

Meanwhile every NATO country now has ops going on to get there people out. Looks to me no one, including our own allies and our own people, saw him pulling out this way.

I'm not arguing that they couldn't have or shouldn't have - just pointing out that what they were being told (by the most authoritative source they had access to) that there was no urgency.

It's like a 3rd base coach waiving you in and telling you to walk in standing up then shouting "slide, slide!". (adapted from Bill Burr)

There is a lot of “ifs” and “who knows” being thrown around here while skewering Biden.

I’ll concede he screwed the pooch. No doubt. And this is bad. And it isn’t defensible.

But there is a lot of hindsight 20/20 being spewed here too.

And yet - he still beat the other guy. Imagine how bad he was if this character is in the Oval Office.
I think people that voted for him should think about the old saying "Throwing out the baby with the bath water."

I can't imagine being proud of voting for Biden and because of Trump. :)

Sure but the Trump would have screwed it up just as bad or worse narrative is the epitome of what you are complaining about. No one knows. It's 100% "if's" and "who knows".

NOBODY IS SAYING WE SHOULDNT HAVE LEFT WE ARE ALL LAMENTING THE US MILITARY ALL GETTING IN A SINGLE CLOWN CAR AND DRIVING AWAY AT MAXIMUM SPEED

^^^ dont do this anymore my brothers. Its been said a dozen or more times here. Only bored trolls with nothing better to do in their lives faking poorly ignorance of the OBVIOUS at this point...exactly ZERO folks have said that we shouldnt leave that sheithole.....

Went to dinner and had a few drinks with my brother and a friend he went to school with, served three tours in Afghanistan before being medically retired before his fourth.

He's pissed. For the record he hates Trump and voted for Biden. I'm sure most of this isn't need to anyone and had been covered elsewhere but here are some points he made.

States it was common knowledge to anyone who served alongside the Afghan's the majority would join back with the Taliban if they left. Says if intelligence says they believed otherwise they are lying.

The withdrawal as it played out was counter to basic military concepts, it has civilian written all over it. If brass signed off on it those who did should never see another day in uniform.

Says if we are going to get our people out were going to need special forces en mass which is a bad situation for them.

He said plenty more but those are the cliffs.

This is why Joe and Hoe will not send out our S.F. units from the airport to rescue the 100s to thousands of Americans still trapped outside the blockade or even Kabul....Joe will not put US soldiers in a position where a firefight and,/or ambush could occur because the blame is HIS for every single bit of this. Hopefully there arent too many US men, women, girls and boys being raped, tortured and murdered as we speak. Some will never ever be found, count on that. Bet the media sweeps all that under the rug though in the US. The BBC and other UK media will not.

The Taliban fundraiser, who also has links to Al Qaeda, has a $5million bounty on his head but was cheered on the streets of Kabul before he led prayers at the city's biggest mosque.

Haqqani is now an integral part of the Taliban's moves to set up a government and he had armed escorts as he entered the religious building.
