He's assuming they won't be able to maintain them. They might not but there is a possibility they might be able to, we sell BHs to a bunch of countries.

I’m not assuming it - SIGAR is, and is the source of 1vol8 graphic he posted.

All it takes is to flip a few techs from the Afghan army to maintain them. I would bet my right arm that’s already done.

According to SIGAR in the article I posted the ANA was having issues keeping up with maintenance with us on the ground helping. I don’t know how/why that would get better when we are gone. Maintenance is done a lot of the time by U.S. contractors.

The other issue is availability of spares, which won’t get any better now that we are gone.

I would bet that these things are non-op in a few months, but anything is possible I guess.

A lot of contractors around the world are simple mercenaries. Consider all the plants built, technology exchanged, and weapons sold by the French and Germans in particular (Swiss, too) ... they sell their souls for a dollar. No reason to think that there aren't plenty of contractors able to maintain that equipment if we are just reasonable enough to keep sending the Afghans money ... in addition to the stuff we left that's available for scrap or to be cannibalized.

You have much higher view of the Afghan Army's ability than literally anyone else on the planet. I doubt a single one has seen the PM technical manual, let alone been trained with any competence needed to service the helicopter .

I'm sure on the off chance that they could get a single UH-60 mechanic - it'd go over like a fart in church if one of our allies sold a single screw that fit the BH to the Taliban.

Sure...because our allies have done such a stellar job of not supplying countries with equipment, supplies and materials for the manufacture of nuclear weapons. I'm sure they're going to be really concerned about supplying a screw for a damn helicopter.

I can respect that. Good post.

20 years of training and you’re still that naive to believe that no one can work on those choppers? Lol. You guys are as dumb as Joe Biden believing the Taliban couldn’t take control. No wonder you agree with him so often.

Not many US soldiers can work on the electronics in those things.

"choppers"

Whatever you say Rambo, you couldn't even tell the difference between an Apache and a Black Hawk.

Not sure what nonsense you're on about agreeing with Biden. Where've I done that?

Or is that your deflection and redirection go to; just make claims an hope no one notices?

This is another head scratcher. Stop incoming measles cases, but leave the southern border open for covid. Our government is not on our side.

Measles Cases Halt Afghan Evacuee Flights from Two Key Bases

U.S. Customs and Border Protection made the decision on the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to halt the flights from U.S. bases in Germany and Qatar, according to a U.S. government document seen Friday by The Associated Press. The document cited unspecified “health safety concerns."

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the temporary halt stemmed from discovery of measles among four arrivals in the United States.

The Iranians managed to keep their F-14 fleet up and running 30 years after our embargo including 10 of those years on a wartime footing.

Those that need to adapt can and will find the parts they need.

That is a really good point.

I still feel like Iran has a more centralized government than the Afghans and the process for logistics, procurement, training, etc...needed to keep these helo's running for multiple years is probably out of reach. Outside of Kabul and the major cities it is the wild west in Afghanistan. Not even sure what they have as far military procurement for a national army.
