Tee Martin for QB coach.

Do we have a cap on the amount of coaches we can have? And you can't tell me after seeing the QB performance from this last season that a dedicated specialist wouldn't have helped.

It appeared to me we certainly could use all the help on the offensive side of the ball we could get

Yes, there is an NCAA cap on the number of on-field coaches you can have. There always has been.

And before anybody brings it up, "on-field" mean able to work directly with players in games and on the practice field, evaluate practice and recruiting film, and to make contact in recruiting.

Only if he gave a public apology to the media for stiffing us the first time in front of Neyland... then I would take him and use him for recruiting.

If you don't still have love for T you are doing it wrong. HE WON US A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. let that sink in. HE WON US A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Don't be mad he didn't come back to Knoxville to coach. Y'all need to chill. Did I mention HE WON US A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP? I was upset when he didn't return too but looks like our WR coach is going well plus are we really sure T is that good of a coach? Doesn't seem like it to me. I'm so grateful to T for the fact that HE WON US A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP why is that not enough for you people.

Problem is we don't know if Butch offered him equal what he was making or Kiffin offered him a raise.

But at equal pay, it would be hard to convince the family to uproot once again for the third time.

To me, having a dedicated QB coach for our younger players far outweighs the supposed slight he gave us before this season. Especially a player like Tee that knew how to scramble and pass. And snagging him up before another program got their meat hooks in him would be a wise move.

At equal pay it would be a raise considering taxes CA vs TN.

I don't blame Tee, just because he is a Vol alumni does not obligate him to coming back if he choses not to.

However, in my household my career comes first since that is what puts the majority of the bread on the table and has higher earning potential so the wife and kids would have to (and have) deal with it should I chose to move for work. The wife's career excuse doesn't hold water with me.

I'm not picking on volinbama, but I really don't agree with him or several others who've posted attitudes like this. Not at all.

This from the Los Angeles Daily News among other news outlets: "Martin, the quarterback of Tennessee's 1998 national championship team, was offered a similar position with the Volunteers. But sources said Martin declined the offer because Tennessee could not match his USC salary ..." among other reasons.

Loyalty to Tennessee has not one single thing over a man, any man in any position, making the best money he can to provide for his family.

Tee, or you, or me, would be using poor judgment in providing the best for our families if we took jobs at a significantly lower salaries just to stay in Tennessee.
It would be foolish.

Does anyone really want a coach who shows that poor judgment regarding his family coaching at UT. I don't!

But Tee did in fact make the right decision for his family and I would welcome him back anytime if he's made an offer by UT that he feels would be in the best interest of himself, Toya, Kaden & Cannon.

Good luck and God bless Tee and his family.

I Understand the hard feelings but I am over it. I would be more than happy to have him as a coach.

I wonder what Casey Clausen is doing...

I don't know, but if it doesn't include coaching his alma mater then his VFL card needs to be revoked.

All former Vols not coaching at UT that are coaching elsewhere need to have their VFL status revoked

j/k

The salary difference is because of inflation in LA which is huge. If UT offered close to the same money, UT's money is worth more because of cost of living.

Since our O Coordinator is our QB coach, we'd need to eliminate another position coach. Ain't going to happen.

UT offered Tee a lateral move for less money, while The Cincy Gang got large pay bumps. It was not an attractive offer and did not show genuine interest. If CBJ really wanted Tee, Tee would be here.

I wasn't aware that the details of the Tee negotiation were ever available. Before you trash a guy who led this school to a NC, you may want to make sure you are not basing your opinions on speculation. I'm not convinced that for his own reasons Jones didn't really want Tee and that the effort to work something out with him was not as generous as was reported. I would prefer to give Martin the benefit of any doubt.

False. UT offered him a substantial raise from what he was making. USC agreed to match it.

I realize this has been blasted out there, but the money situation shouldn't of had nothing to do with his decision if you Love the University of TN! With that being said Tee had his chance
and so did Jay! They both decided to go with Colonel Sanders and Lame Kiffin! They should both have their VFL status removed! Whats $50k more when living Southern Cali? Nothing because the cost of living sucked that up! JMO

Does anyone know if Tee can coach? Seriously, is he student of the position and capable of seriously improving talent?

Bajakian coaches offense and QBs. I would rather have someone that can focus just on our QBs

OK, one more time, if you want somebody that just coaches quarterbacks, then what staff member are you going to get rid of to hire a QB coach?

Tee made a bad business decision. That doesn't erase his Vol past. Some people love to be drama queens.

That said, we don't have an opening. It is what it is. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.

People don't grasp the concept that the NCAA only allows for a certain number of coaches.

Well ...duh ...from

Inflation in LA is not huge

https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF8&q=inflation in Los Anglels

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is less than 1% over the past 12 mo.

But! Cost of Living Index is another story and always has been.

Cost of Living Comparison: compare Knoxville, Tennessee to Los Angeles, California

A salary of $100,000 in Knoxville, Tennessee should increase to $159,202 in Los Angeles, California. I used $100,000 to get a direct % increase which is 59.2 % more to live in LA.

Tee's salary at KY was $205,000. Increase that by 59% ($120,950) and just to take a lateral salary move from KY to UCS they paid him about $326,000.

UT can not pay a position coach that much.

But the change is not because of inflation, it's the cost of living differential, which exists between any two locations, anywhere.

I knew it was much higher, even back in the mid '70's engineers would turn down jobs in California with salaries that seemed outrageous.

Since USC is a private school, they can not be required to publish their coaches salaries. But you can bet that if the money had been right, Tee would have come to Tennessee.

All you howling 'but, but, but, it's TENNESSEE and he ain't got no loyalty!' ... that's just goofy:crazy: Stop embarrassing yourselves.
