Not my call. I'm just saying you don't offer a guy with a good job a lateral move with an unimpressive pay bump and expect him to rush cross-country and take it. IF Jones really wanted Tee, there were ways to sweeten the deal.

Here is the problem for a lot of folks. Tee paraded around talking about how he would like to come back to TN. We hire a new coach and the coach reaches out to Tee and offers him a job. Tee jumps on a plane with the family and makes a celebrated visit back to UT and puts the fanbase and media in a frazzle. Then he jumps on a plane flies back to California and says thanks but no thanks UT.

Its a slap in the face to the fanbase and the University on how he handled this. If he wanted to stay there why did he not just politely tell Coach Butch Jones in a private conversation.

Instead he puts on this show and stays with a team that the HATED coach jilted UT after one year, had his assistants at the UT offices trying to turn kids to USC before he left, etc, etc.

That folks is not VFL and you can spin it anyway you like.

Ol Lane is smiling somewhere back in Calipornia!

It's really amazing how some people think they should just be able to dictate what everyone else should do. Yeah, forget your family, Tee, forget your career, come coach at Tennessee... Maybe, just maybe, Tee Martin is a well-balanced person who has proper priorities and who puts his life, his career, and especially his family above Tennessee football. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Tennessee football, but if it came down to my wife or football, I'm choosing the wife. Tee has a great deal where he's working. He's coaching great WR's who will help him move up to OC or HC a lot sooner than if he came and coached a bunch of freshmen and sophomore receivers here.

I agree with OP that Tee is definitely not VFL. Bottom line = he chose Kiffin over UT. No VFL chooses Kiffin over UT. I could understand taking the USC job with the Dooley situation. Absolutely no problems there. But now...no excuses, and this bullcrap about "I made a commitment to the players"...give me a break. So apparently he didn't make any commitments to UK players, right? Whatever.

Hey I dont mind that he decided to stay. Like I said in my post before it is how he handled it is what is the rub.

He could have made a simple decline by phone.

When you have a family oneday maybe you will understand. You can't always just uproot them everytime you get an offer. I respect the fact that Tee is committed to his his players. It's a rare quality these days and makes him even more a VFL ...even tho he's coaching another team. How many coaches out there coach against their alma mater?? Do you think that makes them any less loyal to that program? Business is business bro!

Actually, Tee has said-- repeatedly-- that he is very happy at USC and is building something special there. He has not been saying he wants to come back to TN. In fact, he's been saying the opposite-- that he loves L.A. and his family is very happy there. It would have taken more than UT offered to get Tee here, especially since Kiffin offered Tee a job last year when UT would not.

tee still has family in the area - his visit had been planned; not a lot people knew that but it was all over ainge's show and basilio's show earlier today. a lot of what happened was circumstantial.

he brought us a national title - he owes nothing more!

OK let's just say I was Wil Muschamp at Florida (nauseous to think about) and I called Tee the next day and said "Tee--I'll pay you 2 to 3 million and give you a co-OC title". I think it's possible that Tee strongly considers and even accepts...oh it's not possible...but it could happen. Again..it depends on your priorities in life and what you are willing to take a chance on....I'm not hating on Tee..he's still a Tennessee hero IMO and will always be one.

He came to Knoxville just to give it a look because it was the right thing to do and decided to keep the good job he already had in a place where he's comfortable. It happens all the time.

And it's not just us. Two years ago, UGA did a full court press to lure Kirby Smart back home and that didn't work either. Sometimes the timing just isn't right.
