Tennessee Lady Vol News

That is the problem she has been playing badly the last couple games. I can go either way with her and Puckett. I just like that Puckett can step out and make the three. I was concerned about her rebounding then she comes out and pulls 10 so that concern is no longer a problem.

We need Puckett off the bench to give minutes for the 4 and 5 and at times the 3 position.

Fortunately she is versatile enough she can do that. I was impressed with her minutes at the 5 the other night. Obviously Arkansas just doesn’t have the size, but Sarah was a presence in there.

Size is little excuse and Keyen is the best person to drive that home. She’s smaller than Sarah but because of her heart and explosiveness she was a great 5. So explosive her poor knees couldn’t handle it.

Correct. And that’s why the transition for the team shouldn’t be AS bad but of course Keyen is a seasoned player(it sucks so bad we lost her) but Puckett offers more versatility in her skillset and a bigger body. If she can continue to hammer on the glass, understand angling, and take shots wisely we could see her emerge during the postseason and be even more surprising than she has been

Ha!!!!!!! So you think he's not preparing just a teeny bit for Tennessee during a week they play Providence, Creighton and Butler? You're funny.

Do you still (somehow) believe Westbrook won't start Sunday? Funnier still!
Of course they will have a Tennessee game plan all prepared. But what I said was that he won't be able to put anything special for Tennessee. They don't practice the day after a game so there is no time to practice. And unless there is an injury to a guard, E won't start.

That ain’t right. If that’s how this game plays out, where Kellie pushes to run from the git go, intentionally to wear them down, I’d be willin’ to grant a Covid asterisk. Really.

Willin’
I promise you that Kellie and Rae want the You Con game bad enough they will move Heaven and Hell to win. Lady Vols by 7.

Yeah, she seems like her head isn’t in the game.

Defense will shut down You Con. We win the boards. Horston, Key, Rae get their points, Tess hits a couple of threes, and Sara does all that she does. Turnovers? Probably at least 14. No biggie. Lady Vols win by 7.

Rae is a good defender. Last season, she shut down Rhyne Howard when UK played us at home.
And Paige Bueckners really struggled against her for 3 and 1/2 quarters, but then again, I thought Paige was overrated personally. Only great shot she had in the game was the 3 near the end to put the game out of reach.

Agree. Caitlin Clark is the best damn player this season. She’s going to get overlooked because her team is not top ten.

DD is headed to Phoenix. I hope this will be a good fit for her! She really worked on her game last season. I felt bad she got bumped out of the Sky’s rotation. Copper just improved so much and played so hard it was hard for them to get DD minutes. With the Phoenix she’ll have a better opportunity to carve a role for herself.

I would think that the recent stretch of opponents (Butler at 1-17 or Providence at 9-11) gave UConn plenty of time to look ahead in their schedule and prepare if they felt it necessary.

You can think that. But the reality is the team will practice on Feb 1. and not practice again Feb 8. Then play Villanova on the 9th. That's the frustrating thing for the coaches. The team has no time to practice and someone is always getting hurt so they can't develop any consistency.

I figured we'd see some changes on the Sky roster just to many players making huge money for what the league pays for some players to not be able to return.

Well scratch that post. Butler can't fly to Connecticut for tonight's game. Tonight's game is officially canceled per the UConn Blog. That means UConn will be practicing today and Saturday with Tennessee on their mind.

Pressure is on CONN.

Their fans are rabid about beating TN, there's the Westbook saga, we are the only ranked team left on their schedule, TN is struggling while they have Fudd back, it's their home game while we've on a road swing, etc.

Meanwhile, to paraphrase Wino, CONN has become "just another team." It wouldn't matter who is up next, we'd still be facing the challenge of rebounding from this mid-season slump. After losing to Auburn and Florida, we don't have any real prestige to lose. But CONN sure doesn't want to lose to a wounded team who just lost to two unranked SEC teams. That would also accentuate the difference between BE and SEC competition.

Really great presser from Kellie today. Really like where her head is at. She’s very team oriented and well spoken. Does a fabulous job answering questions about specific players by discussing it in the context of the team; rather than giving anything away about her personal thoughts or desires for any one player. I appreciate that so much from her, someone we can learn from, myself included.

And those huge blue eyes staring into the camera when she’s let them drift off are haunting. Totally different from Pat. Not the steely stare through fixed eyes we were all so familiar with.

There is something analytical and a little scary about Kellie’s gaze. Wouldn’t want it fixed on me for too long if I was in trouble, that’s for sure. You can’t read a dang thang on her face but you can tell for darn sure something is going on behind those eyes. Love it.

Florida at Georgia, Ole Miss vs LSU means there will only be two three loss teams in the SEC after this weekend. Our next two games being at home against Missouri and Vanderbilt we have a huge chance to solidify our second place in the SEC position in the next two weeks.
