Tennessee Lady Vol News

I was kidding/doom casting. Kea headed to the W.

Can you not grad transfer for free anymore, like Franklin did?
You can, which is why I presume that Powell has the option to go play for another school if she desires. SC had a transfer from Texas who grad transferred to So Cal this season.

Speaking of which, does Rickea graduate this year? I didn't think you could get a degree without earning a certain # of credits at that school. Did she have enough time to meet this criteria?

Jackson to WNBA. Horston to WNBA. Suarez doesn't come back, Walker and Franklin out of eligibility. Key retired from basketball takes a position on Kellie's staff. Rennie back to Australia. Powell Grad Transfer to another school; Wynn and Miles transfer out.

Returnees Striplin, Hollingshead, Puckett, Darby, and Pissott with walk on Edie returning. Scholarships available 10.

I can't imagine Miles/Wynn transferring unless Kellie gets someone pretty damn good at their positions from the portal. They will play a ton out of necessity.

If your scenario comes to fruition, basically need to get 4 starters (PG, SG, SF, and C) from the portal.

She will have to recruit over them from the portal or it will be her last year at Tennessee. Probably could be her last year anyway, but they can't have major roles on the team unless they suddenly get a lot better. They could get a lot better neither did from freshman to sophomore.

Probably not due to missing a semester at MSU last yr. She's reportedly a good student but I doubt she was that far ahead

Powell has always said 2 yrs, if it changed I haven't heard that. Man if she leaves that really makes next yr interesting at PG.

But I can't get to 7 without her - Rickea, JH, Key, Franklin, Walker, and Jessie R. Who am I forgetting?

Also, it is very possible to go thru the ceremony and then return. Fulky did it multiple times LOL.

I really think if medically cleared Key returns, to us, not NC. She's not WNBA ready IMO and I can't imagine she wants her career to end the way this year ended.

NC State, Duke, SC ? if she transfer

Latest bracketology has us in a potential round of 32 matchup with Duke.

The heat on Kellie would be tremendous if we got bounced from the tournament by Kara

Looks like it, because her senior post was just put on Instagram.

In her Senior Day story, Maria Cornelius really hammered the point home that participation in senior day activities is not to be taken as a decision having been made in regard to returning or leaving. The gist is that everyone feels like players should not be worrying about making that decision until AFTER the season, not in February, so it is understood that any senior across all sports can enjoy the festivities and still decide to come back later.

My guess (and hope) is that Powell comes back. I also have high hopes that Marta comes back. I don't see Jessie coming back, and it would be incredibly shocking if either Horston or Jackson came back, although I get the feeling their hearts are going to be pretty torn up over the decision if they end up leaving unfinished business.

Tamari? There's just no way to predict what will happen without knowing her medical prognosis. It would be stunningly wonderful for her to stay and for Teonni to join her, but I certainly won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Despite the fact it would likely make Tamari's mother very, very happy if she could get her daughter back home for her last season (if she does play again), but something tells me that won't happen.

All this rambling to say that the only two definites to leave are still Walker and Franklin, and I imagine they'd both stay if they had another year of eligibility! They'll both receive thunderous applause at the ceremony.

I could be wrong but if that is the roster that returns for TN then i don`t see how KJH survive. We are now talking Mizzu, Vandy level ?

We'd have to see who she added to those five. Hollinghead and Pissott seem like they could be very good players next season. Jill is already very good. She would have to add three to four quality type players from the portal. She added two this past season. Franklin should've sit out she never had the mobility she had at Missouri State. Your basically trying to find elite guards and a backup post.

Schedule like Tony Vitello 38 homes games and 18 road games. Plus if your not sure how your team is going to play don't schedule 8 top ten teams in one season. Schedule about three and five other teams. Your sitting at 23 and 4 just by doing that even if you lose to all three top ten teams. The people who do the ratings have no idea of what the difference is between one win and another. Half the top ten on the current AP ranking haven't played any top ten teams.

I agree on Franklin. I think she would have done better if she gave it a full year. I think she has seemed discouraged the last few games which is frustrating. She was one of our best rebounders most of the season but never earned more minutes and now her production seems to have dropped off.

How about together? Key at 5, Jill at 4? The presence of each should make the other alot better.

I'm wishcasting a Key who is healthy and improved.
If Key comes back were dynamic at center. People don't seem to understand how good Key is. What you saw this year isn't Key it was a sick person trying to play. If we have Key back next season the job gets far easier. Jill and Tamari along with Striplin gives us a solid post game. In that scenario we need some very good guards three or four of them and maybe one elite wing. Then lighten up the schedule some and your a top ten team.

Biggest issue is defensive quickness. We really need to get a couple quick 5’10-6’0 guards out of the portal. Ole Miss has attracted a lot of those and it’s primarily for defense. Has worked really well for them on that end of the floor.

I think it's safe to say we'll be served way, way more cupcakes next year. Said before, the schedule overreach was the first and original sin for this season. So far, we've never recovered.

Look where we are, hoping against hope that Powell actually returns so we can have yet another player who will need to vastly and magically improve over the summer. Describes the whole returning roster, maybe outside of Jill, who only needs to improve moderately, not vastly.

Nothing has trended in a hopeful direction this year. It could still happen, but it would be against all existing evidence.

Yes guards is what we need. We need this this year we need them next season.

I'm not really hoping Powell returns if she does maybe she will be better. What she has been able to do this year gives me no reason to be concerned as to whether she returns or not. If we can't find some guards much better than her or anyone we have now were in huge trouble anyway. If I were really hoping for someone to return it would be a healthy Key and Horston to forgo the WNBA. We would still need some elite guards, but those two returning would lighten the load of who we have to get in the portal. That would cut it to about four or five players most of them need to be elite guards.

Kellie’s job security is more than fine. Lot of pot stirrers on here.
Each to his own opinion, but you don't have to be a "pot stirrer" whatever that is, to see that the outlook for KJH to have more than middling success took a major blow this year, and looks worse next year. Since every shred of available evidence is in that direction, I don't think that's even a controversial opinion.

In spite of every current trend, you could actually be right about KJH job security. As many have long suspected, returning the LVs to elite status may not be a priority for UTAD.

It would've worked out better if the schedule hadn't been so ambitious. LSU shows you how to do it one loss against the only top ten team they have played and yet they are number five and three in the NET. Yes I think we could beat them on our home court.
This year UT definately could have beaten LSU at home. By next season, when LSU visits UT, I would expect LSU will be stronger and deeper. Nobody knows yet what UT will look like next year, but odds are heavy they will be outgunned by Mulkey in 2024.

I'd love that, but realistically even then we would be last year's late season team. We would struggle alot of times to score unless Horston finally becomes consistent and Key improves on offense and with mobility. Truthfully, if not for Rickea's consistent scoring this year we'd be midpack SEC at best and def struggling to make the tourney.

They could out gun everybody in the SEC next year if all the SC seniors leave. A lot depends on the portal adding a big freshman class is great, but she still need a couple of elite portal players to go with Reese and she will have a challenger in the SEC.

Not just those two coming back, but two or three elite players we don't know about now. I am quite certain Rickea is not coming back. Jordan 50-50 if Key could play.
