Tennessee Lady Vol News

Cora asks the hard questions. We're lucky to have her.

What happened was they quit taking the middling players out of hs and tried to hold out for elites. Which is a decent philosophy, but you then have to land the elites. Which they just haven't done. Have come close, no cigar. Thank goodness for the success of the portal, but you can't live by portal alone.

They better sign a strong 2025 hs class.
Need 2-3 HS a year to sustain. Portal is low hanging fruit that’s allowed middle of the pack programs parity. Portal has allowed us to tread water for the moment, but we’ve seen at any time we can go under fast.

The transfer portal is not low hanging anything.. Tennessee recruiting starting with landing Kaniya Boyd, Nyla Brooks, and Finley Chastain builds the foundation for the future.
Still, the portal is a a primary recruiting tool as is high school.
9 of our 14 players (including Cooper) on the roster are portal. Low hanging fruit

Did I make the post of these players on Twitter? No.
You just can’t discredit their rankings and accolades, so the reality of the situation has you coming off real disturbed.
If they were committed to another school you would be one of the first ones talking about how they picked another school over Tennessee.
The way you people obsess over what someone else supports is weird.

Twitter is a cesspool of nimrods,.
I'm sure you're a valued and loyal tweeter or whatever you call the process.

In conclusion I hope they achieve great things at Tennessee just don't see putting their names out there as great as Parker, Holdsclaw, Catchings and others before they ever step foot on court in college..

But you do you have a nice evening😎

I just hope these 3 future Lady Vols live up to the hype.

Winners Circle already has these young ladies as 1st Team All Americans and generational talents.

That's quite a lot to live up too!!
JMO Brooks is the real deal with a shot at All American she seems to have the complete game and skill set to be a really great player. Boyd has the speed you desire and handling skills. Have to see how she develops and more about her shooting skills in highlights she makes them all:) Cooper was highly regarded know she has everything except we'll need to see what her offensive game looks like. Certainly can defend and handle hopefully she is refining that offensive game. She is not going to be a three point shooter more get to the basket and mid-range. She has a lot of potential hopefully we see it develop. I'm not calling any of them generational talents not to many of those now or ever. They are certainly of a higher grade of recruit than we have seen at Tennessee in the past few years other than Jackson and to some extent Horston. I think Brooks is top ten in her class. Cooper was ranked sixteen in her class and Boyd as high as 25 now at 34. Hoopgurlz is good at determining the top 20 players most of the time in their classes. After that they can have hits and misses for the rest of the list. We need post players and continue to add speed and quickness like these three players possess.

I see what you’re saying.. but it’s incomplete without a mention of Finley Chastain. Chastain has already been ranked in the Top 10 of her class in early projections.
Brooks should be a Top 10 prospect in her class by the summer. We’ll see.
Boyd is the best defensive guard in 2024. Played at a good basketball program in HS. I’ve watched her games and she’s a team first star.
Never tried to put up big individual stats..and have social media status like some players from the 2022-2024 classes. And already possess the poise and skill to play at the college level in the SEC.
Has the presence and “it” factor. Boyd should’ve been Top 20 in that class. I seen a player go from 21 to 10 just for attending camps and playing on a certain AAU team. Boyd did the opposite, committed early, didn’t compete in a lot of AAU circuits, and didn’t attend individual prospect camps much prior to her senior season so they dropped her rankings.
Any recruiting service at the end of day has certain connections and runs like a business.
So when certain people enter their projections based on evaluations from certain camps it benefits some players and leaves out others.
T. Coop will make a name for herself again as she did in HS in the SEC. 2021 South Carolina Player of the Year, meaning she was at the top of the list of all HS players in the mighty state of SC lol.
Get your popcorn ready. I stamp that! Lets GBO🍊.

She is a long way off. She will be a freshman when Cooper and Boyd are Seniors and Brooks a junior. So she won't play with these players much. I'll get to her when her time comes. These players time is now or soon.

Not about if she’s going to play with them or not, it’s the fact HC Coach Harper and the AD Danny White have both spoken with Finley about being a part of the program when that times comes and she’s a key contributor on her HS basketball team ranked Top 5 in the country that is led mostly by seniors and juniors.

During the off-season, plays 17U/18U. So as a top 10 player in her class regardless of the other current commits and those to come Finley Chastain is certainly as one recruiter and basketball analyst described her “different.”

She plays 18U right now. So as a top 10 player in her classes regardless of the other current commits and those to come Finley Chastain is certainly as one recruiter and basketball analyst described her “different.”
No problem talking about her. She is elite player and I hope by the time she gets here we will be all the way back and Coach Harper will still be here as coach. Cause a lot depends on what happens the next couple years for her to ever get here at all.

Good points. And this is not directed at you. I agree with you.

Truth is, Coach Harper and the program isn’t what or where the NVs perceive it. Now whether a change is made by then or after 2027 who knows.

But the fact is, Tennessee has a tradition like no other program in the country. Tennessee built the foundation of this sport and is/will remain forever on the cover and page 1 of the history books starting with Coach Summitt.

The attendance in games this season has shown a positive sign.
Fans are hungry for the restoration of this great program.

The team has shown some progress since getting healthy.. and has some veteran players returning and upcoming talent to build around for next season already in place in Talayasia and Kaniya before getting to the transfer portal additions.

Now the one thing that Coach Harper can control moving forward that is just as important as recruiting is the non-conference schedule. The team should never again think about playing Team USA in an exhibition before a period of 4 ranked teams back to back to back to back to start a season.

That was not necessary. It put the team at a disadvantage. And it hurt the development of the team.

Being honest, it’s not all about the personnel the staff hasn’t shown the capacity to prepare the team for that kind of March Madness stretch of games in November/December. The staff doesn’t define a rotation until the start of SEC play. You can’t experiment in non-conference play and expect to beat good teams week to week.

Hopefully this has already been looked into and will be handle more reasonable for next season.

She has done a good job with what she had to work with and has started to recruit better. Still Tennessee expects to make the NCAA and right now were hanging by a thread need to keep winning cause I would like to see her get to stay and coach the players we have coming in. If we can add Williams, Hurst, and a couple others were well on our way back to the top ten. I think we'll do fine in the portal again this season.

Where do they “NV” perceive it? Where is the program in 3-4 years? Treading water to save our place at 3rd in a conference that only has 2 ranked teams.

As I’ve said, what she had to work with was the #11 ranked team in WBB to start this season. I’m not putting it solely on the personnel isn’t good enough or the coaching isn’t good enough. The fact is, the non-conference schedule was poorly constructed and that’s not debatable. Schedule differently and we’re having a completely different conversation. That schedule put the team at a disadvantage not just due to the opponents but the traveling, injuries, and week to week recovery/preparation.
The staff had to know the risks and maybe it’s worth the possible reward.. a Top 2 SEC finish is now within a possibility.
Just two ways to look at it.
We’ll see how it goes by the end of February.
