Tennessee - Memphis cancelled

after beating #6 Alabama why would Memphis be suddenly afraid of #18 Tennessee? I don't see the logic there...
Because that Bammer game was at home, backs against the wall and prior to that you had lost to… checks notes… Iowa State, Frikin Georgia, Ole Miss and Murray State…. 😂😂😂. I guarantee more resume crushing losses ( any loss in your trash conference would be aside from Houston). I know y’all are excited to defend your NIT title though! Please keep Penny!

What happened that led to Memphis-Tennessee basketball cancellation

Memphis executive associate athletics director Adam Walker told The Commercial Appeal two Memphis players tested positive for COVID-19. Due to contact tracing, the rest of the team was ruled out due to protocols. A source said an unspecified player woke up Saturday not feeling well and subsequently tested positive. The player's roommate was tested and was also positive.

"We simply didn’t have anywhere near a reasonable amount of players to play," one source said Saturday. "We're talking down to, like, four or five."

the health and safety of the kids during a pandemic is more important than a basketball game. it sucks, but hey. it's just a game.
This is not what I’m talking about. More to be revealed in the coming weeks…….

Suggest you research the data/statistics on the risk posed to the kids

It sucks this got cancelled but I’ll hold off on being ticked off until Tuesday night. If Memphis can’t play Alabama State then we’ll know that aside from the two players who apparently tested positive, Memphis probably falls a fair bit short of “probably 90%” vaccinated players, and all their unvaccinated are in protocol. They’d be in quarantine a bit longer than 3-4 days, right, because that’s still well inside the incubation period for COVID? If Memphis plays Tuesday, they ducked us, because that’ll mean they have enough vaccinated players to play a game, and they did on Saturday, too.

Barnes has already said he will never play Memphis again beyond current committed games.

Then the Admin. should decommit... It is not a good game for UT. When we beat Memphis High, it becomes just another win. When we lose it becomes a GREAT thing for Memphis High. For recruiting purposes, if we beat them, it just makes the Memphis kids want "to circle the wagons" and go to "High" to overcome the big boys over in the east. If we lose to them the kids want on the "wagon" and be part of the team that beats the big boys over in the east.

Some of you guys are REALLY reaching on this one. Look, I despise Memphis probably more than anybody on here because I’ve had to live with their sad fan base down here since 1977. (Only Shelby County Vol fans really understand.) But Memphis really needed to play this game to help their resume and needed to play it much more than we did. I don’t believe they cancelled because they were scared. Once the players tested positive the rest were in contact protocol and they had to make a decision. The rules appear to be interpreted different by teams and conferences and there’s the rub. Can’t explain why South Carolina was allowed/made to play Clemson shorthanded yesterday and Memphis couldn’t. The AAC appears to have no policy and said it is completely up to the team affected. Right or wrong, Memphis made the decision they thought best and I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on it. Now, having said that, I hope this series is over and we never play them in any sport. UT doesn’t need it and we gain nothing from it.

I guess the question I’d like an answer too, is this. Did the the Athletic Department of Memphis State ( or their coach) contact the UT Athletic Department (or coach) to discuss the situation and possible alternatives, or did Memphis State make the decision independent of UT input?

I don’t think we need a constitutional amendment on this. Barnes expressed to White that he won’t play them again. So we won’t play them again. It’s that simple.

So, two were ruled out because they tested positive. 1) Why didn't the rest of the players play? and 2) What happened to make the positive tests on the first two? Did they break any rules in exposing themselves?

I guess this is the 'out partying' theory...if they got exposed to COVID the night before the game it would take 48-72 hours to show positive on a rapid test. so the exposure happened before the Nashville visit.

Because that Bammer game was at home

we sure weren't playing you in Knoxvegas, friend...'name' teams at FedExForum or a neutral site are Memphis' best statistical shot at resume building. Why would we willingly walk away from a golden opportunity if we didn't have to?

Like, I know you guys want there to be some conspiracy but I don't see it.

FF...just so we don't get everyone confused after 17 pages trying to unconfused them. At least two UM players tested positive on Saturday morning. According to NCAA guidance a NCAA team with less than fifty players should consider additional testing and restricted activity if three or more players test positive. Vaccinated players are only tested if they are sytomatic or have come in contact with a COVID-19 positive person. Unvaccinated players are tested three days before competition and on the day of competition.
Claimed positive, of course you believe anything. SAD
