Tennessee QB Harrison Bailey enters NCAA transfer portal

Good luck HB. I hate to see him go, but can’t blame him. Hopefully he will ball out at his next stop. I just hope it’s not another SEC school we have to face.

Be our luck it will be GA and he will become a H Trophy candidate. Likely to beat the hell out of us along the way.

wish him the best - figured this day might come, he can help a team out there who gives him playing time

We had a thread about renaming Neyland Stadium?

What were the suggested new names? Lol...
Piggly Wiggly Stadium. I mean, Kroger works pretty well for KY.

Nah, in reality, the whole thread was one of the best troll jobs I've seen on here in a while. OP was just trying to get a rise out of the board. It worked.

If he can’t win the job here, how is he going to win a job over a bunch of real 5 star talent at Georgia?

To me the type offensive Ga plays better suits his ability. They seem to want/use QBs much like Bama has in the past, game managers, not the gunslinger, jackrabbit type Coach H seems to need in his system.

So you actually think during practice and everything he has shown he is better and better for this team than Hooker?

You “know” he didn’t get a “fair” shake…….and he should be out there instead of Hooker? You “know” Bailey must have proved he was the #1 guy but for some odd reason the coach……..the guy with actual experience evaluating these types of things……says “nah he’s the 3’rd stringer.”

So you really believe that Heupel knows Bailey is better……..but he don’t like his job so much so he going to make him 3rd string instead?

Cause if you “don’t” believe that…….and you do believe that Bailey practiced just like everyone else but he didn’t “prove” himself better or others “proved themselves better……….then Bailey definitely got a “fair shake.” He had the same opportunity as the other guys……….and wound up #3.

I wish the guy all the best. I hope he has a great career; however he could be the starter right now if he was “good enough” right now…….and he ain’t………that’s not a knock on him either……..he simply isn’t or Heupel would play him.
I wonder if you have any remote idea how tired and mindless your argument is? It can be eviscerated simply by two words: Joe Milton.

As in, this infallible coach we have that never could have possibly made a wrong evaluation of a quarterback in practice, chose Milton over Hooker and Bailey both. So the notion that our coach was infallible in his evaluation of Bailey because he saw him in practice, just doesn't hold water. We all saw how horrifically bad Milton was, and Heupel chose him over Bailey and Hooker both.

It's possible that Bailey would not have done well had he gotten a fair shake; but he absolutely did not get said fair shake, just speaking of the far less time he got in games than either Milton or Hooker.

If Milton balled out in practice how do you NOT choose him? I dunno why people keep making excuses for Bailey not winning the job.

You say that as if it makes you feel better.

Maybe he will. I doubt UGA will take him but maybe they will. Either way... he would not have put up big numbers vs UGA had he stayed at UT. UGA has no trouble signing highly rated QB's and that's all he truly is at this point. The chances of him being recruited over at UGA are about as good as him becoming a successful starter there.

UGA is loaded. I think they have 2 hot QB's coming in. One of which is Gunner Stockton, a solid QB commit from up in Rabun Co.

Not the point. The point is that Georgia already has four 5 star QBs either on the roster or committed for next year. How is he going to beat out all that talent if he can’t beat out a far less deep qb room at UT?

Could see Clemson going after him with obvious issues with 5 star bust DJ. Wouldn’t put it past Ole Miss and Kiffin to grab him either

What ultimately made him a non-fit for UT is the same reason he wouldn't work in the Ole Miss scheme. Arkansas might be a good fit. LSU will be loaded at QB after signing day. Brennan will prob have to take his last year somewhere else. UGA would be a good fit, but they have no room or need for him after the upcoming signing days. Clemson's offense would still require dual threat QB. Auburn and GT also might be good spots. Maybe UF.

It isn't impossible. He was 3rd behind Maurer after spring. He did some things and apparently passed Maurer in the fall but was still 3rd behind Milton and Bailey.

It could be system... or maybe he just isn't as good as people thought. I often wondered how much of his success was due to having a monster receiver who would catch anything thrown in his direction regardless of what puny HS kid(s) tried to cover him.

There's alot to that statement. He had good protection at one of the top high schools in GA, with a beast of a receiver on the other end. He didn't have to read a lot of D. He was certainly a fit in Pruitt's Offense, and if he were still coach here, Bailey or Maurer could have just as easily plugged in as Hooker.

Milton should have been 3rd string and on his way out, and no he's not a better runner(or passer) than HB, I don't know what people are watching when they make the claim milton is some kind of runner, BS!
I see the coaches thought the same as you did:rolleyes:

Some of yall are embarrassing with this crush you have on HB. I had high hopes for him but when TWO staffs wont play him...that should tell you something.

And his ridiculous HS stats are indicative of the amount of talent he had around him. Watch the championship game, his last game in hs. His stats were impressive due to his TE that was a true 5 star prospect
When one puts up the stats he did in the highest class in Georgia, he has enough talent to play in College. With any common sense, one can not even suggest he doesn't have talent. I will agree it helps when you have someone who can catch the ball, but most teams playing his his league have receivers who can catch the ball. Our coaches do not believe he can play in their system so he will not play in their system.
To those who say he is screwing us over, you are barking up the wrong tree. He stayed this Fall because he thought/hope he would get his chance. He did was not given that chance. What do you expect him to do when his goal is to play college football? His best chance is to let people know he is willing to transfer and doing that now him gives the best chance of transferring. Based on the information he has gotten about playing at Tennessee, any intelligent person would make the same decision.

To be accurate though, he was a true freshman last year and because of COVID had limited offseason development. Last years staff wouldnt play him over their boy JG because they were the clown brigade. When he played he showed more than JG. Hard to judge him this year based on mop up duty vs Tenn Tech, him not playing this year is more indicative of they style of qb the staff wants more than his skill set as a passer. I have no doubt he will do well somewhere else (it is the UT way) and I hope he doesn’t transfer within the conference

I saw someone asks this elsewhere but who was the last QB to transfer from Tennessee and be good? Nate Peterman?

I don’t think Pruitt would’ve ever offered Bailey in the first place if he didn’t have Arik Gilbert and BJ Ojulari as high school teammates. They were trying for the package deal and whiffed. The guy they really wanted to get that year was Haynes King.
Not offer a high 4* from right down the road, who fits your system?
Right.

I’m not sure why he is doing this now and not 5-6 weeks from now once the season is over. But, good luck to him. Just poor timing for HB with the coaching change and offensive philosophy overhaul, I’m sure he’ll be a great player for another team the next 4 years.

Not a bad move at this point. The portal will fill up with QB transfers at end of season. He's getting out there now to make a good move one time. Waiting buys him nothing at this point.
