Tennessee Slowly Becoming The New Clemson

I wouldn't know about that, a lot of pumpers just hate facts on here is all that's why I jokingly warned him
I haven't seen any sunshine pumpers who 'hate facts'. I've only seen people who really dislike others portraying our team, our program, our players, and our coaches in a negative light. Especially when it's entirely unnecessary.

For instance, let's say--just for argument's sake, no intent to insult you--that your mom is fat, lazy, stupid, and an alcoholic. But at the same time, she is loving and kind. Now if your friends are always talking about how loving and kind your mom is, that doesn't mean that they're blind to the fact that she's also fat, lazy, stupid and an alcoholic. They're just being positive, embracing what's good. Maybe one day one of them broaches the topic of her going to get some treatment to try to beat the alcoholism, and that's a fair and just criticism meant for good reasons, so it is okay. But if one of them ever just started talking about how fat she is, just to be mean, just to "be honest," well we'd all think that person was a jerk.

That's how it is when people unnecessarily talk bad about our program, our players, our coaches, our team.

For instance: in the middle of all that's going great here, all the positivity around our program, someone starts a damn thread about how Pruitt might be the worst coach in our history. Really? Now? Why even bring it up? Yes, yes, this is a fan forum message board, it's meant for having conversations, but why would a Vols fan want to have THAT conversation NOW? Pruitt's gone. Let's enjoy what we've got.

There are enough trolls and fans of other teams here bringing up negative "facts" about our program. We don't need our fellow fans pitching in.

So when nega-vols complain about sunshine pumpers "hating facts," the first thing I think is, "hmm, that's probably a nega-vol who keeps bringing up uncessary trash denigrating our team, and who has been called out on it, more than once." He's the guy calling your momma fat for no good reason.

Go Vols! :)

Same can be said when a sunshine pumper is talking about unrealistic results. Like you said it's nice to hear or read about it but just because some people are being level headed and speaking their opinion too doesn't negate the fact that the level headed person said something factual. But hey you call them negavols 😒 🤔

No, it's not the same.

See, we're here to be fans. Which means fanatics. Fanatics in support of our team. Fanatical devotion to our team.

So bringing up unrealistically POSITIVE things is actually expected. It is "part of the job" of fandom. It is what we expect and enjoy out of each other. It is why so many of us love Nationdom even while we chuckle and shake our heads at some of his over-the-top predictions.

It is being a fan.

So "false positives" are not the mirror image of being falsely negative. One is in the definition of fan-atic. The other is a perversion of it. It is what trolls do. Not fans.

See?

Not yet, but Clemson has benefited from Tennessee’s missteps over the last 10 plus years.
In 2008 Fulmer and Bowden both left their programs.
Clemson hired interim coach Dabo Swinney while Tennessee is on their 5th coach.
Back in 2008 no one considered Clemson to be on the level of Tennessee.
Our misfortunes helped build their dynasty.
A lot of Tennessee’s best recruits went on to play for the orange and purple instead of The Big Orange.
It’s time to right the ship.
CJH has the Vols heading in the right direction while Clemson is unranked for the first time since 2014.
Been saying this for years!!

Christ we win two games against crappy opponents and suddenly we're the second coming of Jesus. Delusions of grandeur.

Hope so, but I have a hard time seeing another program gift wrapping stud QB recruits and dropping them in our laps like we did with Clemson with Boyd and Lawrence....who are literally two of the top 5 qbs in their program's history. Both should have been Vols. I get physically ill every time I think on their recruitments by the head coaching clowns we hired. Robbed of nearly a decade of winning football and who knows how many SEC east/SEC titles.

I'm probably more optimistic than most Vol fans but let's pump the brakes just a tad. We had good seasons under each of the previous staffs and we thought out trajectory was on a permanent upwards trend but despite high ranking recruiting classes success could not be sustained. I WILL say that there appears to be a much different energy with this staff that makes sustained success more likely. The players that stayed and bought in are laying a foundation for future classes and success on the field will lead back to highly rated recruiting classes. Can you imagine this offense with a few top 10 classes?

Whoa whoa whoa, that logic will get you nowhere in here bud. Only coach worship and sunshine pumping is acceptable.

It won't hurt if USCe manages to beat Clemson this year. That opens up some recruiting opportunities that Clemson had a grip on.
Definitely! Need back in the North GA and ATL area where they've been eating. UNC falling off would be nice to open up Charlotte access also.

Idk about us coming back but you’re absolutely right they’ve benefited from our failures as a program. Several legacies and kids that were huge Tennessee fans helped build that program. Several of the regions we traditionally pulled major talent from are now directing them to Clemson.

All of the above. UT used to raid SC regularly for great players too.

I'm not sure how good the program is now but the Vols used to get guys out of Gaffney. The population of SC is not large but the quality of football is really good. Lots of times that's a product of how youth and HS football are organized. I think that hurts TN some. MO where I live isn't loaded with talent but the organization of their schools and HS football aren't conducive to creating great HS competition.

The word fanatic has nothing to do with positivity or negativity. Being fanatical, or even the derivative fan, means possessing extreme interest or zeal for something. A person can be fanatical and positive, or fanatical and negative, or fanatical and neutral, and it's all still fanatical. If someone want to be fanatic about their devotion to Tennessee, they can go right ahead with that, but being a fan doesn't mean a person must adhere to some expected level of positivity.

Being a "fan" is something someone decides personally, for themselves. "I am a fan of [x]." It isn't a status conferred by others. No one has a "job" to do to be a fan. A person might decide they must do something for the sake of their fanaticism, but again, that's a personal choice. There are no standards to meet.

I mean, personally speaking, I think people who wear hunter or other weird non-Tennessee shades of orange to games are heathens and should be cast out from Neyland and sent to the UT shop to buy correctly colored shirts, with a discount coupon if they need financial help because damn some of that stuff is pricey -- but at the same time I think that, I also think it's silly for me to feel that way and I shrug and move on. I think that's how a lot of this ends up, too. Everyone's invested for their reasons. Some make sense. Others make no sense. Some who are negative might be trolls - but some are not. After fifteen years of mediocrity, I can understand a degree of cynicism about the state of the program. Just as long as they wear the right color orange.

I appreciate the optimism, but let's slow down a little bit lol. They have won two national championships in the past 5 years. While they are struggling this year, I do not think they are entering the decline we have been enduring. I do think Clemson is a great example of how QB play can impact a program. This is the first year in a long time they do not have an ace taking the snaps (Boyd, Watson, Lawrence, etc.).
Uiagalelei was a five star recruit and the #8 ranked QB in his class aĺl thought he was an ace.

Were Tennessee, not Clemson. Our history is richer, we have won more games and have more tradition. We have been down, but I can remember when they were down for longer periods of time. Other than having orange on their uniform makes them anything like us. Clemson is a great school I am not knocking, but Tennessee is not the new anything. If anything Clemson caught a break when we were down, but all schools do that from each other from down periods. Just like Jefferson from Arkansas is Cam, I seen the nuts on TV saying there goes Cam. No there goes Jefferson, now I compare players too sometimes but folks take it overboard. They went a entire quarter without calling him his real name. We are who we are, right now we are starting a turnaround but we still have a ways to go. No matter what, we have been to the top before and we will be at the top again and it will have nothing to do with Clemson! Just my thoughts this morning. GBO!!!!!

So, to summarize:

Starting somewhere around 2010, just a year or two after the Vols fell off the deep end into our ongoing Dark Ages, Clemson's star rose. Clemson became the new Tennessee.

And now, today, the reverse may be happening. Tennessee is reclaiming its heritage, just as Clemson sinks back into their ACC corner.

So Tennesee is becoming the new Tennessee. Just like @preacherwebb told us above.

Go Vols!

Tennessee is getting back to being the Tennessee that has produced championships and many wins and many great players. Tennessee is becoming what it is expected to be and it's history says it can be. Hasn't a DAMN thing to do with Clemson. Their history isn't nowhere near Tennessee's. GBO!!!!!
