Tennessee Softball 2023

Any word on transfer destination for Washington pitcher Kelley Lynch ?

As mentioned, despite being a former HSNPOY, she’s a very average player. She is from Georgia and was committed to Auburn before Washington but wound up not going after the Clint Myers fiasco. Wouldn’t surprise me if she goes to somewhere like Oklahoma State, who manages to get an average player or two every offseason and have them ride the pine the following season.

Another example why college coaches shouldn’t be allowed to coach the national teams. It’s an unfair recruiting advantage. If you want to be on the national team or get playing time on it you transfer to the coaches school. That’s why College coaches want to coach the team they know it’s a bonus for recruiting. No different when Walton coached it and got Echos and Wallace as transfers.

Not to mention, college players of those coaches always get special treatment. It’s why Florida grad Aubree Munro was on the Olympic team despite not being able to hit a beach ball into the ocean.

Yet, Kenny has zero problems in getting them to the WCWS, especially the last five or so years.

It upset me greatly that they picked mostly if not all old guard hitters who have not played consistently in years instead of the hot college hitters. The results were exactly what you would expect they didn't hit a lick against the better teams. They did take the veteran pitchers Monica included who did well cause they have pitched consistently in Japan. It was total mismanagement of the roster more worried about paying back the old players instead of picking the best team. Cost Monica a gold medal again.

Yeah that team was nowhere near the best team they could've put on the field. It's a big reason why Ken Erickson stepped aside. USA Softball has always been political but the national team got even moreso under Erickson.

2 things

Arkansas will be the beast of the SEC in 24.

Will be a large drop in homers in 24. Pitchers will absolutely dominate.

LSU is getting one of the top if not THE top hs senior pitchers out of Florida's Pace High school. She's a lefty. Her father was a very good athlete out of Nashville Hunters Lane back in the day. I got weekly clippings from her performances the last 2 years from her family who remain friends of mine. With the Tennessee connections she had I marveled at why UT never seemed to seriously go after her.

LSU has an excellent pitching coach, one of the best in the SEC. LSU has a rep in the south as a place for pitchers. UT does not

Torina is their pitching coach and truthfully LSU spent the last 5 years highly mediocre in the circle since Hoover/Walljasper until Berzon showed up this past season.

I’m not going to call her bad (she isn’t) but I don’t know if I would consider her a pitching guru per say.

I guess Megan Rhodes smith is chopped liver. Best i remember she was a pretty good pitcher in her time!

On the national recruiting scale Megan is not nearly as well known as you may think. Keep in mind her first year at UT was the Covid year and camps were pretty much non-existent, which hurt building the pipeline. Not saying she isn't a good coach, but there are dozens of programs with more well known and established pitching pedigrees. Sorry to taint your orange tinted glasses.
