Tennessee Softball 2025

Agree with your comments but would add it is a leader’s responsibility to make a course correction when you are not meeting your goals.

I have not really seen Karen do that in some of her approaches so at some point the ultimate question will be is AD White happy with the results…
Zero problem with failure analysis, and accurate assessments would probably find potential alternatives to have changed history and kept us in the tourney, but my free speech replies were triggered by serial straw man, go count them, free speech REPRESENTATIONS of acceptance of mediocrity for this staff AND players.

Bet there is a lot of soul searching analysis over those last 2 losses among those that that stepped to the plate and failed multiple times, squandering the best pitching seasonal performances I’ve seen beyond a single ace. But failing approaching the peak does not support mediocrity claims multiple times a day. Yeah, I am with you, DW has this covered and doubt this particular diatribe passes his fan expectations he laid out at his hiring presser.

I would guess that ADDW feels about the same as level-headed fans.

Happy to win the SEC regular season, which is always an accomplishment and the first goal in any sport.

But disappointed at the same time because this team had the pitching to win it all. Watching the hitting completely disappear in the SEC and NCAA Tournaments was painful.

If I was AD, my message to CKW would be “overall good job, but some self analysis is warranted into why the team’s hitting continues to hold it back year after year.”

I couldn’t agree with you more. I don’t think Karen should be fired. I just think she needs to try something new when it comes to postseason coaching. She’s a great coach that I root for to get over the hump every year. She deserves to get a ring but she has to try another flavor of Gatorade or stay in a different hotel before game day. Just try a different approach because what she is doing doesn’t work against great teams in the tournament.
My approach knowing the lack of hitting success would be small ball and surprise plays like getting caught in a rundown between first and second while the runner on third scores. I think AL did this, maybe?

What the heck is mediocre about earning a 3 seed in the NCAA tournament? That means they were judged to be the Third best team in the land. Sorry, no justification for your attack, NONE. Being in the exact middle of the top 5 is what it is.
How about losing at home to an inferior team.

Winner. This is how any effective CEO(AD) would react, pleased with some aspects but highly suggest self reflection and possible change from HC….

What happened during season good, post season not acceptable.

Karen has tried that in the past with no success come tournament time. We need some hitters and lots of them. We don’t need girls that just slap at the ball and hope to beat it out. It doesn’t work against great teams.

Bingo…you nailed it. The game has evolved to be more in line with baseball. You still need good pitching, but pitching alone is not going to carry you all the way.

Tiny girls who try to manipulate their way on base is passe. It’s okay to have one at the top of your lineup, but Oklahoma is showing the new blueprint in today’s game. Bigger, stronger is better.

Faster, as a tool in the bag, will always play.

Oklahoma dropped a drag bunt with Boone a slapper and UCLA had no chance. Next batter up, another slapper in backup 2B Hodge.

I said this in another thread, but in order to make it far in the postseason you need to be dynamic in your offense whether it’s small ball, station to station, or the occasional long ball and quite frankly the lineup that was put out there for a majority of the year wasn’t.

After seeing White in two series have her way, it’s a need. Create havoc and speed does that.

And what won the game for Oklahoma?

Hint: It wasn’t this sequence, which led to nothing.

What beat us in game two vs Bama? If we want to refer as nothing. Your stance was OU has a blueprint….OU has more speed slappers than we do. So it seems we agree, you need speed slappers if we are following OU.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I have no disagreement that fast players are great. And I have no issue with bunting.

But I wouldn’t build my team with any slappers. And I predict that they will be mostly extinct in 10 years.

Didn’t say you had to build it, just need it. And we don’t have it to the degree of Bama and White or OU with Boone. 1-2 in your lineup gives another dynamic to prepare for.

They won’t be extinct as the bases will still be the same and coaches will need players to get down the line the fastest way.

Can you name one program that has had continued success year after year and not had speed in their lineup? That is what makes softball so intriguing to watch is the fast paced nature. You take that away and that is just baseball and tbh that is the type of lineup Karen threw out every day

Please re read my post about speed. I’d just have fast players who can hit and bunt. Not slappers.

I respect that others have different opinions.
