Tennessee Titans sue Lane Kiffin

Can't stand Kiffin and I hate looking like I am defending him but why in the heck is Titans suing him. If their RB coach violated the terms of the contract you sue the coach, not the person hiring the coach. Kiffin nor USC have any obligations to a 3rd party contract. The breach of contract has nothing to do with USC and Kiffin that I can see from the facts given in the articles.

With that said Lame-o still sucks, but I fail to see what a breach of contract has to do with USC.

And on top of that, I don't see how the Titans are going to come up with damages. Anyone wanting to play or coach with Lame-O... I would be like good riddance.

Another victim of the virus.

Notify the CDC.

I don't really think it matters to Fisher or the Titans if they win or lose.. They do not need the money for sure, but I think it is a matter of the way LK went about it... I don't think this will be one of those issues that gets settled out of court..

How do you know that?

There could have been a number of reasons and all you need is one. Not liking the guy is nice easy guess to start with.

And the Titans cutting players without a phone call is not true. Keith Bulluck and Kyle Vanden Bosch's contracts expired and they were unrestricted free agents. Eddie George wouldn't take a pay cut so clearly they talked to him about cutting him.

Please stop making things up about the Titans just because you don't like them.

How do i know that? Its public knowledge. I live in nashville and listen to the raido. Thats the big knock on the titans. They dont contact the players if they have zero intrest anymore. Its been documented all over. They ALL have came forward and said the titans didnt call or would return phone calls. Kinda lame. Especially to veterans!! In fact Keith B came out yesterday and said the titans wouldnt even answer his call!! Please stop talking.

It's not the poster's fault.

Looks like he got the lk virus. Give him a couple of days and he should be fine (after monte's kid opens his trap again).

I could care less if it was kiffin or Tony Dungy. The guy left for more money!!! PERIOD!! And if you even listened to 104.5 the zone today most of the callers were A. calling bc Jeff Fisher wouldnt talk to Keith B or return his phone calls and B. saying jeff got what he deserved and that its business!!

Clearly you don't know the Tennessee Titans. Jeff Fisher has his hands in every aspect of this organization. It's about as close to a one man organization as you'll find in the NFL

If you don't think he was consulted before this suit was filed you don't know anything about the Titans organization. I'm willing to bet large quantities of cash that he was not only aware of the suit, but in favor of such a suit.

Yeah...that's why Vince Young is in a Titans' uniform since Fisher lobbied so hard for him.

It seems like the RB coach might have violated his contract, USC has no obligation to a contract.

Tennessee Titans sue Lane Kiffin, USC over Kennedy Pola hiring - ESPN

Hahah, this is called BUSINESS.

Now I can't stand Lame-o but this is up there will spilled coffee lawsuit.

Totally justified and yet completely misunderstood by a media more interested in an eye-catching headline on a slow news day, and by the pinheads who read it and refuse to actually research the (publicly available) facts of the case?

Whether anything comes out of this or not, this just proves Kiffin does whatever he wants regardless of the rules. Even if this was nothing more than a gentlemens agreement he could have asked for permission first. However, he isn't going to, because he is a spoiled brat. I'm glad he and his arrogant actions are out of UT. So long loser.

Sooner or later, Lame Kittie will run into someone with a leather wallet that reads "Bad Mo Fo" on it...I am a patient man....

it says they're claiming damages through inter alia

... and I'm the only one reading through the actual transcript of the lawsuit aren't I?

I find this somewhat comical. It's an unwinnable case, IMO. Sure it was questionable. But there isn't much that anyone can prove here.

there's also a big note in this thing saying "USC and Kiffin's acts violate Tenn. Code Ann. 47-50-109, which provides that:

It is unlawful for any person, by inducement, persuasion, misrepresentation, or other means, to induce or procure the breach or violation, refusal or failure to perform any lawful contract by any party thereto; and in every case where a breach or violation of such contract is so procured, the person so procuring or inducing the same shall be liable in treble the amount of damages resulting from or incident to the breach of contract. The party injured by such breach may bring suit for the breach and for such damages."

I took it as Kennedy Pola broke his contract which says that he must have written consent to be interviewed for a job or something. I don't think its worth the lawsuit, but w/e.

So, the Titans are going to say "Our new guy sucks. He's nowhere near as good as Pola. Give us money." Great idea.

No, they'll say that the actions they've stated and filed suit against, created the less than perfect situation they are in. No breech, no 1month to hire) situation. Thus, no "damages".

Not to defend Kiffin, but dont we live in a world where we dont have to honor contracts anymore? So whats the big deal? Fisher had it coming. He fired the previous RB coach for no reason. Ya know the guy that coached CJ to over 2,000 yards. Now hes getting a taste of his own medicine.

Um, Ernest Byner was demanding a bigger contract and the contract talks were getting nasty - even leading to arguments between Byner and other staff. That's why Byner was let go. As for "coaching CJ to 2,000 yards," that's a load of bull****. CJ and the OL got that. If Byner was so good, then why didn't he get jack from LenDale White and Chris Henry? kthnx.

The Titans are known to cut coaches and cut players with out even as much as a phone call. Just Ask Kyle Vandenbosch, Eddie George, and Keith B. And didnt Fisher fire his OC over the phone? Real classy. If you can get fired for no reason then you should be able to quit for any reason.

Kyle Vanden Bosch and Keith Bulluck? These guys were free agents. Their contracts had - wait for it - expired. As in no longer existed. You expecting Fisher to call them personally to remind them they're free agents and should sign with other teams? KVB signed with the Lions a day or two into FA for big money. Bulluck couldn't pass a physical until recently. I dunno what you were realistically expecting.

George's case is the only one you listed which you could even factor into cutting a player, but the reasoning behind that was age, durability, and price (George would've made $4.25 million his final year in Tennessee). Titans fans love Eddie George, but at the end of his career he couldn't stay healthy and the toll of a great career was showing when he was healthy. They asked him to take a pay cut or else they were going to cut him, and he agreed to get cut so he could sign with another team who would suit his contract terms. It was a process; not a sudden phone call to lay off the guy.

Norm Chow is the only one who said he was fired over the phone, but one instance doesn't set this trend you're trying to misrepresent with made up instances, some of which aren't even legitimate cuts but instead declining to re-sign free agents. But don't by any means let facts get in the way of your posts. Don't take my word for it. Apparently the random guys calling in to sports radio have indisputable credibility. :eek:k:

The salary issue is between Pola and the Oilers. It has nothing to do with Kiffin or USC. Again, they've already said they are promoting from within. Can't wait to see how much they say a walk down the hall put them out.

Why do you insist on being so obtuse on this issue? You obviously know better.

Basically what it comes down to is that someone was hired to fulfill a specialized duty and was contractually obligated to do so. When they violate that contract and leave shortly before that duty is to be fulfilled it causes damages. Those damages are not rendered null just because you find a random person by necessity to perform the duties at a lesser capability. In this case the timing is clearly a factor. The Titans were placed in a position where their only recourse was to perform a similar breach of contract(no team is going to grant permission this close to the season) or promote a less qualified person from within. Seeking damages for that is perfectly justified.

You also know damn well that they are not really after money or any other quantifiable damages as much as just setting a precedent so this sort of move doesn't happen again. I would wager the entire NFL is behind them in that endeavor. That they may get some cash from Kiffykins or Pola or USC only strengthens that deterrence factor.

Plus Bud probably got pissed off and decided to see if he could give the ole LaneTrain some more bad press to deal with while appeasing his own fanbase. It's going to be hilarious when Haden runs his ass off in a year or two just to restore some modicum of respectability to that proud program. The guy has talent as a coach and could have carved out a great career for himself, but the way he insists on doing business is going to get him in the end.

Of course the owner can overrule him and in the past Bud Adams was known as one of the crazy owners who got too involved in matters that he didn't have any business getting involved with.

Those days have long passed

The 3 times I can recall Adams stepping in are

-This past season when he forced Fisher to play VY
-In drafting VY over the objections of the HC and OC
-In 02 when the team started poorly and Adams publicly said the team was playing without heart

There might have been one or two more instances but I stand by the fact that the Titans are as close to a one-man organization these days as you'll find

Dude! get a clue! These were veterans that wanted to stay titans. Weither they were free agents or not. They all tried to get in contact with there team to talk a deal and they wouldnt call them or return phone calls. Not even a courtesy call just to say we are going in a different direction. Veterans!!!! The titans organization is not run very well. All you gotta do is see who our GB is and know that something is wrong. heres to another 8-8 season at best.
