Tennessee Titans sue Lane Kiffin

Titans did talk to KVB's agent some. He has no issue with the Titans since they saved his career from the scrap heap with the Cardinals. Bulluck is a 33-34 yr. old speed LB who is coming off reconstructive knee surgery and still isn't finished with rehab. Rarely has any player not been brought back that has gone on to a stellar career after leaving the Titans.

It is a business. Period. You are paid for present and future production, not past production.

As much as I'm a Jeff Fisher fan he hasn't won a playoff game since 03 and its been nearly 11 years since our Super Bowl run. Combine that with going 13-3 and being the #1 team in the AFC to starting 0-6 the following year and finishing 8-8 with what Fish called his "Best team" in recent history, this year is a make or break year for Fish.

He definitely is on the hot seat rather people want to agree with it or not, if we miss the playoffs I will not at all be surprised to see him fired or him resign to save face.

I disagree with this. He will be the Titans head coach until he chooses to leave. Bud Adams likes Fisher more than his own son.

Obviously, Kiffin acted with no class in the way he hired Pola. It's disappointing that the Titans are stooping to his level. Just let it go and move on.

Why do you insist on being so obtuse on this issue? You obviously know better.

Basically what it comes down to is that someone was hired to fulfill a specialized duty and was contractually obligated to do so. When they violate that contract and leave shortly before that duty is to be fulfilled it causes damages. Those damages are not rendered null just because you find a random person by necessity to perform the duties at a lesser capability. In this case the timing is clearly a factor. The Titans were placed in a position where their only recourse was to perform a similar breach of contract(no team is going to grant permission this close to the season) or promote a less qualified person from within. Seeking damages for that is perfectly justified.

You also know damn well that they are not really after money or any other quantifiable damages as much as just setting a precedent so this sort of move doesn't happen again. I would wager the entire NFL is behind them in that endeavor. That they may get some cash from Kiffykins or Pola or USC only strengthens that deterrence factor.

Plus Bud probably got pissed off and decided to see if he could give the ole LaneTrain some more bad press to deal with while appeasing his own fanbase. It's going to be hilarious when Haden runs his ass off in a year or two just to restore some modicum of respectability to that proud program. The guy has talent as a coach and could have carved out a great career for himself, but the way he insists on doing business is going to get him in the end.

I agree; I think this is more about setting precedent so that it doesn't happen in the future to other NFL teams

kiffin has truly screwed the pouch on any chance for a nfl job in the future. it would seem that his senile old man should have convinced him not to p.... off another nfl team. maybe he can coach hs after usc dumps him. i wouldnt want to be one of his assistant coaches.

there's also a big note in this thing saying "USC and Kiffin's acts violate Tenn. Code Ann. 47-50-109, which provides that:

It is unlawful for any person, by inducement, persuasion, misrepresentation, or other means, to induce or procure the breach or violation, refusal or failure to perform any lawful contract by any party thereto; and in every case where a breach or violation of such contract is so procured, the person so procuring or inducing the same shall be liable in treble the amount of damages resulting from or incident to the breach of contract. The party injured by such breach may bring suit for the breach and for such damages."

Kiffin contacted the coach, how is he going to know what is and is not in a contract? The coach then PROBABLY went into negotiations with USC. There is nothing Kiffin nor USC has done that obligates them to find out what is in a 3rd party contract.

On top of all that, there are no visible damages that I can see, but I haven't looked at the complaint nor the contract. In general, this appears to be a spilled coffee lawsuit.

Bad taste... maybe.... liability of damages by the coach, possible but probably not.... liability of damages caused by Kiffin/USC... doubtful, I just don't see it with the information given.

honestly I'm not saying whether anything's right or wrong here, I just seem to be the only one actually reading through the lawsuit.

I was just posting something from that pdf of the lawsuit

I know man, don't take my comments as an attack on you.... sorry if it came off that way.

The Titans look silly if you ask me. Lame-o will always look silly, no reason for the Titans to go down this path.

Well Kiffin has pissed off two of the thirty-two owners in the NFL. On the bright side it is the two most likely to be dead soon.

I have no idea how they are going to quantify loss. First, they fired a running backs coach who just had a 2,000 yard rusher. Exactly what are they going to say? Pola would have gotten him to 2,500 this year? Their best case would be for specific performance, i.e. Pola works for them, but that makes no sense under the circumstances.

What rusher would that be?

You ARE allowed to quit for any or no reason. But if you're bound under the terms of a contract, as Pola was, then you can't violate those to jump ship and then hide behind the "I quit" shield.

Why would he be hiding behind anything? He's not being sued, is he?

maybe this is Pola's dream job. I can't see why you Titans fans are so mad about a guy upgrading jobs

When i saw that our beloved Titans where sticking it to kiffin i couldint help but do a little dance. after what that guy has put our players and fans through he deserves alot worse but leave it to the "silver fox" Jeff fisher to send a little shot to kiffin and his scumbagg staff....I think this clip sums it up pretty good....

The vast majority of coaches have such clauses in their contracts. Less and less often does anyone adhere to the protocols. Nobody ever sues. Why? One, I can't wait to see the Titans try to quantify their damages. Further, nobody wants to look like a whiner.

All you do is ***** whine and complain day in and day out :eek:hmy:

Have no problem with Pola taking the job. He wasn't here long enough to know if he was any good or not. But the rumor that Kiffin was trying to come after him was enough that Pola came out and said he told the Titans he wasn't going any where and supposedly put it to rest. Then this happened and if they can prove that Kiffin knew about the written consent clause, then this is an open and shut case. The guy who runs the Titans, Steve Underwood, is a lawyer. He is the one bringing this case, not Fisher. I'm sure there is enough proof there otherwise they wouldn't bring it. Again, this is more for solidifying a precedent than anything else.

Which is why the Oilers are and will continue to be a second rate organization.

i mean can someone explain to me why homos who live in tn are cowboys fan? for that matter anyone who lives in tn who roots for other NFL teams? i mean they remind me of the people who live in knoxville and are gator or florida state fans....

too be hounest i wish us tennesseean's had just stayed in the holler and let old mexico kick sam houston's ass.... just think... no mack brown and the longhorns....no jerry jones and tony homo.....no geroge bush.....ahhhh what a wonderful world that would be...

if you're being hounest then there would be no Oilers either which means no Titans.
