Why does Barnes spend all his time injuring our players and scaring them, when he should be calling timeouts?

Failing to land a PG would be coaching malpractice. Gainey and JJJ do not address that need.

They don’t have a team, what’re you talking about? The point is that reaching out doesn’t mean actively recruiting, I wouldn’t exactly count Girard or McCollum as “misses” considering we didn’t push for either.

What 5-6 guys? To this point Ledlum has been mentioned as a priority and he’s scheduled to visit next weekend? Perry seems to be a priority and they’re trying to get him here next week as well? My guess is they’re working on a Knecht visit but I don’t know that for sure…they could’ve brought Glover in a visit already, would that have made you happy? I’m guessing not.

The fact that Glover hasn't visited tells me he's pretty far down the list. I hope we don't make it that far down on the list. The drop from Perry to Glover seems precipitous.

I actually kinda like Knecht, so I don't see him as a consolation prize. There is some risk there, for sure, but I like his upside and ability at all three levels.

I think they’ve targeted O&W weekend as their big weekend to try and bring in their top guys, that could backfire by guys coming off the board before then and also guys who maybe were plan b or c don’t wait and decide before we can circle back to them, we shall see. I don’t think they wanted to bring in Glover before others (Perry/Mills) because it’s likely he would’ve committed.

Somehow it escaped me that Perry has two years of eligibility left. I thought he was a one-year guy for some reason. He immediately becomes my #1 target in light of that. Having him and ZZ together for two years would he great. Vescovi(?)/Mashack/Edwards(?)/Dilione/Carr at the 2/3 would be a lot of talent.

Edit: Nevermind...I just saw where he did a two-year stint at Coffeyville CC. Only one year of eligibility.

Two players we were interested in had third rail issues with grades or personality that have been uncovered this week. We dropped off a high profile player that may not even be able to play next year. There are also two players who haven’t mentioned us who we are vetting/recruiting. Between vetting, total allowed OV’s and the lack of open slots, we are still going to be running everyone through a fine filter. Im sure that isn’t going to line up with VN dopamine cycle, but it is what it is. They love Perry and Onyenso, but each have “people” involved. Onyenso felt automatic pre tournament, but now it’s completely quiet. He’s a high ceiling kid, but that’s probably a bidding war now if we didn’t seal it already. Right now the only fully clean take I know of is Ledlum. Knecht seems to be very liked by staff. I’m not sure how you take either without taking a PG. McKnight and Mills were both hot for about 24 hours which usually means we were not willing to deal with people in the middle or there were issues, but don’t know that factually. While this is a roller coaster, I’ve heard good reasons for passes/misses. Get ready for a high chance of Gainey. They probably won’t say anything about avoiding scholly count, but they seem to have a plan if this happens.

I think they’re taking a PG, who that is remains to be seen but I don’t think they take Knecht in place of a PG…I know they’re really high on Perry (as should be), have yet to hear Onyenso’s name and don’t see how he could be added along with Ledlum.

Onyenso was recommended to staff via connection to Ryan Humphrey. Pre tournament I heard he was a heavy lean to come. Since he entered the portal, I haven’t heard of him taking a single visit. I assume that means a back door money deal is happening and he’ll land somewhere like Memphis or KU. Obviously signing Ledlum would mean we’re done with bigs.

Have my doubts about Knecht but I trust the staff there. Gainey would be amazing as a walk-on. I'm refusing to get my hopes up for Perry but I'll jump through the roof if it happens lol.

Knecht plays like a Kyle Guy clone. Also can get to the rim and pull up from 3 at any second with a hand in his face. We have noone that can do that that ive seen play so far. ZZ tries to but his height doesn't allow many shots to get off clean. A bucket getter is a bucket getter & we need all we can get esp if Santi leaves🤷‍♂️ heck even with Santi we need all we can get

Wow, I leave this thread for like 24 hours and it’s in complete meltdown mode lol. I mean I hate waiting as much as the next guy, but I figure we have to hear something pretty soon. Big names are starting to come off the board, we’ll have a clearer picture by next weekend I think.

As you know they’ll only bring in an OV if they’re willing to take them, the fact they quickly moved on Ledlum and saw him after FAU loss and got a visit on the books tells me Onyenso situation died off. As you said probably started getting shipped around and we bowed out.

That’s fair, completely slipped my mind the fact that they would essentially be a trade. I would absolutely make the offensive trade though, as basically everyone else on that roster getting meaningful minutes, Perry included, is capable of defending at a high level.

Agreed. I am completely okay with sacrificing some defense to bring in offense. We’ll have plenty of good defenders. We very clearly need some scoring threats on this team.
