Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

That’s fair, completely slipped my mind the fact that they would essentially be a trade. I would absolutely make the offensive trade though, as basically everyone else on that roster getting meaningful minutes, Perry included, is capable of defending at a high level.
For sure, Perry is a very good defender.

our offense is inept to score the ball for 4-5 minute stretches of every game even when we had Kennedy. Who cares about defense anymore... defense doesn't win championships anymore.
The two teams that just played for the national title had the number 4 and 7 rated defenses in the nation. One of them had a worse offense than we did. I agree, we need a better offense to go deeper in March, but you sure ain’t getting there without a good defense too.

I actually liked the Powell get. He was just scared shitless playing for Barnes. Not a good fit but I think a decent player.
I agree. I wish Barnes would lighten up a bit. You can be a hard coach and still be a little looser with your players. Every little floor mistake earns you a spot on the bench. No player is going to be perfect every play.

Please don’t use facts

The kid can play. And will play at the next level.
Okay that's good I hope so don't want a repeat of a Tyreke Key or Justin Powell or Anioske or the guy that transfered to George Mason seems to be a trend with Tennessee and portal and transfer guys

Genuine question - do some of y’all watch teams other than Tennessee play? Guys like Oats, Muss, Hurley, Howard, etc that are considered “player’s coaches” or are younger, all chew ass worse than Barnes and will bench their guys just as quick. Barnes is not the evil overlord that so many on here portray him to be.

This just isn’t true. He has a great relationship with his players. And he benches players as much for not being aggressive offensively or not taking open shots as he does for any defensive mistakes. Lack of effort will get you benched as it should….. but not just making a mistake.

I never said he didnt have a good relationship with his players. But if you make a bad pass. Or you get lost one trip on defense. Your riding the pine. Players need to know one mistake isnt putting you back on the bench. Thats why players under Pearl played looser. And no i dont want him back. Barnes is more like a Bobby Knight type coach. My friends and i used to watch Indiana and we used to make jokes about their players. Soon as something happened we knew they were heading to the bench. Barnes is just about as bad. I think our players play to tight because of it. And i think thats what lead to scoring droughts. How many times did we see players passing up shots and then forcing last second shot clock forces. I think at times players were afraid to take an open bad shot just because they didnt want to sit. And that lead to players not sure if an open shot was a good shot or a bad shot. Being timid isnt the same as being scared either. And i think our guys played timid at times.

Im sure they do. But they arent Tennessee's coach. Therefore it isnt important. And its not about being an evil overlord. But it does contribute to how loose a player will play.

We will never not be top 20 in defense with Barnes. What I’m saying is we won’t make an elite 8 if we don’t have a legit scorer when we need a bucket.

Theres no guarantee there. But he is more athletic and taller than Key and that could be the difference.

This just isn’t true. Again…. He has benched players for NOT taking a shot. Believe what you want. I’m not going to argue but your comments are not accurate and you can ask any player or coach within the program - none will agree with what you just wrote. We go on scoring droughts because of our personnel and not having guys that can get buckets on their own as much as anything else.

I think my biggest concern is us just waiting too long to make our decisions on who we want most and our top targets going elsewhere. I know we want to bring people in for O&W weekend next weekend, but hopefully our targets aren’t off the board by then.
