The $1 year sub has cluttered that board…not saying it couldn’t be true but in the last week there was a poster claiming Harrison Ingram was coming here, another poster claiming McKnight was coming here and another poster claiming Glover was about to be a Vol. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah I saw all of those. I hope this is another case of someone blowing smoke and not actually in the know.

Barnes‘ rep is defense but can coach good offense. The 2019 squad has one of the top 10 most efficient offensive ratings in the last 5 years. It was a well built team with experience. The last 2 years were actually more productive than the two previous because we had better PGs. But inconsistent perimeter shooting, inconsistent post offense and lack of dribble penetration (except Chandler) has been obvious over the last 4 years. Injuries haven’t helped but I don’t think that has been primary issue.

In my opinion he just needs to recruit differently (including athletes who have the mindset to be courageous on the offensive end and don’t shy away from taking a big shot). Too many of our squad this year would pucker up when it mattered offensively. I knew someone who was an assistant coach at major Division 1 level years ago and remember asking him a question. Would you rather recruit a guy who could score or defend? He told me he would rather recruit a scorer and teach him how to defend. Often young players don’t play hard on defensive end and rarely are taught how to defend well in high school. You can encourage effort when competition for playing time at collegiate level is high. More difficult to teach someone how to score IMO.

I like the 2023 class on paper (consider Dilione part of that group). Time will tell. 3 of the 4 seem to come with offensive skills and Phillips is just a hard working BF athlete who probably will become a fan favorite.
2022 class will depend on if Phillips returns and his development. It had 0 shooters. Our best player out of the class may very well be Awaka.
2021 class got 1/2 of them right. A little known short 3 star PG is going to contribute more to the program than all of them.
2020 class had 2 one year rentals (Springer/Johnson) and that’s it. Had some highlights but didn’t help the program IMO.
2019 class was decent but had limits. Who would have expected a little known 3 star from Uruguay would be our most impactful recruit from that class?
Both 2017 and 2018 classes were disasters.
2016 class was a program changer with four 3 stars who elevated UT along with a few guys from previous 2015 class (Scofield, Alexander and Turner). We could have used a guy like Turner for this years team. He was a solid college combo guard who was pretty clutch and always was aggressive when it mattered. He was willing to take big shots and hit crucial FTs.

“A reliable source tells me that a key Tennessee player will transfer, but I hesitate to say the name bc I haven't received confirmation from the player.”

Yep. They sit players down sometimes to PREVENT them from having their confidence shattered when they are totally lost. It’s really kind of silly when people suggest that the coaches are mad and yank out players to punish them. They’re always trying to give the proper kind of reinforcement for the behaviors exhibited by the players.

Well if that’s the case I can’t see CRB changing his (suspected) philosophy on NIL given the ROI from Phillips.

- that’s you crying over whatever you’re crying about, it’s easy to put someone on ignore.

Man it’s April 8th and you’re here crying every time anyone commits anywhere regardless of whether UT’s interest has been confirmed or not and my take is based on your insistent crying, not that post alone. But I’ll take your advice on the latter part.

If we lose anyone else (non-seniors) to the portal, of the guys we are targeting I would be very happy with Perry, Ledlum, and Knecht. Perry and ZZ could play together at times and perhaps that would encourage Barnes to push pace more often. Ledlum is undersized 4, but is efficient in 2Pt FG% and it isn’t as if we haven’t had success with undersized 4 before. He can flex to play the 3 as well. Knecht is the most intriguing. I get it, the level of competition is different, but he plays at a nice tempo, on film shows ability to put ball on deck with either hand and get to the rim, has a little floater in lane, has pretty quick release, and looks to be able to score at all 3 levels. That’s rare in any league.

All 3 are potential double digit scorers in the SEC. I would take that in a heartbeat. We won’t be as big next year but I expect our rebounding will improve (and it was good this year) regardless because Awaka is going to get a lot more minutes and his presence alone on the floor = more boards.

If Phillips doesn't want to be here then why do so many care. He can't shoot and he is the typical overrated 5 star. There were only a couple 5 star freshman that were game changers. Not one of them came close to a Final Four this year.

If JP does transfer and we strike out on all the portal targets… I won’t blame the sky is falling crowd in here. That said, hard to see us knowing a certainty on JP soon with the NBA process and we won’t know on all these transfers for another week or so. Give it time. I trust the staff enough to give them some time to get this sorted. If the sky is in fact falling, we have all offseason to be miserable about it. No need to not spend the coming days hopeful about the future.
